I haven't complete made sense about how the auto-resolve algorithm works yet. All I know is that capital ships and heavy tanks appear to have the best value when it comes to auto-resolving. You probably have the best chance just spamming what the game considers to be the "best" units. No idea if the game values having a variety of units in the army or fleet.
Hero units are actually pretty overpowered when it comes to auto-resolving. In galactic conquests where the goal is to kill the Emperor, I've never once been able to kill him by auto-resolving. The Zann Consortium heroes are especially broken as I was once able to capture like 10 planets with just all of them in a single fleet.
His time of 3:45 uses hints, which is explicitly banned in the rules. Furthermore, it DOESN’T EVEN WIN the game.
It appears to me that throwing a container is the same thing as retreating; it just won't take an extra turn (so it'll at least help in emergencies). I expect throwing a container won't allow you to farm for additional experience off that enemy either.
That's interesting about turning... so you're saying it really isn't worth timewise to glance left/right? I haven't bothered timing it but maybe I should because in my runs I was using the glancing feature quite a lot.
One of the biggest things I have yet to understand about this game is what determines when you're reincarnated. I listened to the Intellivisionaries Podcast where they interviewed Tom Loughry (the guy who programmed this game), and he didn't even remember. If we're able to find out how that works, we may be able to play even riskier speedruns.
Yeah, magic strength/defense are BOTH much more difficult to level up than war strength/defense, so using those blue gates to quickly boost magic stamina seems to be the move in the medium and hard difficulties. I wish you luck in your future runs of this game. If you comb through my PB history, the most important thing you'll find obviously is how important the luck factor is. That being said, if you get a run where you find the Midas/Teleport book early on, don't waste it! Those runs only come around when the planets align and that's usually when they break the record.
Also feel free to join the Intellivision discord, we got a separate channel for Treasure of Tarmin which has been kinda dead for a while so any new discussion would be great! https://discord.gg/5SSnuxg
Thanks for linking these 2D maps @Koston! I also found those 3D ones you mentioned but the ones you made are much simpler to visualize and understand. I think you should put a link to these in the "Resources" tab on this game as well.

Each time you begin an encounter with an enemy, it will always assume a random HP value within some predetermined range. To my knowledge, throwing a container at an enemy makes it as if you hadn't attacked him at all; so he could be stronger or weaker when you re-attack.
-
And yes, you can use any type of potion mid-battle. For me personally, I like to use just the small blue ones for mid-battle emergencies. All others I just use instantly.

With the request to add NES Pac-Mania to the site, we thought it best that we start making separate leaderboards for each version of Pac-Mania. This leaderboard will now be dedicated solely to Arcade Pac-Mania and its direct ports to various platforms. Meanwhile, Genesis Pac-Mania has been moved to a new leaderboard so click on the link below to follow it! https://www.speedrun.com/Pac-Mania_Genesis

All highscore categories have been removed due to their redundancy.

