GTA:SA making 25/26fps mandatory for leaderboards submissions?

I think that you shouldn't be punishing people for following the rules at the time they've done their runs. I can with certainty say that the 30fps times are very much beatable. I can beat my LS PB at 25fps and LS supposedly loses the most time at 25fps. Every time currently on the leaderboards is beatable. If people don't want to play at 25 pretty sure they wouldn't play just because they supposedly couldn't beat their pbs. 5:20s still have 15+ minutes to save and 30fps doesn't save anywhere near as much time, if any.

I think my opinion on the fps is different from anyone else, I think the game should be PLAYED with the frame limiter ON, but should speedrunner RUN their games the way "it was intended and should be played" ? I think that turning off the frame limiter could be considered within the speedrunning spirit which is to use everything the game allow you to get a faster time, some people might argue that changing settings during a run should be banned, but that's already what people do in VC when going to german/french to english, or GTA IV with traffic density.

the only problem with this would be that, in my opinion, using an external to limit shouldn't be allowed, and it might lead to some unfair competition between people getting barely 30fps and the others getting 250+ fps. but life isn't fair.

As I'm not running SA, and don't have any intention to (maybe some dumb category, jumps or collectables..., or a big race, but nothing really serious), this post shouldn't be considered as a vote but more like me throwing ideas. Either way I'm fine with a "Frame limiter ON" rule.

Edit: I remembered something from a few months ago on #gta, when Tirean was streaming a 30fps run to prove it was faster

Apr 17 16:31:45 <jolzi> S pls if you install sa you have frame limiter off Apr 17 16:31:58 <jolzi> and if you use nvidia default settings that'S 30 fps Apr 17 16:32:10 <jolzi> so install game and play the way it is is 30 fps

Frame limiter ON just for the purpose of competition. There's no major benefit to running at 1000 FPS (unlike Tomb Raider 2013 (from what I understood) or Half-Life), so might as well force the frame limiter on and allow people with weak PCs to join the competition.

Runs should stay under the legacy thing. 30 FPS was allowed back then, so don't punish them. Ultima has shown us that it is still very possible to beat those times on 25 fps.

There was a long standing 25fps rule? The segmented run was at 25fps, but that's not exactly a rule, he just noticed that some things didn't work on 30fps. Other than that, when Josh started doing RTA runs he wasn't even limiting his fps but toggling the ingame framelimiter during runs (so switching between probably 60 or more fps and 25fps). It was then decided on the SDA Forum that both 25 and 30 fps should be allowed. That was over a year ago (around May 2013). So I don't think there ever was a 25fps rule, but correct me if I'm wrong.

E: Right decision to delete your post. I wasn't offended, I just have a low threshhold to say what I think. Go thy way; from henceforth sin no more. ;P

It looks like I'm one of very few keen on 30 fps. Game looks better and you can get better times. Using a custom frame limiter isnt really rocket science (or is it?...) and was never forced by leaderboards/sda. 25 on widescreen is just pure pain.

its hard to express complex ideas in a language i never studied, furthermore nobody seem to be able to understand no matter how hard i try, so ill save alot of time for everybody, and go right into tldr

  1. 3rd party apps shouldnt be allowed for reason of comfort, or speed. Toggling frame limiter should be allowed as is autoaim [refer to 3). ]
  2. no sufficient proof of 30 fps having advantage over 25 exist (u lose more time swimming in amphibious assault, then u gain on heli takeoffs and gate openings combined) in addition there is no way 25 fps would be able to keep up with 30fps times over such a long-term run as sanandreas. 3.¤WARNING¤ this is way ahead of its time so there is no way anyone will be able to chew it, and i will burn at the stake. A value of fps should be found trough carefull planned testing, that will allow fastest time -> toggling framelimiter should be allowed as it is ingame feature -> a 3rd party programm should be allowed to cap framerate. and it should be called "emulation", and it would emulate some kind of weaker hardware, that would produce targeted fps.

YES I SAID THAT, and i guarantee someday that will be the way to run the game. Problem is if we aren't talking about some 40ish fps, but 1000, the day may not come for a while.

I am glad that we have a community consensus and no one is against the proposed ruling as much as to be actually disturbed by it. I can't easily form my own opinion on the subject - I don't need to, the way it is going to be decided is good enough (or maybe a lot of people are convinced as in the gta3 timing poll^^).

So how come this has come about again? I believe I was saying the game should be ran in 25 fps many many many months ago and people just turned a blind eye on it.

So what evidence has been found to determine that 30 fps is now the devil?

Common sense mostly

I know of this saying which says: "Don't say anything"

Germany

There's a contradiction: The rules were updated ("frame limiter on"), 30 fps submissions are still possible.
