@Shazers hey man, I'm unable to play the video that you submitted for your run. Can you check to make sure the video isn't privated?
Ok, so here's the issue with said category: it doesn't really bring any new elements to the table in terms of what you see in a speedrun already. All the enemies that we intentionally take damage from are very easily avoided without major path changes. As I and several others in the community see it, it's just another arbitrary category that clutters the leaderboard.
Besides, there's already plenty of categories where community members are besting each other all the time at. Over the last 2.5 months, the WR for each of the four main categories has changed, sometimes several times; there's 151 individual level records to go for, many of which are empty; the KC wiki also has a highscore leaderboard, if you're still really interested in that damageless aspect you can go for a lot of no hit bonuses. http://kidchameleon.wikia.com/wiki/Score
I had somebody submit a run done on one of these things: http://www.toysrus.com/buy/retro-gaming/sega-genesis-ultimate-portable-game-player-gp2632b-95653916
I suppose the best platform to describe it as currently would be Genesis [Emu], but I think adding a platform called "Handheld" would be much more descriptive, encompassing all those third-party handhelds that have been made for older consoles. Handheld-exclusive games will also get a suitable platform to select.
This is a speedrun site, so I don't see much point or sense in setting up such a category. There's plenty of other sites you can post a highscore for this game, like VGR for instance: http://www.video-games-records.com/3d-pinball-space-cadet-high-score-best-score-record-r238942.html
I have this run to verify, but when the main guy running the game has difficulty with a certain part, he tosses the controller to his buddy who completes it for him. It's meant to be a single player category, but it was technically done by two people.
The run is otherwise perfectly legit, but how does the community generally handle this kind of situation?
Kid Chameleon Any%. Only plays through three of the game's 103 levels due to a final boss skip.
I haven't noticed this happen on my version of the game, but that's very interesting you bring that up, let me know if you find anything useful!
Using window capture in OBS is by far the easiest way to record an emulator window with. Several tutorials exist on YouTube if you're having trouble setting it up. Recording footage from a console is much harder, as it requires a capture card, and I assume you don't have that.
We require video proof to ensure that all the runs listed are legitimate. Do you have any way to record another run?
Oh yeah, it can happen on telepads, too. Restarting round 10 times should definitely be more than enough for a 4 boss run.
So, you can sort of think of the infinite lives glitch as giving you -1 lives. Now, I can assume that when you beat Highwater Pass I, you were given an extra life, which would thus give you 0 lives. Every time you beat a level, the game checks how many lives you have, and in the case of having 0 lives, the game is just like "hey you can't still be playing the game without any lives!" and sends you back to the title screen. To prevent this, I would "Restart Round" a couple times immediately after activating the glitch to like -5 or even -10 lives. Otherwise, this could happen again even further down the line just through extra lives given at score tallies. Would be a terrible way to lose a run :o
I can understand board 21 due to that being the 9th key, but wouldn't board 9, the position of the final cutscene, make much more sense than boards 3 or 5?
If we want the categories we add to not be arbitrary as heck, there should be some arguable reason to consider that point the "end" of the game. I simply don't see any such argument backing up boards 3 or 5.
There needs to be some additional mod to keep the current ones in check. Their unresponsiveness and verification of a WR run so obviously TASed is inexcusable.
Ok so you're not using a tool like the one you use in this forum post? http://www.speedrun.com/Super_Solvers_Gizmos_and_Gadgets/thread/kluj5 Such a tool should be fair game, imo, but from what I understand, you're simply using very detailed notes after many observations to predict what combination of sea creatures will most likely house the pufferfish on each stage.
Very interesting, I've always just assumed the clues in this game were truly random. In that case, I'll try doing some statistical analysis of the Windows version tonight, and then we can compare results later on. Hopefully I will find some interesting patterns, as I'd like to continue running on this version of the game :P
Forestlaw's run is identical to the currently published TAS (it even has the TASvideos text at the beginning of the run), and should therefore be rejected.
Does anybody know how Oddtom (if he could respond here himself that would be even better) was able to guess where the pufferfish was with 100% accuracy in his run?
I've been running on the Windows version because screen transitions are faster than on DOS, but this indicates there may be some sort of luck manipulation strat on DOS. If so, and we find out the same sort of luck manipulation cannot be done on Windows, then we may need to think about making DOS and Windows different categories.
Nope, I can confirm all of the platforms listed here do, in fact, exist. GCN is from Sonic Gems Collection PS2/PSP is from Sega Genesis Collection X360/PS3 is from Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection
I always liked the idea of having categories for third intermission, 9th key, and kill screen (if anybody can even record all the way to that last one). I think any of those three can be argued in some way or another to be the true "end" for this game. 10k should be moved to misc imo, due to it not even showing the whole first level.