A link to the Pac-Man Speedrunning discord sever can now be found on the left sidebar.
@FrankTheOtter That is true, common enemies also have more HP in Insane as well. I've been meaning to add the other two difficulties as categories if people started expressing interest in them. The game has gained some traction recently with a couple currently active runners so I've added them here and to Vectorman 2 as well if you want to give Wicked a shot on that game. As far as cheats, it really goes without saying that cheats are banned in speedruns submitted to this site unless the category is called Cheat% or something, so I don't think it's necessary to explicitly state that.
@Jesse_Lee I'm not sure what you mean that it can be manipulated? If you're talking about extra time powerups, the time gained from those is ignored, as it's simply the number of seconds which tick by that are counted. I also know IGT can't account for lag but that goes for every leaderboard which uses IGT. Understand that IGT is used because it's a real pain for mods to framecount every IL run that's submitted; counting the IGT seconds that pass is far easier, and in my opinion sufficient enough.
Also if you're curious, the reason we separated PAL and NTSC for ILs is because while PAL runs at 5/6 the speed of NTSC, the in-game timer actually runs even slower than that for some reason, so that gave PAL runners an unfair advantage.
In addition to PSP, there's a ton of other re-releases that could be added here. For instance, my run was done on Sega Smash Pack 2 (an old PC version) but it's still labeled as Genesis. Comix Zone has been released for GCN, Xbox, PC, PS2, PSP, WiiVC, X360Arcade, X360, PS3, PSN, iOS, Android, PS4, and XboxOne.
If you want a favor from someone, don't start by calling them lazy or negligent. Lizstar was nice and immediately verified your runs but next time, a simple "hey guys I got a couple runs awaiting verification, can you verify them?" would suffice
Can you ever imagine the happiness going to sadness when a person submitting a speedrun of a game calls you lazy and negligent for not verifying their run sooner?
The original owner of the discord has since deleted the server. You can play on any version of the game as long as it's a port of the original Genesis. As of right now, we aren't aware of any differences.
I second this, assuming the hardest difficulty stage still starts at 21 and last cutscene is also at stage 9. I don't think a category for the first two cutscenes are necessary, just the last one.
I'm just wondering what the logic is behind making the categories Level 10, Level 100, and 100K. It looks like they were established based on the precedence of the Tetris leaderboards, but as far as I'm aware, nothing special happens at any of these points where you can make an argument for it being the "end of the game."
If most people disagree with this argument, fine, but if you agree categories should end with a substantial event, here's some alternative points to consider: Original Mode Level 24: Fastest jewel drop speed (16px/frame) Original Mode 9999 jewels: Occurs just after achieving the max level of 199 Arcade Level 24: Fastest jewel drop speed (16px/frame) Arcade 9999 jewels: Occurs just after achieving the max level of 399
There has been a Kid Chameleon discord around for quite a while now. We do talk about speedrunning the ROM hacks sometimes so feel free to come on over and share anything or ask any questions you have. The author of Heady Metal's Revenge (super1rios) is on the server too if you want to say hi.

Where the other categories mark specific points in progression of the game, nothing special happens at 1000000 points. Score has literally no bearing on anything, I don't even know why it has its own category in the first place tbh
I'm against making a category with such an arbitrary goal a main one
I really like this idea because on top of different runners' hardware, loads are also very inconsistent among the same hardware. I often find myself praying for good loads when I've been doing tutorial runs for instance, and I find that to be pretty stupid. If we do implement such a rule, I'd be willing to retime all runs, not just the top 3, for consistency's sake. We'll need to define where all the major load points to subtract are:
-Loading campaign, map, tutorial, conquest, etc. -Exiting tutorial -Loading save/quicksave
I recently found that the period of time in the campaigns/conquests between the end of the last battle and the end cutscene is not a load at all, but a backup in your mission holocron notifications. If you just mash the "Mission Holocron" button to advance these messages, the end cutscene will begin to play much sooner. Therefore, this period will stay in the run without loads time.
That's all I can think of right now. Let me know of any other points that should be taken into consideration.
I posted this on the other forum thread: "So what you would do is simply uncheck the option for "In-game Timer" under "Edit game". Doing so will only give one column simply labelled "Time", but that's ok because the rules for each category will tell the player what type of time to submit there, whether it's real or in-game.
Now, in doing so, I'm not sure whether it's the real or in-game times that will be left in the new "Time" column for each submission. If it's the former, you may have to go through every run and re-add the times manually."
If you need help, I'll volunteer to be a temporary mod and make the necessary changes and fix any resulting problems (if any).
Ok, I was unaware that less games like this are being accepted now than there used to be. It's probably better that the site moves towards that policy tbh
- I just find it odd that it's my second most watched video out of 220 uploads, so I'd say that's hardly true.
- No. There's like 10+ other runs on YouTube in addition.
- Agreed! c:
Plenty of games can be beaten by simply holding right (hell, Barney's Hide and Seek Game can be beaten without a controller), but getting a WR sometimes warrants perfect execution. For this game, it requires some extremely precise jumps, though it may not look like such. So yeah, I don't actually see why not considering how many games I see accepted that are even less fitting for the site like Flappy Bird and the whole Perplexus series.
Your last statement is all the reasoning I need anyway, and if a mod can confirm that's another reason why the game was declined, that admittedly seems pretty sensible. All I'm saying in this thread is that I disagree with their original reasoning. Oh, and if the relevance of the flash game is another problem, I addressed that point too.
