Regarding 1, April you're wrong. The problem is that it says it must be played on version from 1.8 to 1.11.2 and it also says it must be played on version from 1.0 to 1.6.4. Anyways, thanks for pointing this out, it's been fixed.

I think at one point I put into place a "no generated structures" variable or something like that. It was removed for reasons I don't remember. We do have some distinctions in place, for example, between obtain and mine diamond/emerald. However, for categories like enter nether, I totally agree with you. I'll alert the other mods, thanks :).

god i hate r/speedrun

This decision (that we made years ago btw) was done to circumvent a limitation of this amazing website. It is not possible to have different categories for different ILs, but it makes no sense to differentiate between glitched and glitchless in a run where the optimal run is glitchless. Therefore, a workaround had to be put into place.

The more contentious part in my mind is illumina submitting 1ms runs. Personally, I disagree with doing this, but I understand why it happened. Making something more clear is definitely not a bad thing. (My qualms are just the principle of having runs that didn't happen on the leaderboards)

ShadowLugia mentioned to me the idea of having different ILs for glitched and glitchless for categories where the distinction matters, and while I'm personally not a fan of the idea, it probably would make the IL leaderboard look better. However, in my mind, the only way to solve this problem is to have pac implement a way to have different categories for different ILs.

I think illumina has given enough context in reddit, so I won't bother leaving a "response" there.

I frankly don't care about dinnerbone's "challenge", our rules are what we view as best. You are of course welcome to do your runs on hardcore, you'll be able to get just as fast times as anyone else. It'll just be quite a bit harder.

I should mention that the Japanese leaderboard only runs on hardcore, but they have quite a different philosophy than us. If anything this proves that the difficulty doesn't matter a whole lot.

Alright, let's say you join a community, that for whatever reason, the overwhelming majority of high level players run Any% leaving out a movement option, or a trick/glitch, even though it would be faster to incorporate the strat. Let's be clear, the trick/glitch does not change the route or overall speedrun significantly.

If you join this new community, and your goal was getting a fast time, I would hope that instead of purposely running the game with slower strats than you could be, simply because everyone else does it, you would run the game with the faster strats that the category allows.

Let me emphasize this point: There is NOT a big enough difference between 1p and 2p to warrant different categories, therefore running SMG with 1p is not some sort of different run than 2p, instead it is running the Any% category, but with slower strats.

Of course, running the game with slower strats is fine, but the completely illogical part is when you start disregarding times faster than yours because they do faster strats that you don't do.

I think that instead of comparing yourself against people who do the strats that you do, you should learn to do the faster strategies as you get faster at the game, and compare yourself against everyone.

I feel that I, as a mere viewer of SMG speedruns, but an avid speedrunner in other games, has the credibility to judge how a game splits categories. You don't necessarily need to be a runner in SMG to provide an opinion on how the categories are split, since this debate has almost nothing to do with the game itself.

obnoxious, why not add a category for Beat the game as fast as possible with one hand, Beat the game as fast as possible with one hand constantly jacking off with the other, Beat the game with only feet, and Beat the game with the 2p controller in your mouth.

As much of a joke the entire concept of splitting faster and slower strats is to me and many other speedrunners, I don't personally think that the difference between Beat the game as fast as possible and Beat the game as fast as possible is enough to warrant a new category, for the reasons frogyfro mentioned above.

There are many objectives that are faster to do glitchless, because of how simple they are. These include: enter nether, obtain diamond, mine diamond, obtain emerald, mine emerald, obtain a cake, all swords, and obtain a golden apple. Many of these have a faster glitchless time than glitched time, which makes no sense and bothers me. So from now on, for those specific objectives, all runs must be submitted to the non-glitchless categories.

Why did we decide to do this? Well, I already explained why I don't like having these objectives split into glitched and glitchless, and making these runs glitchless only would mean that if you wanted to do glitches, it wouldn't be allowed. So this is the most logical thing to do.

It's also important to note that speedrun.com does not support having different categories for different individual levels, so we'll have to enforce this ourselves.

Thanks for reading. - Cuber

I wouldn't say that's a glitch. Sorta like using beds to blow up the ender dragon. It's unintended, but it's not a glitch.

Go to your stats folder, and make sure that stats_¤username¤_unsent.dat is the top file, alphabetically.

I'm pretty sure that the hypixel server has a leaderboard dedicated to parkour speedruns on their servers, but this leaderboard won't have them.

We are aware of this. Currently, we are undecided of what to do of those runs, but we will probably end up removing those.

Could you link the run?

Could someone make it that for ILs, you can assign which IL categories are applied to a certain level? So that different levels have different categories.

"You may wait for about 1 second of IGT after loading the world before starting your timer. During this time you may not move, but you may pause so that the world may load you also cannot look around or change hotbar slots. For IGT you can load the world, then S&Q and reset your timer before you start."

That is rule 15 of the Minecraft speedrunning rules. You can find the thread for that here: http://www.speedrun.com/mc/thread/gq26u

About other runs. Since so many runs turn around and do stuff before the run starts, I'm not going to remove all of them. All of the WRs should be able to be beaten without turning before the time starts. HOWEVER, from now on, other mods and I will reject any runs that are not timed correctly.
