Please update the Discord link in the sidebar :D Also, anyone interested in running mobile games, feel free to join the Mobile Speedrunning Discord at this link: https://discord.gg/bpY8zeB
Cheers!
Bakbik, do consider joining the Mobile Speedrunning Discord! You have been asking a lot of forum questions, which is great, and I think you could get answers faster in our community! https://discord.gg/bpY8zeB
There is no major difference between these games. They have a few things that are different, like characters and items, and the worlds are different, but that's about it.
The only thing the new category would add to the current All Worlds - 100% run is death count, and since deaths add time to runs anyway, I don't see the point in adding a new category for that.
Bakbik, I definitely encourage you to do a run of All Worlds - 100%! Check out the current rules listed there, too :D
Hey Bakbik! This category exists already -- check out the All Worlds, 100% runs!
I'm not saying we should ban it, I think we should make a new category for it. Because there are some players who probably want to get to the end of the level without using ads.
Also, it adds time to your run. If you took the real-time value of your 8 minute run, it comes to 12 minutes because of ads and checkpoint time.
Hey!
It seems like using ads for power-ups and checkpoints gives an unfair advantage since we've transitioned to using in-game timer.
I'm thinking of creating a new subcategory to account for this. Thoughts?
Guide archiving and organizing would be a useful feature.
Take a look here, for instance: https://www.speedrun.com/smb1/guides
- I'm sure not all of these guides are modern and archiving the obsolete ones would be helpful for new players.
- Sorting of guides is currently alphabetical. It would be much better to organize by date updated.
- Categorizing guides might also be useful. Allowing mods to make guide categories would be nice.
SMB1 is just an example. This would be useful srcom-wide.
Leeroy95, the best place to ask about specific mobile games is in the Mobile Speedrunning Discord! Most mobile game mods are there and can answer your questions :) https://discord.gg/bpY8zeB
Hey BBRS! I'll send you a message on Discord and see if we can find a solution :)
Hey Bakbik! Absolutely! Just be sure to mark your run as an emulator run. Also be sure to include game audio :)
Under -social- in Edit Profile, it would be very nice to have a space for an optional comment.
I went on a trip for all of July and instead of displaying my Discord username on my profile, I wrote the message: "Hey all, I'll be out of town until July 25th and will not have much time to moderate. Please be patient!"
Hovering over the Discord icon on my profile showed that message.
I think it would be simple to implement this custom message system by adding an icon shaped like a notepad or speech bubble. It would be useful for all moderators and could be a mod-only feature if there's a worry about abusing it. However, I don't see it being abused more than it being helpful.
Edit November 2021: Thanks to the site staff for adding the ability to have a bio on your profile!
Hey @nyoshi! Thanks for submitting a run :) On speedrun.com, it is normal for it to take up to 2 weeks for a moderator to verify your run. The mods all have lives outside of speedrunning, and this is something we do in our free time. Please be patient -- it will be verified soon.
For better communication with mods and the Cat Bird runners, I recommend you join the Cat Bird Discord located in the sidebar. We'd love to have you!
Edit: I noticed you use a timer in your runs. Timer is not required for runs, as we use https://github.com/Slush0Puppy/retime to retime -- so you can leave it out if you'd like! For full world runs, you should use the in game timer.
https://mattbraddock.com/yt-frame-timer/ is actually based on https://github.com/Slush0Puppy/retime, which works very well!
While working on the new WR graph, please consider implementing any of these feature requests from two years ago:
https://www.speedrun.com/post/0b8zc https://www.speedrun.com/post/didpg https://www.speedrun.com/post/7xwjd
Summary:
- Click a run on the graph to be taken to it
- Toggle all categories on/off on the graph
- Handle issue of multiple WRs per day
Please join the Mobile Speedrunning Discord, we have all the resources you need and would love to know what games you want to run! https://discord.gg/bpY8zeB
My personal favorite is Game Screen Recorder. Super lightweight and fast recording with external audio.
