I'd like one of the site moderators to reconsider adding the game "Supra Mayro Bross" to the site. This game has been rejected in the past for the reason that "adding too many Mario fangames will only clutter the searchbar for users looking for real Mario games." While I 100% agree with this sentiment, it doesn't really apply here. That reasoning would be true if the spelling was similar to other Mario titles, but since the spelling of each word is so badly butchered, any searches for an actual Mario title will have eliminated this option within typing the first couple characters. Supra Mayro Kratt, a similarly-named game which has been added to the site, proves this to be true by showing absolutely no searchbar clutter when parts of its name are typed in.
I bring this up because:
- My run of this has accumulated over 8500 views, proving this meme is fairly popular.
- My record in the game was beaten earlier today, which also goes to show there's competition available for the game.
- This is Supra Mayro Kratt's predecessor, and having one on the site without the other leaves the memescape in a state of perpetual imbalance!
When the "&" symbol is used in category titles, it appears as "&" on stats pages. As you can also see from the picture, game titles do not experience this problem. https://twitter.com/Winslinator/status/906613950867013632
So what you would do is simply uncheck the option for "In-game Timer" under "Edit game". Doing so will only give one column simply labelled "Time", but that's ok because the rules for each category will tell the player what type of time to submit there, whether it's real or in-game.
Now, in doing so, I'm not sure whether it's the real or in-game times that will be left in the new "Time" column for each submission. If it's the former, you may have to go through every run and re-add the times manually.
The rules state: "In-game timer recommended, but if you want, an outside timer can be used. Rules for that are that your timer starts once you gain control of the bike, and timer stops once you lose control. IF USING AN OUTSIDE TIMER,TIMER MUST BE IN VIDEO SO TIMES CAN BE MATCHED."
If we've determined real-time to be inaccurate for comparing times across different platforms, why use that as a metric on the leaderboard at all? It will benefit everyone if the "real-time" column is removed, in addition to this timer rule, so we wouldn't have to deal with this nonsense: https://twitter.com/Tenebrae101/status/917406470785945600
Ok, that sounds fine regardless, so any use of glitches should be fair game as far as I'm aware.
Oh I thought you meant add him as a moderator. Sorry about that. Well, long story short, Todd Rogers' 5.51 is very controversial, and unless he actually has video proof of himself getting a slower time, he probably won't be appearing on the leaderboard is my guess
I added a new variable when submitting runs called "Version". This is worth tracking because there are minor differences between patches that could make a run slightly faster or slower. A full patch changelog can be found here: http://eaw.heavengames.com/patches/
The version number can be found in the bottom-left corner of the first EaW or FoC main menu screen. If you have submitted a run without the version number, you can just reply to this forum post telling me what it is and I'll add it in.
If you still need help figuring out the version, you will most likely have one of these. Retail Gold Pack EaW: v1.05.48824 Steam Gold Pack EaW: v1.05.48825 Retail Gold Pack FoC: v1.01.58931 Steam Gold Pack FoC: v1.01.58933
Any version or patch officially released by Lucasarts/Petroglyph or whatever should definitely be fair game due to the issue that you mentioned. So feel free to use those extra fighters. However, we of course can't allow any unofficial patches or mods.
I found a site which lists all the official patches released: http://eaw.heavengames.com/patches/
Could you elaborate a bit more on what the glitch you're referring to is?
Should we also allow glitches?
I don't know of any glitches that are really that game-breaking. All the ones I've read about sound like freak occurrences and are really hard to recreate, but let me know if you know of one which should be discussed.
I don't think Todd Rogers has a speedrun.com account though
oof, I also forgot to mention the possibility of putting other AIs on your own team. Should player + Hard AI + Hard AI against Easy AI be allowed? Personally, I think we should limit it to just the player against a single AI (easy would be fine); otherwise, people who are garbage at the game could still get decent times. I'll go ahead and add this to the rules unless someone provides a good argument otherwise and we can discuss it further.
Actually, an even faster way would be to just spam droidekas because with 5000 starting credits you can spam 12 right off the bat and still be able to do enough damage to win really early. Same goes for spamming T2-B tanks as rebels and AT-STs as empire. Additionally, each of these three units I mentioned has their own strengths and weaknesses: T2-Bs have good defense and are fast, AT-STs are really cheap, and I believe droidekas have the strongest firepower. So given this, any faction is similarly overpowered if you have the right strategy, but we may still see different factions being used for different maps given the strengths and weaknesses of the units. That's my take anyway.
Now the spam and raid strategy is pretty broken, but allowing any Advanced options are far worse. When unchecking pre-built base (and the end goal is to destroy the base), all you need to do is move your starting troops to the base right away. The second the AI tries to build anything, you destroy it and you win. Imo, this takes out a lot of strategy, and any chance this category has at being interesting. In addition, default options starts you at 5000 instead of 8000 credits, limiting insanely excessive amounts of spamming.
So there's some more of my two cents. Let me know of any other considerations you guys have.
I don't see why not. Additionally, you've ran the Steam version, my run was done on the Sega Smash Pack 2 - another PC version (both runs were approved on the leaderboards), and mecharichter used the Xbox360 version in his SGDQ 2013 run (which was approved by SDA).
From what Wikipedia lists, the Gamecube, WiiVC, PS2, PS3, PSN, PSP, Xbox, Xbox360, PC, iOS, and Android versions all appear to be direct ports of the game with no discernible differences, and are also probably safe to add as acceptable platforms on the leaderboards.
I know the GBA port has a fair bit of mechanics differences, and I think we can at least wait on adding that as an available platform for that reason.
If a mod can respond to this thread with their thoughts, that would be great.
I think this is what you're referring to: The description says it can be avoided by destroying the crane in the previous room, preventing possibly a sprite overload.
I believe mecharichter was doing this on the Genesis version and the game just happens to reset instead of freeze like the Steam version. It's common for different ports of genesis games to crash in slightly different manners.
Certainly. However, it's a little hard to add considering all the possible options there are for forming categories. Your suggestion makes a lot of sense for the Empire at War base game, but things get a bit more complicated when you consider Forces of Corruption being that you can play as any of three factions, versus any of those same three factions.
Here's what I had in mind (entries with a - would be subcategories):
All Skirmish Battles -EaW: Land -EaW: Space -EaW: Land Control -FoC: Land -FoC: Space -FoC: Land Control
I think the faction chosen to play as and to fight against should be up to the discretion of the player, whatever they believe will get each battle done fastest The only problem left is what should the rules on the "Advanced" options be? Unchecking the option "Pre-built base" makes all the land battles stupid easy, which makes me think there should be a rule for leaving all options under the "Advanced" tab as default. Opinions?
There is a Kid Chameleon discord that has been around for quite a while, but hasn't been promoted too well. With more and more people gaining interest in the game, we've decided to make a public invite open for anyone to join: https://discord.gg/4nCtK6F
Feel free to ask any questions or share any cool things you may have about the game, we usually get back in a matter of minutes.
Our only rule is if you feel the need to post anything that's not that relevant to the game, go ahead and post it in #general
Alright, you're good now. Be sure to make your videos public or else other people won't be able to watch them. Anyway, congrats on sub-hour! :)
Ok, it says the video is private, which means that you are able to play the video, but not anybody else. Here's how to make a video either public or unlisted: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/157177?co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop&hl=en
I would say try uploading it again, maybe your internet cut out during the processing stage or something. Was there any specific error message it gave you?
