How do you mash text somewhat consistently?

Hey there, I've been running this category for about a month now however I cannot get the hang of mashing for the life of me. I either mash pretty fast or terribly there is no in between. I'm doing it in the order of z, x, enter, left shift. I feel like its how I'm moving my actual fingers is the problem but I'm not sure. any help?

Personally speaking here, piano mashing consistently has never worked for me either. It's somewhat hard for me to explain here in a forum, but I essentially just do z, x, enter, left shift, but not very consistently, just however I can do it properly. Sometimes, depending on specific textboxes, I also don't do it consistently, because it actually feels much slower that way. One example being Toriel at the beginning of Ruins, right before she steps on the puzzles and also right after it. The textboxes feel much faster if I specifically time enter and shift to when the textbox shows up rather than consistently mash away, so there is also that. My best advice to you is to not focus on piano mashing or random mashing or any other "type" of mashing, but focus on consistency through a beat. I know it sounds kind of dumb, but that's the best way I've been able to do mashing if I'm ever getting tired of mashing over and over again or otherwise. Find a consistent beat that you can mash to with your keyboard, and try your best to stay on that tempo when you mash. Even if you are slightly slower for other dialogues, at least you are consistent! Btw, if you have any other questions, feel free to reach out to me on Discord, my username is the same as my Speedrun name :) I'd love to explain it more over there, because like I said, it is kind of hard to explain it over on a forum. Either way, hope this helps!

It depends on your platform, since PC is usually what people play, it’s X to skip the text and Z to make the next line of text appear after skipping the text. For Switch(what I play on) X in this case would be B and Z in this case would be A. For XBox and PlayStation, I do not know.

Also you hold X(or any key on console that replaces X) and use Z(or any key on console that replaces Z). That way the text is always skipped and you can press A to get rid of the text. So no need to mash anything but Z.
