Fair enough, just noticed it and thought it was worth pointing out.
Video seems to be missing on Peklax's run. It looks like they deleted their Twitch channel.
@ZexanGER How long have you been waiting? I'd suggest posting in the forums for that game. The moderator was online less than 24 hours ago, so they seem relatively active. If you post there they should see it soon.
I think there are some things that could be improved with the leaderboards for this game.
-
Rules. At the very least, the rules should state when the timer is supposed to start and end. Having clearly defined rules makes things easier for new runners, and makes sure that everybody is on the same page.
-
Subcategories for different difficulties. As it stands, there's really no reason to run the game on any difficulty other than Easy. If someone wanted to run on Insane (or even just Hard), that run would be directly compared to runs on lower difficulties. Having subcategories for each difficulty solves this problem. This applies to NG+ as well, since you can play NG+ on any difficulty from what I remember.
-
Milliseconds. Due to the way this site works, leaderboards look really weird when some runs are accurate to the millisecond and others aren't. Because of this, I think it would be better to either require all runs to be accurate to the millisecond, or to remove the millisecond option entirely. Considering that the current world record is almost 3 hours long and, as of now, the two closest runs are over 15 minutes apart, I don't think that level of precision is necessary or really adds anything, so I would opt to remove them. Either way, it should be consistent.
The things I've suggested above are the more major and important things I'm suggesting here. The things I'm mentioning below are less significant and a bit more tied to my personal opinion, but I still felt they were worth mentioning.
-
Remove the segmented category. Single-segment runs are generally preferred nowadays, and a game like this doesn't really benefit from having segmented as an option. If there were runs in the category then I wouldn't want to remove it, but there haven't been any runs and nobody seems interested in doing one. There doesn't seem to be any reason for it to exist, and frankly I'm not entirely sure why it was created in the first place.
-
Rename "Any% New Game" to just "Any%", and rename "Any% New Game+" to just "New Game +". This might just be personal preference, but I think it would look better that way. As it is, the two category names are very similar and a bit redundant. One could argue that this would make it less clear what exactly the categories are, but that's where rules come in.
I realize I've brought up a lot here, but I felt that one large thread was a better option than 4 or 5 smaller threads. I'm fully open to discussion on any of these points.
Would anyone actually do it? Nobody's run New Game Minus in over a year, and only two people have ever done it.
Aside from having a run submitted in your name without your permission, I'm having trouble coming up with a good reason as to why someone would want to remove a legitimate run, especially a world record. If you're just going to remove it when you get bored of speedrunning then I'm not sure why you would bother submitting it in the first place.
I think the suggested "Anonymous run" is probably the best option, as it preserves the accuracy of the leaderboards while still allowing people to drop out of them (for whatever reason). That being said, I don't really think it's a big deal if a non world record/top 3 run is completely removed.
Though, considering the vastly different opinions on the issue I don't think a site wide rule is a good idea.
Okay, that's still kind of annoying but at least we can work with it. I've modified the route so that you only complete side missions after the end of the story.
Though, I'm curious, if there's an odd number of side missions, like if you complete one and there's 13 left, I wonder if it'll want you to do 7 or 8.
Edit: Nevermind, looked at your stream and saw that you tried that.
If/when I do another run, what I think I'll do is just not complete any side missions until after the game is completed (but still do the other objectives on the same route), since as far as I know that's the only way I can guarantee that I'll only need to do 7 missions, and I don't feel like wasting another 5 hours to find out that doing it a different way doesn't work.
Played on PC, and I didn't intentionally trigger any glitches.
Here, this is what it looked like right after I beat the main story:
No, I only did 6 during the story. I know how many I did. I did the Deacon Blackfire one after completing the main story, just like I have in the route. You can watch the recording of the stream if you don't believe me. And, as it shows in the screenshot, it wants me to do 10 now.
If it works for you on the Xbox version, then it's possible that it's just completely broken on PC.
I did 6 side missions during the story and this is what happened. I did the seventh one after beating the story.
Apparently this doesn’t work at all. It seems like the number of side missions required to get the partial ending changes depending on how many you do during the main story. Doing it this way requires 10 side missions total. I have no idea if this is intentional or if it’s just completely broken.
I've updated the document with this info, but I'll leave everything else on there for now.
Of course, I want it to be fair too. I posted this route here to help other people run the category.
I believe you, and I think I do remember that being the case now that I'm thinking about it, but as they say, "trust, but verify".
I've updated the list now. If it turns out to be wrong then I'll just revert it back.
I'm gonna check that to be sure. If that's correct then all you really need to change is to do Deacon Blackfire after Scarecrow.
What do you mean? You can end every side mission before completing the main story.
I'm not sure what you guys are trying to say. I'm not saying "this is what you have to do", I just made a route for the category. You're free to use it if you want, or you can come up with your own route.
Good to know about Man-Bat, I didn't think he was that predictable. If he's pretty much guaranteed to trigger on the Gotham Casino building then we should definitely factor that into the run. Your route sounds pretty good to me.
Whoops, you're right about Firefly. I messed around with the order there a bit and missed that. I'll fix that in a moment.
I didn't think you could just leave as Azrael, I thought you had to do something with the sword first.
I was originally just gonna post my notes in plain text, but they ended up being pretty long, so instead I'll post a link to a Google doc here. It's a lot easier to edit and reformat that anyway. I'll try to keep it up to date if new strategies/routes are found (and I'll gladly give editing privileges to anyone who runs the category, just send me a PM on Discord or something).
