Here's a proper explanation: "Time starts on first input in level 1." So the start frame is the frame before the right arrow lights up. "Time ends when you activate the goal on Level 8." So the end frame is the last frame without flag movement. Since flag movement is often obscured on level 8, I may instead go with the first frame where red ball's hitbox obviously intersects that of the flag. So in this run, you start on frame 101 (zero based) and end on frame 4928. Your time is therefore 4827 frames, which at 59.94 fps is 1 minute 20.530 seconds.

For future reference, please do not use IGT edition for full game runs.

Equivalent TAS: d16n2a11n14d23e12d3e16d39e92d8a8n13 It would have been 8.161 seconds if you hadn't pressed left!

CanadaInsaneJetman3 years ago

Ya, you're losing A LOT of time to lag. I wouldn't be surprised if this would be a 3:4x otherwise!

1:24.072, but we'll give it to ya

My money is on the keyboard, tho I guess no-lag could also be making it harder. Ironically, a worse keyboard might be easier. Also try "D", right arrow, and keypad 6 (numlock off) and see if it's any easier.

My technique, which is easily over 95% consistent on my computer, is to press "R" and right arrow almost simultaneously but separated just enough so that I don't accidentally press right before "R".

I doubt the graphics card has anything to do with it, because Flash barely uses it. You could try uncheck "Enable hardware acceleration" (Right click->Settings->Display tab) and see what happens.

Okay, I updated the link in RBCE resources. https://www.speedrun.com/rbce/resources The best source for things is #links on the Discord server.

But if you can play and see a timer, then I doubt that was your problem.

You can't get green timer at all?

My guess is that new computer = new keyboard which will change the feel of getting it.

I've not done this on linux, but a linux flash player can be found on archive.org:

Download page: https://web.archive.org/web/20201201042748/https://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/debug_downloads.html

Direct download: https://web.archive.org/web/20201125025810/https://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/updaters/32/flash_player_sa_linux.x86_64.tar.gz

You could try different dates, and maybe get v30 which most use because it's what the autosplitter was designed with. But since that's not relevant on linux, v32 is probably best.

I've been thinking of adding variable like this for a few of the RB1 individual levels. They wouldn't separate the leaderboard, just allow you to filter and see what you like. In this way you could submit, track, and compare your best sub-optimal runs: like no death-warp 4, non-sub-20-train, or "fast 3".

If this appeals to people, I could look at doing it in the next little while.

Upload your splits to https://splits.io/ and put the link in the "splits i/o" field when you submit your run.

If you want to add them to an existing run, you can click "Edit run" and fill in the "splits i/o" field. I think your run will have to be re-approved tho.

When a variable is not used as a sub-category, the default filter is "Any" which should show all runs, but instead it filters to show only runs with the default value.

See this leaderboard for an example: https://www.speedrun.com/nibbles

Edit: I unchecked the default value and now it works as expected. However if there is a default value, the behaviour is still odd. I guess the actual bug is that the menu indicates that the current filter is "Any" rather than the default value.

"This series is not in need of moderation, which is why it was added with no moderators. In general we only grant series moderation under very specific circumstances."

@ShikenNuggets - Oh? I asked because I looked and was hard pressed to find a series without at least one moderator.

It would be nice to at least have a picture for the series.

Here's what I would have added: https://imgur.com/qVM8tli

Can I be added as moderator for the Jepack series: https://www.speedrun.com/jetpack

The series has been added recently and has NO moderator.

I am super moderator for 2 of the 3 Jetpack games.

Okay, so you're not running MPCCHESS.EXE (file size 160,637 bytes, MD-5: 8E334DA64F07A98F8B5BC3C2597C2CC3)?

It would run under both Windows 3.1 and 95.

The algorithms seem the same, since my 2D CPU vs. CPU game is exactly the same as your 3D CPU vs. CPU. If you can't get it to play 4. ... d5 instead of 4. ... e6, there's another reason for that.

I was about to post my runs for the DOS version but see my Windows runs have been moved to the DOS version?

The Windows version can be identified by the fact that it has a regular mouse cursor (rather than the coloured hand), and the game over message comes up in a dialog box rather than as a banner message. Also there's the fact that it's running in a window and has a menu bar. However if those might be cropped out, and if Windows is in a 640x480 mode, they are hidden during gameplay.

I may redo my Windows runs, since I've discovered that playing without sound will speed things up. If I do, I'll probably run them from Windows in 640x480 mode since the capture will look and fit better.

The Windows version seems to be able to run faster overall. It also supports the "Quickplay" mode on the 3D board which has been differentiated from "Full Animation" in the leaderboards, but needn't be for DOS.

So, could my existing runs be moved back to Windows? Then I can submit my DOS runs. Also, the DOS/DOS (Full Animation) categories can be merged.
