Dear SpeedChefs,

since there is now a bit more of competition for certain categories including DLCs, I realized the retiming was done a bit too sloppy in the past using slightly different points to start/stop the timer, which i wanna change so it's a fair environment for everyone.

For 1P runs:

  • Timer starts when you pick a new or existing savefile to overwrite
  • Full Game runs: Timer stops when you hand in the last dish to the Ever Peckish (OC1) or to the counter in 6-6 (OC2)
  • DLC runs: Timer stops at the frame when the transition screen to the scoreboard of the last level happens. If its AllStars%, ofc only if you got all the stars.

For 2P/3P/4P runs:

  • Timer starts when the last player of the group has picked his savefile. This can be seen when the bottom right hopping burger/pizza icon appears on screen, leading to the overworld/opening cutscene to be loaded.

So if you got some notifications that your runs have been verified again, it's because of this.

This will need a bit time, so I'll try to do what I can over the upcoming Easter days, but please be patient. <3

A new category has been created: New Game+ or short NG+

it's like any%, but any available weapons are allowed. Use the password SYMRGOBRRL to unlock all special weapons.

What's cooking everybody ? :)

After toasterparty released the official mod for Overcooked 2 (check it out here) which allows for all kinds of shenanigans including quick passing levels on reaching specific scores, randomizing stage orders etc., it's a great way to newly discover the game for speedrunning, since we now don't just have to sit around for a long time per level until the timer runs out which adds a great level of competition.

I have added the "Game State" variable which reflects "Unmodded" and "Modded" versions of the game. All existing runs have been obviously moved to "Unmodded".

If you want to run the modded version, feel free to try it out, but be sure to read the rules since i might need to still update them a little bit more. For now, no mods are allowed except the AutoComplete feature which let you end levels faster the faster you gain the required 3-Star score. I might add other stuff as possible categories as well like the randomizer, but that will need a bit more prep time.

If you got ideas for improvement or find some erratic stuff in the rules, on the categories or submission screens, please let me know and i'll fix it asap. I never reworked that much in a single game on SRC before. :D

Also, if you want to use the load remover made by Nikoheart (check it out here), feel free to use it in runs, but for now i'll still use the RTA times until I implemented the additional time column on the boards. I'll make another announcement when I'm done with it.

Keep cooking !

Hi dearest chefs !

Migration of the AYCE parts from the Overcooked! 2 leaderboards has been completed. Please report to me if you're missing a run from the old board. I triple checked that I didn't miss out on one ;)

From now on this is the place to submit your AYCE runs.

Keep Cooking everyone !

Hello dear speedrun chefs !

Ever since the All You Can Eat (or short: AYCE) version of Overcooked released in 2020, it was never properly added to SRC, just as a sidekick in Overcooked 2, which makes little sense since it also provides content from Overcooked 1 as well as exclusive side campaigns.

I want to properly separate these games now so we have all content thoroughly directed towards the places where they belong.

This will take a bit of time since I first have to request the new game being added, then i gotta migrate all the AYCE stuff from OC2 over including settings, runs, categories, etc.

For you there will be no changes for now. You can continue submitting runs for all existing categories of OC2 and AYCE here, they will all be moved to the correct locations once it happens. I will make another announcement when it's done.

Keep cooking greatness and have a great day !

Yo fellow cooks !

Because it was specially requested, I've added categories for the "Night of the Hangry Horde" DLC, either any% without Horde levels, or just all Horde levels without any fixed timers in the stages.

If there is demand to add more, feel free to request it here and i'll consider adding it.

Just found a glitch in the final level that will speed up things for runs.

In Phase 2 (Burgers) there are two conveyor belts. Just place a cut / cooked ingredient on the end of either of the belts, then pick it up with anything but your hands and you will pick it up while it also stays on the belt (so you dupe it).

Works with cut uncooked meat, cut salad and tomatoes.

E.g. put cut meat there, then pick it up with an empty pan and it'll dupe.

E.g. put a cut tomato there, then pick it up three times with an empty pot and it will instantly fill with three tomatoes.

Gonna investigate if this works in other levels with conveyor belts as well.

[can only speak that it works on the PC version]

Hey there,

I was thinking about finally routing the New Game category for this. The question i have is, are those slime weapons you receive after Arba I allowed to use ? AFAIK, they are gifts exclusively to those who purchased the Slime Edition of the game, or am I wrong ?

So are those weapons allowed in a New Game category or not ?

Howdy,

since a number of runs with sped up gameplay have been submitted lately - which i believe is due to emulator issues, here is the link to the Discord for Flashplayer Infinity: https://discord.gg/JQy7XHY28h

Hey there, since somebody asked me, I'll share all the infos about the speedrun i still have that I used to learn the run myself. It's been quite a while ago and it's just a bunch of Screenshots of the playfields with little annotations which monsters there are, but it's all I have for now.

Sadly I don't have the time right now to create a real guide but hopefully these screenshots come in handy anyways.

I'll provide the download link of the zip with the images in the guide section.

Hey everyone,

was just wondering what you think about creating a category that focuses on another aspect of the game: point hunting instead of "credits roll". Might be interesting to find optimal strats imo (?).

Best regards.

