Issues with rules & moderation

I'm fine with cleaning up the rules to have a time set in stone. I was talking with the other moderators about cleaning up the actual rules (as well as their formatting) like 2 hours ago. This is something I'll probably tackle as we get closer to having things set in stone. Right now things are constantly being adjusted and clarified. I'm 100% for full definitions and cleaner formatting though.

For 1 minute or 10 or 1 hour, you CAN'T know why the run is on pause, if the streamer is going to pee or if he is actually watching strates or solutions for puzzles. So what ? You will accept some runs and reject some others ? Based on which argument ? No matter how much time, in doubt you should not accept this.

@666Deadhunter the reason the games paused doesn't matter. A moderator still has to sit there and watch a pause screen, so not having it paused for minutes at a time isn't unreasonable to me.

Ok, so someone can pause, watch solutions in order to make puzzles faster but it's fine if the moderator don't have to watch the pause screen for too long... ok ok LOL !

Y'all need to chill, half of you running your mouth about framerate, pausing, resolution change, do ANY of you run this damn game? Do you ACTUALLY understand the difference in the framerates? People are changing their resolutions, like Orch for example, because they may only get a mix of 110-116 during a boss fight, that 4-10 FPS makes a difference running at 120, so they change it.

Don't like 120 runs? Don't watch them. Don't think that 120 FPS is fair? Show me your video, of you doing a 60FPS run, and getting under 59 minutes, because i can tell you right now that that's possible, knifing bosses saves about a minute for each boss by my calculations, roughly. That's 3 minutes. Current record for 120 is 54:45, so thats just under 58 infact. but evidently none of you have put enough time into running this game yet to achieve that, so why the big fucking problem starting?

The mods have told you so. many. times. this ISNT concrete. The games only been out two weeks, there will be more DLC, more patches, more skips, i mean shit we nearly routed out knives for the final boss the other day because we thought it might be faster, then none of you will even HAVE this problem. Have some patience and stop harassing the mods and streamers about framerate, resolution, this, that. You're acting like children, and although not certain, im pretty sure you're not children. So start acting like adults, show some respect and just chill out.

120 and 60 split will most probably be the case down the line anyway, because nobody seems to be happy. And by nobody i mean anyone running 60fps.

@666Deadhunter there's literally a cheat sheet for the puzzles in the discord, it makes no difference whether you have the solutions memorised or not.

Just ban the knife :)

@Phaero That's like banning the Striker just because a few people can't move their fingers in the right order to Ditman. Can't ban the tool, need to educate the people

Splinter6 and uhTrance like this

oof.

A 3 minute difference between using the knife and not using the knife is non sense.

If this game had ditman glitch it would be banned.

Going to address only the framerate in my post, because some of the other points don't concern me entirely.

60/120, to me, seems perfectly reasonably as a hardcap and a softcap. Why? Because Variable or totally unlocked framerate would be a mess, and potentially jeopardize any potential this game has at being competitive for those who want to play above 60 frames per second. The game doesn't function consistently on a mechanical level at Unlocked framerate, simple as. 120 is a fairly reasonable, higher framerate that most are going to be able to hit on average if they have a decent rig. Picture this however, someone with a meaty PC decides to drop their resolution / settings to Low and is hitting 250+ FPS in boss fights and lands an extremely optimal run. So, what does that mean? It means anyone who cannot achieve 250+ fps natively also has to then replicate those lower settings and play at an absolutely abysmal visual quality, or play at 60. Anyone with a fairly good rig can hit 120 without tweaking any settings, however. The obvious choice for most then would be... play 60fps.

And before anyone says, it's not about "who cares how the game looks it's a speedrun", it's about enjoying the game. NO ONE wants to play this game at 480p resolution with every visual setting set to Low just to be competitive in a speedrun. That sounds like a terrible time, and is a fairly silly precedent to set. Especially only because it's a 'setting in the game'.

I'll leave this post with an example. The very first game in this series, in fact. RE1 PC. Now, RE1 PC is a barely functional mess on PC, in fact the game can run natively at about 40-50 fps outside of menus, but it brings along a very unpleasant method of play, with many other issues, such as the in-game timer being totally messed up. Put simply however, it is faster unpatched, just not very fun to play. So, what was done? A 3rd-party patch was applied to fix/tweak many aspects of how the game functions. The fps was locked, the timer was adjusted and some other smaller tweaks were made to logically make the game runnable and fair. This game, similar to RE1, does not function properly on a mechanical level, it is broken... to put it simply. And I find it frankly silly that rather than having a setting that allows people to either 1. Run at 60fps or 2. Run at a manageable, capped framerate for better rigs would instead turn into either running at 60fps, or being put into a Low Settings 'Whatever framerate you get make do LOL' moshpit.

Well that's interesting,

First i ll not answer about pause or game audio cause it's so obvious that it should not be discussed.

Then i ll say that the community isn't blind. When we knew that RE2 was coming out, we created a group to talk about rules and stuff to do something fair. Because we all knew that the game gonna be hype. I asked to be a part of this group but without be a moderator, just because i like the community ... But sadly this group is actually useless :D ... Yeah exactly discord group is useless cause they are actually talking on another one.

Sooner rules are clean, lesser we have issue. why have we locked submission during one week if it wasn't for that ? Btw i know that stuff are found everyday so someone can explain why we accepted those stuff without doing a vote on forums like i always said it should ? Now you are asking to wait and wait again, @WitchRain told everything "When will we start discussing the separation"

That's basics stuff for moderators, listen people because they rushed WR on day one was stupid.

@maxylobes about accusation i'm sorry, @Zecc and @Soulless_Persona did a great job. and @CursedToast is available ^^ Do you think @Darazanjoll & @StevenMayte leaved for nothing ? Think again

One more thing, it's not the first time we have this kind of issue in RE history and i m sad that it is same stuff in 2019.

When I left RE speedrunning in 2015, there was drama. I'm back in 2019, there's still drama. Guess some things never change xD

If there are humans involved, there will be drama OpieOP

Edit: Seriously though, I am interested in future discussions about this game and look forward to running it. :)

Personally I feel 60fps isn't different enough from 120fps. The knife is broken for both categories except 120 is a bit faster (maybe a minute, not 3 minutes). As a 60fps runner I'm saying 60 maybe shouldn't be a thing and instead a new category that avoids using the knife to attack introduced instead. Could be as simple as no knife swings, could be more restrictive like no sub weapons or handgun only. Obviously it will be a slower category but a lot of games have slower categories as their most popular categories. Why? Entertainment (for the viewers as well as the runners). Isn't the whole point of this have fun?

One of the golden rules when it comes to game moderation is: “You do not decide for the community, the community decides for you.” Or alternatively: “You are a representative of the community, not the ruler.”

So shall we open a separate thread and have a vote on this instead of going back and forth which accomplishes nothing?

The one condition should be you need a run on the board for a vote to count (to avoid people using their platform to sway it the way they want)

And a simple yes or no, split 60/120 or not?

Let us get it out of the way then. I am fine with everyone voting for sure.

The plan on doing it was hit and miss depending on how active the FPS are but both seem to have some decent amount of members imo

Something tells me if 60 and 120 were separated some who arent up to snuff in 120 will run 60. Not to mention those unmotivated to submit because they cant compete with 120. If it does stay together, might as well make it just 120. Im guessing there are runners who went 120, but barely pass 60. The first 60 is in 25th place(Leon A) or somewhere around there is, Im guessing, not very motivating.
