You don't necessarily need to have a run on the leaderboard to be a member of this community. You can try to find new glitches or tricks that can save time or just generally help others. Or you can make a practice ROM for SML (if one's never been mae yet). But there's probably tutorials in the guides section that'll help you learn the game in a speedrunning format.
If I understand you correctly (Mario walked through the pipe), then I'm pretty sure you'd lose time since (iirc) you'd have to press left in order to clip into the pipe.
Pretty sure emulator doesn't have lag. Maybe I'm just thinking of VC since that doesn't have lag, I know N64 has lag but I'm 85% sure emulator has no lag. Maybe it doesn't but I think it does.
Those despawn are due to the game having a large number of sprites on screen. I believe the max sprites that the game can load on-screen is 6 (I may be wrong). Since killing that koopa despawns the goomba because when you kill the koopa it's shell stays on-screen, so since the game doesn't want to get to get overloaded by all the sprites, it removes one of the goombas. I don't know why the third koopa despawns though. I'd assume it's because you didn't kill any goombas so the third goomba before the koopas was on-screen longer. But I'm not too sure. 🤔
Hey guys. I know that we're not active as a community much but I decided to create a discord server for our community. https://discord.gg/2ZWxfwR
You will also be able to find this on the sidebar to the left.
Hey guys, I was looking through my discord servers and found this server that I made for our community, so here it is if you want to join: https://discord.gg/dw6bzws
I personally don't see a point in creating a server just for one category. :/
There is an "unofflicial" discord server where you can suggest categories that mods won't accept which @eddiecatgaming created. https://www.speedrun.com/smbce/thread/tiu18/1#8e3bs
Unfortunately, Powerpak does not support savestates for FDS games. Only NES, the original Everdrive has this same flaw. The only flashcart I know of that allows you to use savestates on FDS games is the Everdrive Pro, which (iirc) was just recently released. :(
FYI you can edit a post by clicking on the triple-dot icon in the top right corner, then click "edit post" (or something like that), then edit the post to fix your mispellings. That way you don't have to create 2 short posts. :)
There's two things that I can think of:
- Framerate:
The framerate is slightly lower on the NES Classic than on the NES, so your times will automatically be slower when using the NES Classic.
- Input Lag:
Since the NES Classic has an hdmi input (iirc), playing retro games like smb1 on a hd tv results in input lag. I'm not exactly sure why. Input lag means the amount of delay there is between you pressing a button on the controller and the character moving on the tv. BUT, for players that have only played on hd tvs won't notice anything until playing on a crt.
For a beginner, there's three things you could really do without going for sub 5.
-
There's powerups in the top bricks for the first 2 groups of hammer bros, you can grab those and send it through the level, hoping you don't get hit.
-
When the hammer bro jumps, run under him, you'll need fast reflexes since determining when the hammer bro is gonna jump won't be easy.
-
Put the koopa troopa in it's shell and kick it to the hammer bros. However most of the time the shell will go right through the first hammer bro and not kill him.
A ROM hack isn't an extension, and anyone can submit ROM hacks, not just moderators of the game that the hack is based on.
IMO it should be Andrew's 4:59 back in 2010 because it's both a big milestone in smb1 speedrunning and it broke the 5m barrier. And might be the last "minute-barrier-breaker" (:P sorry for the bad name) for smb1 any%.
I'm pretty sure the framerate is the same from the NES to the emulator.
Boink, Bonk, Bounce, Boing (I'm pretty sure).
It's a setup that @xeroxfiend found which (most of the time) manipulates the paratroopa's position to be at medium height towards the end of 8-2. I don't know (specifically) what you need to do to manipulate the paratroopa's postion, that's just all I know.
Hey guys, I have finished working on a project that I wanted to share with the community, these are icons that can be used for your timer when speedrunning All-Stars. I didn't feel like this belonged as a resource, so I put them as a forum post. Since there are too many files to be put in one GitHub repository, I divided the files into two repositories. SMB1&SMB2J, then SMB2U&SMB3. Here are the links/downloads:
SMB1+2J: https://github.com/AnnomytorMars/Super-Mario-All-Stars-Timer-Icons--SMB1-2J-
SMB2U+3: https://github.com/AnnomytorMars/Super-Mario-All-Stars-Timer-Icons-SMB2U-SMB3-
Icons may not look transparent at first sight, but when clicking on the image the background will go away. If you see any flaws with these icons then please message me on discord or twitch.
Have a nice day folks! :)
