This is the first new patch for the game in about two and a half years https://steamcommunity.com/app/32470/discussions/0/1474221865188261871/
Notable changes for speedruns and their submissions:
-
Version numbers are now 1.120.748742 for EaW and 1.121.748742 for FoC
-
EaW received five new skirmish maps: Polus Winds (Land), Peril above Polis (Space), Shipyards of Kuat (Space), Race for Ryloth (Space), Ryloth Garrison (Land). FoC received two new skirmish maps: Dathomir Hostility (Land) and Utapau Heights (Land). Land Control maps do not accompany any of the new Land maps. Since many runners still run on retail versions of the game (which do not include these maps), I think beating the new maps should not be required for All Skirmish Battles runs.
-
Boba Fett's destination can no longer be modified mid-flight when using his jetpack. This fixes the "infinite jetpack" exploit that was possible when not allowing him to land by constantly changing the destination.
-
Ion cannons, hypervelocity guns, long-range scanners, and gravity-well generators are now factored into the calculation of auto-resolve outcomes and the size of attacking forces the AI should send for space battles.
I think we can all agree that Galactic Conquest mode is kinda silly and uninteresting to watch when auto-resolve is allowed. Like this post if you're in favor of adding another column to the IL leaderboard which bans auto-resolve.
If you'd like this as full-game All Galactic Conquests categories for EaW and FoC as well, I will add them once someone submits a run without using auto-resolve. Be warned that it will be a very long speedrun lol
For the normal + expansion tracks category for instance, I figure the fastest way to beat all 13 tracks would be to have 13 different windows open and try to beat all the tracks at the same time. I hope such a thing would be disallowed because then the top time would go to whomever has the fastest PC due to the insane lag you'd have. If it's not allowed, a note in the rules should be added that the tracks must be completed one at a time.
Also one of the category names has a typo and should read "Original Tracks%"
For the Rank 31 speedrun, what is the easiest way to reset all your data when logged into an account? Do I have to create a new account for every run I attempt?
I tried playing while not logged in and clearing browser cookies and site data but I can't save any games doing that (slower for the speedrun).
The rules have been updated such that time now ends when the round clear text appears on round 48. This avoids a potential timing discrepancy that could occur if the chirp chain is broken right as the exit is touched. All runs currently on the leaderboard have already been adjusted to account for this.
Additionally we are also thinking about adding an IL leaderboard to this game. This would allow people to easily study the fastest RTA strategies found for each level, all in one place. Times would be measured via IGT so verification is simple. All 48 non-bonus rounds would be broken down into two columns: "Normal" which includes those rounds beaten on the first playthrough; and "Hard" which would encompass those same rounds played on the second playthrough or beyond. Let me know if anyone has further suggestions.
As the top times for some of the Galactic Conquests get more and more competitive (one now has two runs within a second of each other), I've decided to change the rules for when time starts for every category. In all runs, any load times immediately after pressing the appropriate start button are now factored out. This is to be more fair to people of all CPU speeds.
I understand that to be the fairest to everyone, all load times in all runs would eventually need to be factored out. I currently do not have the time to verify runs this meticulously, so we will address that when it becomes an issue for top times.
Every run's time currently on the leaderboard has already been adjusted to account for this change.
Due to the multiple requests I've received for it as of late, I have added an IL leaderboard for each of the 14 galactic conquests across EaW and FoC. As with the full-game category, any faction, difficulty, and advanced game options may be selected.
A YouTube user by the name MrChukthebeaver discovered that if you beat Flibby (the World 1 boss) and select "Retry", beat him a second time and hit "Retry", and on the third time beating him hit "Continue", you will be sent to the first level of World 4. I have confirmed that this works 100%. You can do this with any other boss as well. Just hit "Retry" the same number of times as worlds you'd like to skip.
As far as the Any% speedrun goes, no longer do we have to play Worlds 2 and 3, which saves ~11.5 minutes. That being said, a new category will certainly be created - one which allows and another which disallows using this wrong warp.
His time of 3:45 uses hints, which is explicitly banned in the rules. Furthermore, it DOESN’T EVEN WIN the game.

With the request to add NES Pac-Mania to the site, we thought it best that we start making separate leaderboards for each version of Pac-Mania. This leaderboard will now be dedicated solely to Arcade Pac-Mania and its direct ports to various platforms. Meanwhile, Genesis Pac-Mania has been moved to a new leaderboard so click on the link below to follow it! https://www.speedrun.com/Pac-Mania_Genesis

All highscore categories have been removed due to their redundancy.

