Why are BLJs banned in levels in 70 star?

I am just curious as to why in the 70 star category that BLJs such as the HMC BLJ are banned in the category. My friend finds it interesting that this category is called 70 star when it in reality is not the fastest way to collect 70 stars because of BLJs being banned. Thanks for any info!

Because it would be arbitrary to allow BLJs everywhere but star doors is the argument pretty much.

ya 70 is usually referred to intended any% without major glitches so bljing would ruin the point

70 stars is the minimum amount of stars required to beat the game the intended way, so any form of sequence breaking (such as skipping star door requirements) is not allowed. The BLJ is probably banned because it can be used to skip star door requirements.

Forgive me if I'm bad at explaining this.

The categories (other than 120 star) aren't technically about how many stars you need to collect, they're about what glitches are and aren't allowed. The reason you need to collect 70 stars in the 70 star category is because bljs are banned, and thus, 70 stars are required. That's why the red coin star in the final level can't be your 70th.
