You can have both version in the steam folder and rename the folders. For example 1.4 called "Fallout 4" and 1.1 called "FALLOUT 4". if you want to use the 1.4 version rename "FALLOUT 4" to something else (I call it "FALLOUT4", removed the space) so that steam will use the 1.4 version. If I want to play the 1.1 I rename "Fallout 4" to "Fallout 5" and "FALLOUT4" to "FALLOUT 4". That way, you still have both version and can switch easily. When there are new updates and you don't want to wait for a new downpatcher, just play on steam in offline mode when you rename the 1.1 version to "FALLOUT 4".
I have the 1.1 fallout 4 copied to my desktop, and changing the folder name to FALLOUT 4 didn't do anything.
Because they have to be in the steam folder. You can keep the one on the desktop as a backup but in order to play it it needs to be in the steam folder.
I tried to rename one of them to FALLOUT 4, and the other to Fallout 4 but it wouldnt let me do that (probably because the file system is not case sensitive or something)... So, say i want to play 1.1 do i then rename the 1.1 to Falllout 4 and the 1.4 to something else?
Yes the folder name of the version you want to play needs to be exactly "Fallout 4" (not case sensitive) and you just rename the version you don't want to play into an other name (for exemple fallout 5 or fallout4 (removing the space)). I like to have one of the 2 always in full caps so I can differentiate both versions easily
I wonder if you can add the 1.1 version as a non steam game, it should work without problem and no need to bother with renaming folders, just launching the good version.
Trying to downgrade from 1.4 to 1.1 for running the game, but every time I do, it closes the game very shortly after the "Please Wait" loading screen. Any ideas what may be causing that?
Reset/lower video settings, and if you can try to reset all configs and stuff like that. Try to remove all possibilities for errors. Might also be video drivers.
Hey guys im dropping it down from the 1.5 but the patch.bat file isnt in the fallout folder. OP said in his notes I would have to do it as an admin or something, but I have no idea how to do that. Any help?
When you are done dragging the files from the archive you downloaded into the game folder, run the patch.bat. If you want to run it as administrator simply right-click->run as administrator. If you're on a school PC or something where you don't have administrator privileges (if its your own private PC you have it) then you can't run as administrator. I've done it a few times though, and I've never ran it as administrator and never gotten issues. Just make sure your game is in the same folder as the Fallout4.exe and Fallout4Launcher.exe (Should be (C or whatever disk your steam is on):\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4.
now that the mod creator is open. will we be able to use it to use a mod that mimicks this downgrade. so we can play the new DLC. that needs the latest patchers.

If you're here because of Intel graphics issues you should try this: https://steamcommunity.com/app/377160/discussions/0/364041517012147849/ I found it on a thread on Intel's support forums https://communities.intel.com/thread/99533?start=45&tstart=0 you should check it regularly for updates on the issue.
Hi, I am trying to downgrade but I'm getting an error that says:
A duplicate file name exists, or the file cannot be found. Try running as an admin? I am running it as an admin, however the error still occurs. Any ideas?
EDIT: Nevermind solved it... I had loose .BAK files from the last downgrade and they caused the error, once I deleted them the patch ran fine. for anyone interested the files were :
Fallout4.exe.bak - In the main fallout 4 folder
and..
Fallout4 - Interface.ba2.bak Fallout4 - Misc.ba2.bak Fallout4.esm.bak - All in the Fallout 4/Data folder
Delete Fallout.exe.bak and Data\Fallout4 - Interface.ba2.bak I didn't test this properly, sorry.
Cheers Dalet, I beat you to it ;), I see you never mentioned the Misc and esm? are they to do with your patch? I have them just incase...
