Sadly, there was no way to do this, without losing the runs that were submitted. I ask everyone who submitted a run to please do so again. I am currently going through the records we had and will update the leaderboard to the best of my ability.
Speedrun.com has not been cooperative, it has taken nearly an hour just to get to this point, as I am often dealing with the message of the site being overloaded, and the updates I try to get done are lost, leaving me to start over from scratch. This is another reason I have waited until this point to overhaul the leaderboard, as I expected there would be issues. I moderate several leaderboards, and as they become more active, they are updated. However, for some reason the interface has changed on the website, and I have the exact same layouts in the mod settings for the popular games, such as Rock N Roll racing, with detailed categories and consoles. It is not working for this leaderboard however. I have contacted SR support to attempt to continue resolving the issue.
I ask for understanding and patience until we have all the runs back up on the leaderboard, I am working to the best of my ability to meet everyone's requests here, alone.
Recently, SR.com user hebereke submitted some information regarding differences between Mechwarrior USA and Battletech. A submission with this information was offered, however, there was no speedrun video attached, however this was submitted recently to our leaderboard, I will attempt to confirm in the future. @ hebereke, if you see this post, perhaps you can elaborate further?
From what I understand, you cite the differences in the timing of the games yes, between US and PAL releases of the game for official speedrunning? If this is the case, then if we get enough runners for that category, it can certainly be added.
Toorima has expressed interest in joining the mod team here.
Personally I am all for it. The amount of runners continues to gradually increase, he has put in a lot of time and knows the game extremely well. Including routing for just about every category. He is also an honest runner and a long time friend.
With the approval of Catklaw and Deln, I will proceed in making him a mod.
Ive been playing a lot of Kratus boss hacks, super fun. Got runs of each character. I think it become somewhat popular and it has a very good feel mechanically.
Here is my PB for Abadede on Mania, the enemies are much faster and craftier, however so are 3 of the 4 playable boss characters. Zamza is just awful.
Welcome to the team and thank you for assisting us in the upcoming overhaul!
Lots of runs coming in recently, some have had their splits timing off to start. If you are able to program the offset please do so as it assists me to verify correct times! Its great to see the leader boards are active here! Keep the runs coming all!
If at any point someone submits a run to a console that is not currently listed on the leaderboard, or replies here that they wish to submit a run, the category will be created. The currently listed categories are the most popular based upon retail sales back in the late 80s.
If you run it, I will give you a category here!
For some reason when I upload the new ones, only the 3rd place icon shows up.
Even when I delete the old icons and save, then try to upload these 1st and 2nd, it returns to the old icons for some strange reason. Not sure why however I will keep trying. Thanks again for the icons chubbystickfigure!
I run this game on the Arcade bootleg. Its much more difficult and the enemies kill you in 2-3 hits. Any chance we can get a new leaderboard for the arcade/mame version?
Hoping it makes the cut, pretty sure I got everything. 1 death! Was on deathless pace until I got sniped. Let me know dunnius!
Looking to organize a mini-marathon of sorts focused exclusively on the SaGa games. I feel this is the forum to announce it as most of the runners here also run other SaGa games.
If enough interest is generated, the next step would be to start a discord. Thoughts?
Have been divided into Time and Score. After a long debate, it was decided this is the best protocol.
With the addition of the score category, time can exceed the current WR listed, as long as the population can go higher.
The time category remains unchanged and the rules have been amended for the new category for clarification.
Hopefully we will see more runner attemtps!
In recent testing I hit 836,160, but getting it that high, during a speedrun, would be insanely difficult.
Its shaving a lot of time off of my runs, and it is considered legit. The new 4 robot run uses it. It is especially useful when you have a NPC with you like Ki, and your chance to run goes way down.
On the older consoles, you start and get an encounter, then 3 steps, another, then another with 1 step or a reset. The 4th encounter comes 36 steps later. This is how most people get the Seven Sword to drop as the Haniwa is the 4th encounter on the last floor of central shrine.
After the 4th encounter, you get the longest series of steps in the entire table at 65 steps. In testing, this can be exploited to ensure you will not lose time on cant runs, or surprise attacks. It can also be used when you know you are close to getting out of a dangerous area, to ensure you get out quickly with no unexpected attack.
After the 3rd encounter, I simply start counting up in my head, I dont count every step, I just estimate. Then I will save, 3-4 steps before I know the encounter is coming. Again this is situational and works best when you have the NPC with you, but it saves a lot of time, especially early between Mr.S and Ki.
In testing, this also revealed it may be possible to manip a Karate, Jyudo, or Sun Sword drop on the first or second encounter. Depending on your equipment and manner of attacks, any physical item between punch and karate could drop, or any of the Paladin drops, like Defend, Samurai shield, or Sun sword. Obviously the only practical use of this in speedrunning woud be for a specialty party like 4 robots, and the only truly useful item drops would be Sun, Jyudo, Karate, maybe X-Kick.
More testing to come.
Due to increasing submission of runs from various platforms, an entire overhaul of the leaderboards is taking place It was not possible to merge, or label categories within categories for the full game leaderboard. I could break it down into tabs, with SNES, Genesis, etc, but from there, I cannot assign sub categories such as difficulties and mystery racer. This can only be done from the level leaderboard.
Please be patient as I import all runs to the categories they belong.
Had a run recently submitted, first one played on the Sega Genesis! As timing is different from SNES to Genesis, a new category had to be created.
By popular demand, a debug category has been added. This means that any runs under the full game category, with debug enabled, will be removed, I am going to do my best to move them all to the proper category, but some may be lost due to old or expired links.
Any further questions please post here.
