Submission rules

I'm new here, what are the usual rules for submitting a run? do you have to clear all of your previous saves of a given chapter?

United States

you do not have to clear the save data, the only save data requirement is that you start from a fresh save, and in all chapters, you use the same save data from the previous chapter.

When running the game, you are allowed to use the bed to skip the light world and go straight to the dark world.

if you have any other questions i would be glad to help :)

thank you so much, i kind of have a laundry list of questions:

  1. do you have to show how your strats work? (is it different for the world record?)
  2. when does the timer start and end on a run?
  3. how would it be possible to demonstrate that a run is not spliced?

  1. No

  • Categories that start with Chapter 1 - When you select Start on the savefile. It is specifically the 1st frame that the screen turns black

  • Categories that start with Chapter 2 - When you select Yes after choosing your name. It starts the frame you select Yes.

  • When you finish Chapter 1 - Timer ends after closing the final textbox. The final textbox is the one after the choicer in which you choose to sleep in your bed after completing the Dark World.

  • When you finish Chapter 2 - Timer ends after closing the final textbox. The final textbox is the one from Toriel saying that Kris and Susie are already asleep.

  • Chapters 3 and 4 are TBC

  • All Chapters - The timer pauses when between swapping Chapters.

  1. After submitting a run, a moderator will review your run before it gets put on the leaderboard. You don't need to formally do anything to prove that your run is not spliced, but a video of your run is required for this game/leaderboard. An image of your final time is not sufficient evidence.

Please note there is currently a leaderboard embargo due to the release of Chapters 3 and 4, hence we are not accepting runs for the next week or two. https://www.speedrun.com/deltarune/news/q6kzvj67

I only have one other question: do you have any idea where I should go for a tutorial for recording runs/ using the timer? I’m not sure what I should use, so help from someone more experienced would be very appreciated

United States

additionally, I've read about banned glitches, what would qualify for those?

United States

if you're on PC, OBS is a good resource for recording your runs. if you're on a console, ideally you would use a capture card to record the video directly from the console itself, but barring that you can just record the screen you're playing on

a timer isn't required, and your run will be retimed by mods regardless, but most runners (especially on PC) use livesplit. there are split files compatible with livesplit that you can download from the resources tab here to get yourself started (for chapters 1 and 2, at least)

For banned glitches, they are exclusive to respective versions (1.09/1.14)

Save warping (only possible in version 1.09) and Cheese Maze Deload (this is a glitch that saves little to nothing)
