Hello,

Thank you all for your patience as we brainstormed, tested, and implemented a way to moderate runs done on software from before and after the “Neo” update. All of your submissions are now up-to-date, and they are displayed in the appropriate section on the updated leaderboard. The new leaderboard sections account for runs on old or new versions of the PC game (i.e. “Pre-Neo” and “Neo” sub-categories). This will maintain the history of the speedrun.com page, while also ensuring no unfair disadvantage to runners on the updated version.

Thank you to @Ballerman93 for noticing the differences in music speeds associated with each version, and with further digging, I’ve found an easily distinguishable section of music that occurs at ~56s pre-Neo and ~54s Neo on the hexagonest stage. It is the highest pitched notes at the end of the musical bar. I can go into more detail in another post, or for run verifiers.

I’ll be skimming through the current leaderboards, but if you’ve submitted a PC run in the last 2 years, it’s possible it was done on Neo without realizing, which would have given you a timing disadvantage. If you’d like your run reviewed by myself to ensure it’s in the correct category, send me an IM, or simply resubmit it on the speedrun.com page.

On another note, as you’ve likely noticed, I’ve become quite busy these days. While I still enjoy Super Hexagon and want to ensure the leaderboard’s integrity, I could use a hand for quicker run verifications. So with that said, if you are interested in being a verifier for Super Hexagon on speedrun.com, send me a message and we can discuss. You’ll need to be someone who is detail-oriented and willing to spend a good couple minutes on each submission to ensure they are submitted and retimed correctly. This is especially important given the added complication of the pre/post Neo update.

Thank you for your patience, and let me know if you have any issues with the leaderboard changes.

Best,

Machs

Hi all,

Quick update: We appear to be close to a solution. I will update the SRC page further if this solution is able to be implemented.

Thank you for your patience,

Hi all,

As @paper2222 noted a few months ago, the Neo update to Super Hexagon will change the SR.C competition drastically. While it will be great to have all devices unified (in theory) under the same engine, the engine's "bug fixes" includes fixing In-Game Time to match real time. Because of this, it looks like all runs submitted with the new engine will be unable to be <2 minute times. This of course makes most of the leaderboard obsolete.

Is anyone aware of obvious signs to distinguish submitted runs that are on old vs Neo engines?

Any feedback on differences between old & Neo versions or ideas on a path forward would be greatly appreciated.

Feel free to reply to my Forum thread or send me a direct message.

PS: If you're waiting on a run to be verified, this is why I have not verified them yet, and likely won't until the leaderboard is resolved.

Thanks, Machs