Cheers everybody,

so I just finished my first proper Any% run, which should be ready for submission tomorrow. I timed a few things to elaborate timesaves for the Any% category and this is what I've found:

(1) Obviously, taking the optimal route from stage to stage with the overworld bus, spamming that dash button and avoiding obstacles like those mountains at the bottom.

(2) Obviously, the final boss which is the only skill based level (apart from being required getting at least 1 star in each). The meteor RNG is a big thing, but nonetheless since theres no order RNG it's all about planning and reaction.

(3) Skipping hut dialogs. You don't ever need to talk to the onion man. Just enter the houses, dash once to the left, press A to leave and the next level spawns.

(4) Skipping stars. I timed that it is a tiny bit faster to not get all 3 stars in a stage since it makes skipping the score screen (by pressing A) available about 1 second earlier if you just get 1 star instead of 3. You need 74/87 stars for the final stage to spawn so you have room for 13 stars to miss which could therefore grant about 6,5 seconds of timesave over the entire run.

(5) Do a playthrough before the run. If you played on a "fresh" system, you constantly unlock new chefs and unlock new stages which wastes time.

(6) Be prepared for the alert windows. There are only two. One in the turorial which says "Press (?) to switch chefs" and one in 1-1 which says "wash dirty plates" which stop the time. Make them vanish asap.

(7) Running on PC. The current WR holder for solo any%, Prankhan, played it on PS4, while I played it on PC on an SSD drive which makes it uncomparable due to load times. Just compared stage 4-4 and the load time was 2.5 seconds for me while it was full 8 seconds for him. So not considering potential differences in stages, just extrapolating that would be 30 * 5,5seconds = 2:45min. No idea about XboxOne or Switch loads.

Anybody knows how to run DD2 in pSX 1.13 emulator ? Is there a way to tell it to use the cue file like mednafen does ? Simply loading track01.bin disables all music and stuff since it doesn't recognize the 19 other .bin files.

Greetings !

I discovered a problem recently with the Stock Car - All Races category which will need a change in the rulings which I believe is the best solution to everyone. The problem is as follows:

While reviewing the run by josef733, it turned out he got some DNF ("did not finish") flags on his driver stats even though he crossed every finish line in the races before retiring from menu.

After some emu testing, I found that this is caused by retiring BEFORE waiting for the black-white flag with the "Race Over" text to appear, not caring about the finish line being crossed or not. So technically it seemed that the game had not recognized these races as being finished and thus invalidated the run.

However the game still recognized the races as "complete", because retiring early usually gives you a rank penalty, but here the full points for the current rank while crossing the finish line have been granted. So I consider this an ingame bug that it gives you DNF flags without any retiring penalties and it should not be used as an indicator when to call a run "finished".

The ruleset has now been changed so that you have to cross the finish line before retiring from the menu instead of waiting for the "Race Over" flag to appear.

Also please note that you stop the timer on the "WINNER" screen, not on crossing the finish line on Ultimate Destruction Speedway.

Greetings.

I was about to do another run of the NG+ PC category. But before my practice run I forgot to duplicate the NG+ ready file and just used it up, so now I have no file where I can technically start a NG+ from without playing through the entire thing again.

I just have a file with 0:00:00 playtime that starts the opening cutscene on select. The only difference is that the settings (main char selection etc.) is being skipped which isn't part of the run anyways. I wonder if this would that be good enough to start the run from ?

Thanks in advance.

Greetings, I have added "Broken Sword 4: The Angel of Death" to this site and would like to have it added to the series.

GermanyLudwigVonKoopa5 years ago

I knew this problem would occur sooner or later. I guess I delayed it to be a little too "later".

I was wondering if there's a way to merge the two platforms into each other.. speaking of Crime War.. just ignoring everything outside the levels wouldn't be fair since weapon selection should be timed. Removing the time for every "loading" screen ?

GermanyLudwigVonKoopa5 years ago

As you probably know, the game can't load level 28 and softlocks because it cannot place 82 viruses in the stage. I thought it might be interesting to get there asap, starting from Level 20. Unfortunately there's a lot of RNG involved, especially in the levels 24-26. Sometimes the layout won't allow you to break the top virus row.

What do you think about it ?

GermanyLudwigVonKoopa6 years ago

I just changed the rule for stopping the timer on any% or 100% runs. Rather than stopping after fading away the "reward screen on Hispania 4" you should just stop the timer at the final hit on the bull since that is the last real ingame input.

The last two submitted runs have been retimed for that purpose.

As I'm developing my time further, I now start to stumble over certain mechanics that I once used to treat like "when I get it, cool, if not, whatever" but that can ruin my run now timewise. And the most frequent cause would be the wall kicks.

I practiced them quite a while now and can somehow use it in runs, but the outcome of needing 1 to 3 kicks in stage 1-4 to get up or needing 10 to 15 kicks is pretty much random for me.

I wonder if there is a strategy for them to maximise the odds of getting the kick to work. I tried mashing A or just tapping it at certain times within the jump, but I can not figure out a pattern to follow. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.

I also guess some wall kicks are way harder than others. 1-4 I'd would rate pretty hard while the double jump wall kick in 2-7 seems to occur way more often to me. Is it dependant on the terrain or the ledge you try to get on with the kick ?

E.g. I find that getting up 2-7 is way easier than getting up 7-2 while they kinda share the same conditions, it's only a jump off the screen edge.

Maybe you could enlighten me on that topic. Thanks in advance :)
