It's a good idea. I set up the level categories so it's open for submissions. Be sure to submit it on the "Destruction Derby - Total Destruction" category.
Yeah do it. This guy is a passionate Overcooked expert
It's the only fair way to use time without loads imho. Extrapolating from my comparisons, PS4 loses about 2:45min to PC (w/ SSD drive).
Cheers everybody,
so I just finished my first proper Any% run, which should be ready for submission tomorrow. I timed a few things to elaborate timesaves for the Any% category and this is what I've found:
(1) Obviously, taking the optimal route from stage to stage with the overworld bus, spamming that dash button and avoiding obstacles like those mountains at the bottom.
(2) Obviously, the final boss which is the only skill based level (apart from being required getting at least 1 star in each). The meteor RNG is a big thing, but nonetheless since theres no order RNG it's all about planning and reaction.
(3) Skipping hut dialogs. You don't ever need to talk to the onion man. Just enter the houses, dash once to the left, press A to leave and the next level spawns.
(4) Skipping stars. I timed that it is a tiny bit faster to not get all 3 stars in a stage since it makes skipping the score screen (by pressing A) available about 1 second earlier if you just get 1 star instead of 3. You need 74/87 stars for the final stage to spawn so you have room for 13 stars to miss which could therefore grant about 6,5 seconds of timesave over the entire run.
(5) Do a playthrough before the run. If you played on a "fresh" system, you constantly unlock new chefs and unlock new stages which wastes time.
(6) Be prepared for the alert windows. There are only two. One in the turorial which says "Press (?) to switch chefs" and one in 1-1 which says "wash dirty plates" which stop the time. Make them vanish asap.
(7) Running on PC. The current WR holder for solo any%, Prankhan, played it on PS4, while I played it on PC on an SSD drive which makes it uncomparable due to load times. Just compared stage 4-4 and the load time was 2.5 seconds for me while it was full 8 seconds for him. So not considering potential differences in stages, just extrapolating that would be 30 * 5,5seconds = 2:45min. No idea about XboxOne or Switch loads.
Anybody knows how to run DD2 in pSX 1.13 emulator ? Is there a way to tell it to use the cue file like mednafen does ? Simply loading track01.bin disables all music and stuff since it doesn't recognize the 19 other .bin files.
But just from watching, it seems you got 3x50 points and 1x10 points on enemies crashing at the first curve that occur way after you touched them. Could be worth trying it on Div2 Pine Hills as well maybe. The crash potential is probably way higher on Black Sail though.
That glitch is pretty odd, will try to reproduce it next time I pick up the game. There is no reason not to abuse glitches in speedruns unless it's glitchless specifically. :P
Very nice WR indeed, especially with the Pro car. I thought Pro would be worse than Rookie in Wrecking because of the awful grip which turns and flips you over on every contact. But apparently it's not that bad.
With new strats, sub10 has been breached for PSX. So PC would easily sub 9 now I believe. But I can't get that crappy program to work on Win10. Too lazy to setup a VM :P
I'd love to switch over to real hardware too, but PAL just blows.. need to get NTSC hardware then.
so confirmed PS1 speedrunning is a hardware mess. Console vs emulator, PS1 vs PS2, PS2 vs PS2 Slim. Great :D . And mednafen is on the slow train, as well as several ePSX versions.
There was no option other than PS1 in the submission form. Other platforms are now available and assuming I got that right, I changed thebpg13s current run to PS2.
I think it might be this https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=546&v=oV6XrTtBNC4
Even though it's called "Stock Car - All Races", the main goal of this run is still to win the championship with an additional condition to finish all races. So for a ruleset that is valid for every run in this category, we need to find a spot that marks the definite end of the run.
Fair enough, if you didn't press any buttons after crossing the finish line in UDS and you had enough points, you'll see the winner screen. But if you didn't have enough points, you won't and the run isn't over since you're able to restart division 1. If you reset at this point, it's your choice. But the ruleset must be valid regardless of this choice.
For that reason, the earliest part in the run where we can definitely put a cut is the winner screen.
Greetings !
I discovered a problem recently with the Stock Car - All Races category which will need a change in the rulings which I believe is the best solution to everyone. The problem is as follows:
While reviewing the run by josef733, it turned out he got some DNF ("did not finish") flags on his driver stats even though he crossed every finish line in the races before retiring from menu.
After some emu testing, I found that this is caused by retiring BEFORE waiting for the black-white flag with the "Race Over" text to appear, not caring about the finish line being crossed or not. So technically it seemed that the game had not recognized these races as being finished and thus invalidated the run.
However the game still recognized the races as "complete", because retiring early usually gives you a rank penalty, but here the full points for the current rank while crossing the finish line have been granted. So I consider this an ingame bug that it gives you DNF flags without any retiring penalties and it should not be used as an indicator when to call a run "finished".
The ruleset has now been changed so that you have to cross the finish line before retiring from the menu instead of waiting for the "Race Over" flag to appear.
Also please note that you stop the timer on the "WINNER" screen, not on crossing the finish line on Ultimate Destruction Speedway.
I have now separated the PSX and PC on the board for every category. It looks like it's quite a bit overblown with buttons but it's the only fair way since the platform differences are too heavy to combine them into a single board imo.
I'm afraid seeing the winner screen is mandatory.. You could survive all races in Division 1, but not gain enough points to win the division. That would not count towards "finishing the game".
But in exchange some good old nostalgia. What a glorious grey box that thing is. :D
Added ILs for Time Trial submissions. Also added a field "car" to be selected on submission (Rookie / Amateur / Pro) since we use quite different ones.
I was thinking about that already. Would be handy I guess. I could add them as IL no problem.
Would be cool to have you back on board :P You play the real thing on a PS2 ?
