The site (currently) supports english & japanese names for games. Japanese names are restricted to staff tho as people didn't understand that you had to actually put japanese in there and not just garbled stuff.
So I'm mainly an Xbox player and I've noticed both Xbox One titles and Backwards Compatible titles almost always have game updates. Majority of times there's no new in-game content so I assume these updates are mainly bug fixes. If this is the case does this mean finding minute saving out of bounds or helpful glitches are harder to find now because they can be patched out.
There is no such thing as "speedrun friendliness", remember, we're exploiting things the devs didn't think about and/or straight up bugs in their code. if anything, devs should hate speedrunners for exposing their incompetence. and fixing bugs is in their best interest, as there's always a slim chance someone would not buy a future game because they had a gamebreaking bug. (well, except for bethesda apparently, people are eating their shit up regardless of how buggy it is)
Is this an actual issue for the future for speedruning or is this in line with the natural order of speedrunning where major skips aren't discovered till well after a games release and by that stage game devs have moved on and no longer update single player sections of game.
well, for PC it definitely isn't an issue since they can downgrade at will Kappa
but for consoles, it tends to either generate subcategories for versions or people just suck it up, heck, even back in the day this was a issue with, for example OoT, which has like 2 updated versions that you can't use for certain runs because bugs are fixed.
get all ids via the api: https://www.speedrun.com/api/v1/runs?user=18qg9ndx
then send a delete request per run https://github.com/speedruncomorg/api/blob/master/version1/runs.md#delete-runsid
or go to Settings, delete, delete the entire account, (you can choose if you want to delete the runs & forum posts) then recreate it.
or just click each run on your profile and delete them that way.
or don't delete the runs?
I'd agree with the subcategory split, that way every run can be submitted, and runs can be moved if they're using patched things. nothing gets lost that way.
there is no "livesplit server"
(exactly as they were named before)
I'm not sure where this misconception started, but the site keeps track of the variables ( & thus subcategories) with their IDs, not their names, it's why we can have multiple of the same name. adding them "back" isn't going to give the variable the same ID, and will not "reconnect" the runs.
you need to either grab all runs via the API and re-assign them manually (or via the api) or press the big orange button to assign the default to them, then re-assign them.
It would cause way more issues if the site would automatically assign variables.
@Bradenbest Run-Specific information could be in the description, or image proof. the description putting it back in queue is compeltely intentional and good this way.
Keeping the run as is if a video is lost is imo the better choice, youtube shows you an error if a video is no longer available (e.g. "Video was deleted by uploader") but you know the video has existed.
I've had a similar suggestion like last year, but on a more broad scale (making completely new leaderboard pages inside a game)
So Multi-game boards could do something crazy like this instead of the subcategory mess that it is rn.
your suggestion is also top notch! love it
have you tried putting in the link I posted? I literally double checked and it works on my end.
e.g. something like this so if you haven't played in a while you can just look at it to get the pattern / route back into your mind. or for new players who can't remember it all yet.
in OBS, just put a delay on your facecam & its audio?
alternatively, no facecam (tbh, if that's you on your pfp I'd be more scared of you than appealed to watch)
My stance is to never submit runs w/o proof, and on games I moderate I'll reject any runs that are submitted without proof.
-
is just poor luck, if it keeps happening check what's causing it because once in a thousand runs is okay, once ever 2 runs something's up.
-
is your fault? don't see why that would be a problem
-
is also your fault? always record your runs.
just checked the run, you do realize the run doesn't have splits posted? if a run has splits posted it'll look like on this one: https://www.speedrun.com/Mitsurugi_Kamui_Hikae/run/1zq2871z
this isn't a livesplit issue... user error at its best.
