Apparently we never posted an invite link for the Discord server here and it's a little hard to find these days, so, here's a permanent link: https://discord.gg/29Yk5gR9Aa
If the mods want to add this to the game page itself under General -> Community Resources -> Discord URL that'd be great.
The rules for this game are pretty barebones. The full-game categories don't mention timing rules, and the level category has nothing. Could someone touch those up? If there's truly nothing else worth mentioning then fair enough, but timing rules are kind of the bare minimum.
Why are Aquaman and Classic Aquaman two separate categories? I've only finished one playthrough so I can't speak for Tempest or Black Manta, but as far as I can tell Classic Aquaman is literally just a reskin. Are there any actual gameplay differences between them?
I think y'all messed up the leaderboard a bit. 'Separate load times' is checked, but you don't seem to be using it for anything (for all runs the 'Time without loads' column is either completely empty, or it's the exact same time as the other column), you may want to uncheck that. You should also uncheck 'Show empty time columns', I have no idea why that checkbox is enabled by default or even exists in the first place but yeah.
So I just picked up a PS2 copy of this game, and unfortunately, unlike the GameCube version, it seems like you can never skip cutscenes. Going back into Chapter Select still does not allow you to skip them. Very annoying.
Weirdly, the PC version always allows you to skip cutscenes, even if you've never seen them before.
As is known, GameCube only lets you skip them after you've seen them once.
Anyone happen to know if/under what circumstances the Xbox version lets you skip cutscenes? Xbox emulation is kinda trash so I haven't been able to test it that way. Would be cool if there was a console version that let you skip cutscenes in Any%, because I really don't want to deal with the garbage PC port if I don't have to.
So what exactly is the modification to improve load times on the Xbox version? Just picked up an Xbox to run this on
Are there any known differences between the PS1 and N64 versions, or has this not been explored? I'm currently in the process of getting a PS1 copy, I can do some testing with that once I get it if nobody has already.
In light of new information, we've decided that the in-game timer is not a viable timing method for this game, and we'll be exclusively using real-time going forward. The leaderboard and rules have been updated accordingly.
For future reference, the issues with in-game time are: • When you reload checkpoint, IGT reverts back to what it was when the checkpoint was created. This basically means you could save scum anytime you make a mistake to get a "perfect" run • Time spent during the final boss fight is not included in the final IGT • Time pauses during hacking puzzles • On 3DS and Vita, IGT doesn't show seconds
Why are there 12 categories and 48 subcategories when there are only 4 runs? Seems pretty overkill.
If having all those categories really is necessary, have you considered having multiple levels of subcategories (like, having the characters and the difficulties both as subcategories)? Might be a lot cleaner than what's currently going on
If there are any categories you would like added to this leaderboard, you can request them here.
There isn't anything set in stone at this point regarding what can or can't be added, but please keep the following things in mind:
- Do a run of your proposed category and link the video. We won't add it unless people have actually done it.
- Anything that's fundamentally just "Any% except it ends somewhere else" will probably not be added. If everyone can just submit their Any% PB then having a separate leaderboard for it is kinda pointless.
- Weirdly specific and unnecessary requirements (e.g. "you must play with a certain skin") will be ignored.
This subforum is for general speedrunning topics, and it's unlikely that anybody here knows the answer to your question if it's related to a specific game.
If you have a question that relates to a specific game, you should first check that game's rules, and if you don't find the answer there, then ask in the forums for that game (or if they have a Discord server you can ask there as well). You can find the game-specific forums by going to the game's leaderboard page and then selecting the 'Forum' option in the sidebar on the left side.
We're currently voting on whether the Glitchless version of Hammer Skip should be allowed in Glitchless and Glitchless w/Cat, specifically this version of it:
This is currently allowed and there are multiple runs on the leaderboard that use it, however due to strong opposition we've decided to revisit the issue and hold a formal vote on it.
The vote is being held in the Arkham speedrunning Discord server and will be open until October 30th at 12:30pm EST. If you're in the Discord and do not have access to the voting channels please let me know ASAP.

Aside from the meme part about "not understanding the deeper intricacies of the category" or whatever, the rules for key% appear to be identical to Human Key%? I've gathered that there's some deliberately unwritten requirements here (and the run videos create more questions than answers), and I'm not sure how anybody's supposed to figure out what those are.
Can someone please clarify what the actual rules for this category are?
I've looked around a lot for this and there sure are a lot of products that claim to upscale but look super sketchy, or unreliable, or probably don't actually do any upscaling, and I don't really know how to spot what exactly I'm looking for so I figure I'll ask here.
Background on my setup, I have a PlayStation 2 with a component (I forget which one's which, the one with 3 video outputs and 2 audio outputs) cable, a thing that converts from component to HDMI, and an HDMI capture card. The PS2 outputs at 480i (some games can do 480p, but most don't).
For reasons not worth getting into, I need the input into the capture card to be at least 480p, or 576i (or any standard resolution higher than that). So ideally, I would have an upscaler that:
- Can upscale 480i to pretty much anything better than that
- Takes either Component or HDMI input (composite would be fine as well but I'd like to avoid this)
- Ideally has HDMI output
- Ideally has minimal delay, but if it's HDMI input I can work around this
- Ideally under... $100 USD? If I need to buy like a Framemeister to make this setup work I'm just gonna abandon this idea.
Am I being way too greedy for my price range? Does such a thing even exist at all? If not, what's the closest I can get to any of this?
We've just opened up a vote regarding the timing for the Any% and 100% categories. Specifically, we're voting to either,
- Keep everything as is.
- Completely remove the Intro Walk segment from Any% and 100%, and adjust the start time to be consistent with other categories.
- Allow "race file" timing so runners can choose to start their runs after the intro walk.
More specific information in this video:
The vote is being held in the Arkham Speedrunning Discord and is open to anyone with a verified run in the Any% or the 100% category. If you're in the Discord, have a run in one of those categories, and do not see the voting channels, please send me a private message and I'll get that fixed up for you.
The vote will remain open until July 6th at 12pm EST (4pm GMT).
Update: It seems the Elgato HD60S simply does not support 480i. To resolve this you either need a different capture card that does support 480i, or you need some kind of upscaler.
This is a bit of a weird one. The capture card I have is an Elgato HD60S. To be able to capture my Playstation 2 with it, I'm outputting with Component (YPbPr) into a Component to HDMI converter, and then that into the capture card. Problem with this approach is that audio gets kinda screwed, as shown here (I don't know if that happens through the capture card's output as well or if it's only happening on the feed, and I have no way to check that at the moment):
Up until now, the PS2 games I've wanted to record have supported Progressive Scan. When I turn that on, the audio issue goes away. However, I now want to record a game that doesn't have this feature. I've been messing with any setting that I thought could be affecting things, but no luck so far.
Now, I'm well aware that I can (probably) fix this by buying a Composite to HDMI converter and using composite output instead (or just cut the middle man and get a Composite capture card), but I'd like to avoid buying new hardware if possible. I'm curious if anyone's run into a similar problem in the past and found a way around it that didn't involve buying new equipment.
There's actually three distinct versions of this game (or more accurately, three completely different games that share the same name):
-PS3/Xbox 360 version (which this leaderboard covers) -Wii/3DS version -DS version
Since these three versions are fundamentally different games, they should be treated as such. As a result, this leaderboard will remain exclusively for the PS3/Xbox 360 version. If you wish to have a leaderboard for one of the other versions, you should request it as a separate game here: https://www.speedrun.com/requestgame?series=marvel
