I've recently been doing some Battle Royal Solo runs for SNES, and I wanted to ask a question: Would it be okay to use Retroarch for netplay co-op attempts? I want to do some runs with a friend of mine from Twitch, but obviously real-life attempts will not be possible. We would use the SNES9X core/emulator, unless there is another one mods prefer.

I figure this would be fine since the Arcade WR uses Fightcade 2, which is similar to Retroarch in that it makes netplay much easier. I wanted to check to make sure though.

I am curious if anyone is interested in one final category being added to Tecmo Super Bowl. I think it's different enough to justify:

I've been playing the "10 Goals" category of Ice Hockey a bit, and I think it's a great idea that could translate to Tecmo Super Bowl. In that run, you do not have to run out the game clock. You score 10 goals as fast as possible, and you're done. Because of the variety of ways to score in football, we'd just say "X Points" and then you stop the clock. Timer would stop on the full fade-out after any cutscenes involving the final score (touchdown/field goal/safety).

I'd also like to hear some thoughts from TSB runners. One big question I'd like opinions on is: how many points should be required to complete the run? Last but not least, if anyone has any questions regarding this category, feel free to ask.

There's a forum thread started 5 years ago that asks this same question, so I'm not hoping for much but trying to get an answer to a simple question: why have the WR videos been missing for over 5 years but still allowed to stand? I know this game isn't super popular but it's strange that my 3rd place run is the only visible video in the 100% category, and the WR for House% is also missing.

Both of SmilingSatyr's videos from Twitch don't seem to exist anymore, and he hasn't been on SRC in 3 years. The only active mod is Spookas_ so these questions are to you sir: Why is your 2nd place 100% run hidden/private on Youtube? Why are you allowing WRs that haven't existed in 5 years to stand?

"Emulator runs are accepted if the speed is the same as the original game"

I'm sorry but this run is clearly not the same speed as the original game. In one frame, the yellow ant covers 3-4 squares both in the nest and on the surface, teleporting every frame of animation. Even the red ant in the video is moving 3-4 squares per frame of animation as the speedrunner goes to the red nest. Also the red queen dies and immediately gives the "Game Over" text. These visual cues are easily proof that the game is running at a higher cycle count than the original, almost double! This run needs to be removed, as it does not comply with the rules in the category.

I'm all for someone beating my WR, but they should do it legitimately with the same speed I played the game at. This is cheating.

I had something I wanted to discuss regarding this document, since it is now required to submit future emulator runs. I figured it would be best to post here, so everyone can see the discussion in case they plan on running Contra III on emulator in the future. The document can be viewed in the "Resources" tab on this website, under "Tools".

According to this document, Snes9x performs the Stage 4 tunnel in 1777 frames on Easy with 1 frame +/- of tolerance. Meaning a 1776 frame tunnel run would be accepted, but anything lower is grounds for rejection. Can you demonstrate this 10x in a row in a video, with identical frame-counts between 1776 and 1778? Because I've frame-counted every Snes9x run currently on the Contra III Easy leaderboard, and there's quite a variance. I've also listed the version if the runner did:

UltrosGambini 23rd place - 1777 frames (Snes9x 1.60)

Dewystine 29th place - 1766 frames (Snes9x Retroarch)

xenkaroshi 34th place - 1774 frames (Snes9x 1.60)

shwabteeve 40th place - 1766 frames (Snes9x no version listed)

HowDoUPlay 43rd place (current PB) - 1774 frames (Snes9x 1.60)

Headshotguy 44th place - 1775 frames (Snesx9x 1.60)

Kippe 49th place - 1778 frames (Snes9x 1.60)

HowDoUPlay 49th place (previous PB) - 1776 frames (Snes9x 1.60)

raffa_gs 51st place - 1774 frames (Snes9x 1.5.67)

NickBGoHard 55st place - 1777 frames (Snes9x 1.56.2)

combustibledan 63rd place - 1776 frames (Snes9x 1.60)

Sideswipe 83rd place - 1772 frames (Snes9x no version listed)

I think this is important, because it shows that people using Snes9x 1.60 have achieved between 1774 to 1777 frames for this count. It also proves that some Snes9x runs did have less lag. Two runs had only 1766 frames in the tunnel, but one is confirmed to use Retroarch and the other did not list what version. Maybe that's something worth taking a look at, but I don't think the majority of Snes9x runs are anything out of the ordinary.

