Hi,
I'm running Super Mario 64 jap [NTSC] on the project 64 emulator. In the second half of the dire dire docks course I suddenly got a frarme rate drop 'til picking up the star on the submarine. Is this a well known issue? I googled it but couldn't find any answer.

P.s.: Level starts at 15:15, frame rate drop occurs at 15:33
Yeah I get the same thing while playing NTSC on the actual n64, I'm new to speedrunning this, but the best thing to do is alter the camera in a way where not many polygons are on screen, I may be wrong though :/
Use Project64 1.6 or 1.7. and follow this tutorial and you should be fine.
Acutal N64 gameplay requires lag reduction indeed
This lag reduction for Project 64 video really helped me. I also changed to the other settings that weren't covered on the same menu to match whatever was in this video. Not sure if that helped, but DDD is so much easier now. Thanks!
If you wish to replace your twitch highlights with reuploads, please edit your already verified run rather than deleting the verified run and making a new submission. This makes it a lot easier for us to track which submissions are reuploads and should be less work on your part as well.
