I think epsxe or psx1.13 are the best.
Single segment means no loading from a save, one single sitting. RTA means one single sitting but you can die and load saves and such.
The newer route is in the guides section here :
https://www.speedrun.com/thousand_arms/guide/0vqgi
It's a really fun game and I did a ton of work and research to make the route work. Hope you enjoy it and if you have any questions feel free to reach out!
And I can make an option for segmented runs if you don't plan to do the run in a single segment.
The Japanese version was found to be significantly faster due to the enemies in the game having 50% reduced hp. That note you mentioned was corrected in the current, updated notes.
Categories can be made if emulator runs become something people want to do, for sure. Emulator saves a LOT of time over hardware so it would definitely need to be split.
The currently active bounty is only for glitches, unfortunately.
Apparently the Western version of the game has immense difficulty compared to the Japanese release and fans made a patch that solves that? Before I commit to learning, I just wanted to make sure that wasn't the version being run or anything.
Second, I was curious if multiple routes/categories would be possible utilizing the different main characters? I see the run is done with Lux but if testing hadn't been done for others I'd love to contribute.
Lately, are there any notes for the run? If there are glitches or anything that I might not understand just from watching the vods I felt it'd be wise of me to ask.
Thanks!
Yeah there's about a minute and some change that can be saved on the Wii u version
Yeah I tested it for a few hours myself on the Catz version.
Considering taking an emu on the PS2 version and seeing if I can just mod warp myself to the other side of the rock. It would let us know if it's even worth testing if stuff loads correctly or if it softlock or whatever.
I'd love to split the leaderboards if we had enough runners in all the categories to not starve the categories of names. We just don't have the structure currently, unfortunately. I would love to run the game on the other platforms.
Unfortunately it's not that black and white.
PSP/TV saves, in a perfect vacuum, maybe 1:30-2 minutes in loads. The difference of PS2 90k vs the low end 30k is more than that. Where do you draw the line? You want every version of the PS2 to have it's own category?
The runners using PS2/PS3/etc runs aren't at a point where the only difference between them and the better consoles are the leaderboards is strictly PSP timesave.
Of course, then the discussion, that if you care enough about being competitive do you really want a PS2 category so that you can be second place in a category that's slower than the best way to play the game? WR on a PS3 would still be like the 10th fastest person to run Parasite Eve.
It is, as I said, unfortunately not that simple and the game isn't big enough/run enough on multiple consoles to really benefit much from a split.
So far we know little about all of the changes that have been made in the new releases of the game. However, as it currently stands, a few big differences are obvious.
-
The duplication glitch. The new versions of the game (including the switch port) have all had the duplication glitch patched. This makes the run exponentially more difficult and more RNG dependent.
-
Frame rate and load times. It goes without saying that the 60fps frame rate boasted by the PC and PS4 makes things a bit faster. Load times are dramatically reduced and menu lag is non-existent.
-
The text effect glitches are still intact. Familiar retreat glitch, jump menu buffering, levitate skipping, and gateway skipping are all still viable afaik. This is significant.
So far, in my opinion at first glance, the PS3 remains king for the fastest way to beat Ni No Kuni. The duplication glitch makes the run significantly faster due to large amounts of disposable money and restoratives. This gives us the ability to craft chocolates for Royal Jelly, buy upgraded weapons and armor for familiars to speed up fights, and obviously removes the RNG time loss risk of the casino.
I am currently in the process of refining a casino centric route for the remastered versions of the game. Even if a solid route is put together I have a very hard time seeing the new versions being faster than the PS3. Even with load time improvement the loss of our center point glitch is very impactful.
Current consoles from fastest to slowest are : PS3, PC, PS4, Switch.
I will make changes if anything comes up.
Considering picking up the game? It's an absolute hoot!
ayyy, my man! I have about 15 Kiwamis so I'm all aboard the turbo hype train.
Thanks a ton my guy. I really appreciate ya!
I don't casual games before I play them so I plan on making blind/beginner friendly notes for the run. I'll post them to the guides when I'm done.
First, though, I was curious if anyone had any notes for the run already. They don't have to be super detailed or anything, just could save some time trying to understand tech or mechanics that might otherwise be kind of hard to understand simply by watching.
Second, I have the original cart as well as a flashcart with the 2.0 fan translation on it. Is there a noticeable difference in text amount and timesave? I assume japanese is faster but it's always nicer when you can play in english, lol.
Lastly, are there any rules against specific emulators? I use BSNES via Bizhawk for learning/practicing so I can use save states. I see that emu is allowed but wasn't sure if there was one that is more accurate or agreed upon in the community.
Thanks for your time!

Requesting mod again for "Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles The Crystal Bearers"
https://www.speedrun.com/ffcctcb
@Daravae reached out to the mod on Twitter a few days ago (Like I had previously) and I don't believe has received a response. He's the only mod and he retired from speedrunning/streaming years back. I'm the only active community member (1 of 3 people lol) and want to add categories and be able to approve runs in an attempt to get the community to grow.
Thanks.
@Daravae I appreciate that. I don't think he's doing it maliciously or anything... He responded to me once a week or two ago but not to any of my future comments. I know he doesn't stream or speed run anymore so he could just be disinterested in talking about it. He's a cool guy nothing against him, just probably missed it.

The current and only mod has been inactive for a lengthy period of time and has not responded to my reaching out via social media. I have runs waiting to be approved and a board that could benefit from an active mod.