I compared two of my own runs as well. My old 13:39 PB was 1776 frames, and the newer 13:11 PB was 1774 frames. I used the exact same emulator, exact same settings, on both runs. By these new rules, one PB would be accepted, and one would not. That is silly, and if this rule persists without change, I won't be running Contra III. I'm not going to frame-count future PBs and hope I have 1776-1778 frames in the tunnel so it will be accepted. Especially when I've shown my newest run, and over half the current PBs using Snes9x have variances bigger than this.

Sorry to be this guy, but I just submitted my own run for Excitebike and saw a small issue. I noticed the MS timer in-game only counts two positions, meaning all times on SRC should have a "0" in the 3rd position. I confirmed this by checking the leaderboard and noticing all but one time have this exact thing going.

I noticed that 9th place is jeverony with a time of 6m 07s 013ms. His video shows it's a 6:07.13. This should be updated to 6m 07s 130ms if I am not mistaken. I apologize for my OCD, I'm not trying to step on any toes, nor is this a huge discrepancy. I just wanted to point it out.

Edit: This is Selection A Any%.

Hello everyone, I have recently taken over moderation of this game and have decided to do something I feel has been long overdue: I will be adding new categories to run. "Win A Single Game" is a fun concept, trying to avoid tackles, but I was thinking of a way to encourage more realistic play and thought of a category I dubbed "Comeback%". Then I saw the forums had a few great ideas that went unnoticed as well.

I will be implementing one immediately: Single Game - Points%. The objective will be simple: win the game with at least 49 points. With this said, I would like to list several other ideas for categories and get feedback from anyone interested in this idea:

Lose A Game - This was an idea mentioned only because Tecmo Bowl has the category. It was rejected by a previous mod and I'm inclined to agree, because compared to other ideas I've seen, we have much better options.

Pro Bowl% - This is basically the same as "Win A Single Game", except in the Pro Bowl. It was rejected by a previous mod, but I want the community's thoughts on this. While it is very similar to something that exists, it does take the best players from each division and throw them against each other, and that is different.

Division% - Timer stops when you see the screen telling you that you have clinched your Division. Really just a mid-way between the single game and the whole season.

Week 1 Challenge - Pick one team from every game in Week 1. Win every game. Timer begins when you start your first game and ends when you finish the last of the week. This would be 14 games, so another mid-way between single and whole. But having to use 14 different teams would make this much more challenging than floating home with the over-powered monster teams in this game.

Comeback% - Pick any teams for a preseason game, give the CPU 21 (or some other amount) points as fast as possible, then win the game. This is means you could still kill the clock after you've scored enough to secure the win.

Also if you have any category ideas yourself, feel free to share them here!

Hello everyone! I am a fairly new speedrunner who would like to run Friday the 13th. However, there is a fairly huge drawback that I've noticed in this game's rules section: emulated runs are hidden by default. That rule is basically saying "you can submit an emulated run, but we won't acknowledge it". While I understand there can be differences between original hardware and emulation, most of the largest NES/SNES communities on SRC have integrated leaderboards consisting of both original and emulated runs (Super Mario Bros 1/2/3, Zelda 1/2/Link To The Past, Donkey Kong, Castlevania, Metroid, Contra, just to name a few).

Also it's worth mentioning that the current WR for Super Mario Bros. did it with an emulator and keyboard. I took a clip from a Karl Jobst video where he explains how some people devalue emulated runs; but regardless, they will become more prevalent as the original hardware ages, breaks, gets lost, etc: https://youtube.com/clip/Ugkxg-NiaEpCjpvR9_drvgz47NtnUsOj0Sc7

I think this all boils down to a simple question: do the moderators of Friday the 13th view emulation as legal? If so, emulated runs deserve to be unhidden from their current categories, or moved to their own category, so that they can be viewed for the effort the runners put into them.

I apologize if any of this comes off as rude, as this was not my intention. My intention is to hopefully change the rule where emulated runs are hidden. I know some people look down on emulated runs, but those people doing emulated runs put just as much work on researching, routing, and running their games as anyone else. If this community's original hardware players are opposed to sharing, emulators should get their own board.

I hope this will lend some consideration towards the idea. If you ever do unhide emulated runs or add a leaderboard, I will be adding runs shortly. If not, there's no point for me to waste effort on runs that'll never be seen.

I've been running the game a bit lately, and had one particular run where my "Use Item" option went missing for the first few turns in a battle. My cleric got murdered, then an orc got out of the AOE range of Ohlo's necklace and became the sole survivor, running into a corner and killing the run.

I'll post a link to a clip I saved of it below. My question is, have any of you had this glitch occur, where menu options just refuse to appear? Does anyone know if I did something particular to trigger it? Or is this just another fun RNG factor in a game full of RNG?