A link to the Pac-Man Speedrunning discord sever can now be found on the left sidebar.
I'm just wondering what the logic is behind making the categories Level 10, Level 100, and 100K. It looks like they were established based on the precedence of the Tetris leaderboards, but as far as I'm aware, nothing special happens at any of these points where you can make an argument for it being the "end of the game."
If most people disagree with this argument, fine, but if you agree categories should end with a substantial event, here's some alternative points to consider: Original Mode Level 24: Fastest jewel drop speed (16px/frame) Original Mode 9999 jewels: Occurs just after achieving the max level of 199 Arcade Level 24: Fastest jewel drop speed (16px/frame) Arcade 9999 jewels: Occurs just after achieving the max level of 399
There has been a Kid Chameleon discord around for quite a while now. We do talk about speedrunning the ROM hacks sometimes so feel free to come on over and share anything or ask any questions you have. The author of Heady Metal's Revenge (super1rios) is on the server too if you want to say hi.

I'd like one of the site moderators to reconsider adding the game "Supra Mayro Bross" to the site. This game has been rejected in the past for the reason that "adding too many Mario fangames will only clutter the searchbar for users looking for real Mario games." While I 100% agree with this sentiment, it doesn't really apply here. That reasoning would be true if the spelling was similar to other Mario titles, but since the spelling of each word is so badly butchered, any searches for an actual Mario title will have eliminated this option within typing the first couple characters. Supra Mayro Kratt, a similarly-named game which has been added to the site, proves this to be true by showing absolutely no searchbar clutter when parts of its name are typed in.
I bring this up because:
- My run of this has accumulated over 8500 views, proving this meme is fairly popular.
- My record in the game was beaten earlier today, which also goes to show there's competition available for the game.
- This is Supra Mayro Kratt's predecessor, and having one on the site without the other leaves the memescape in a state of perpetual imbalance!
The rules state: "In-game timer recommended, but if you want, an outside timer can be used. Rules for that are that your timer starts once you gain control of the bike, and timer stops once you lose control. IF USING AN OUTSIDE TIMER,TIMER MUST BE IN VIDEO SO TIMES CAN BE MATCHED."
If we've determined real-time to be inaccurate for comparing times across different platforms, why use that as a metric on the leaderboard at all? It will benefit everyone if the "real-time" column is removed, in addition to this timer rule, so we wouldn't have to deal with this nonsense: https://twitter.com/Tenebrae101/status/917406470785945600
I added a new variable when submitting runs called "Version". This is worth tracking because there are minor differences between patches that could make a run slightly faster or slower. A full patch changelog can be found here: http://eaw.heavengames.com/patches/
The version number can be found in the bottom-left corner of the first EaW or FoC main menu screen. If you have submitted a run without the version number, you can just reply to this forum post telling me what it is and I'll add it in.
If you still need help figuring out the version, you will most likely have one of these. Retail Gold Pack EaW: v1.05.48824 Steam Gold Pack EaW: v1.05.48825 Retail Gold Pack FoC: v1.01.58931 Steam Gold Pack FoC: v1.01.58933
There is a Kid Chameleon discord that has been around for quite a while, but hasn't been promoted too well. With more and more people gaining interest in the game, we've decided to make a public invite open for anyone to join: https://discord.gg/4nCtK6F
Feel free to ask any questions or share any cool things you may have about the game, we usually get back in a matter of minutes.
Our only rule is if you feel the need to post anything that's not that relevant to the game, go ahead and post it in #general
I have this run to verify, but when the main guy running the game has difficulty with a certain part, he tosses the controller to his buddy who completes it for him. It's meant to be a single player category, but it was technically done by two people.
The run is otherwise perfectly legit, but how does the community generally handle this kind of situation?
Forestlaw's run is identical to the currently published TAS (it even has the TASvideos text at the beginning of the run), and should therefore be rejected.
Does anybody know how Oddtom (if he could respond here himself that would be even better) was able to guess where the pufferfish was with 100% accuracy in his run?
I've been running on the Windows version because screen transitions are faster than on DOS, but this indicates there may be some sort of luck manipulation strat on DOS. If so, and we find out the same sort of luck manipulation cannot be done on Windows, then we may need to think about making DOS and Windows different categories.
