Give me videos of your call holding fails

E: It was due to a bug in an old autosplitter that simulated button pressed (split button presses). It does not affect tduva's LiveSplit autosplitter. . . . .

Reset and Tirean said that holding calls during mission pass was unreliable. Give me videos so I can troubleshoot, please. I need an input display and your relevant bindings (action/2nd fire) and your version. Ideally, you also unzip this and drag and drop cheat_table.CT onto CheatEnginePortable.exe and record that window as well.

Then I know what you pressed and when and which buttons the game registered or did not.

Thank you.

Edit: Microphones are no substitute for the displays since you cannot say "now I slipped off the button for one frame without noticing" (as has happened to me a few times) or "now I pressed a million buttons and my caps lock was eaten".

Edit2: In Cheat Engine, go to the Menu: Edit-> Settings and change all the intervals to 20. They are at the bottom of the window that opens up. Both update intervals seem to be essential.

I've investigated this before and in the end it just comes down to the game being a shit and letting go of your caps button as the mission passes. If it's a version thing then great, i'd like to know what version gives caps lock consistency for that easy time save. This has never happened to me when i held shift, but shift is a crap button to hold. I play on Retail 1.0

Germany

Try this: hold the shift button in the moments you know the game likes to drop caps lock. After that, release and hold caps lock and release shift. I'll try that in my runs except that I use an extra mouse button for the dropping bullshit workaround and caps lock to hold for long periods. Reasoning below.

I just found out that with Windows 98 compatibility mode, Shift does not have a special property I know it has without compatibility mode: it is dropped when you skip the Jizzy(cutscene mission) cutscene with a non-special key.

Special keys are the mouse buttons and - without Windows 98 compatibility mode - the shift buttons.

The reason I did not notice it for that long is that I hold an extra mouse button in addition to shift. So that is another way in which the controls are different (the others are that the mouse works (for me, in combination with disabling desktop composition and visual designs,), and that it does not differentiate between the two shift buttons).

And then there is another important one: "special" keys have this property:without compatibility mode, you can hold the key inside the pause menu and when unpausing it instantly counts as held.

akward akward akward better strat: find a version that doesn't have caps lock getting released on mission pass bs also holding shift. what are you supposed to jump with then, ctrl WutFace ? my TAB doesn't work either. RIP >(

Germany

(right to shift, left to z) You could also use RShift for action. :D GL with the version thing, I only know of the 1.1 patch...

Edit: I just noticed that getting a new jump button into "muscle memory" is a problem. Also, I should know myself for other reasons. So I'll tell you about my results next weekend. If it works, I'll send you an iso. It likes to crash during Wear Flowers, don't know if it is due to hardware or sth else, like a scratch in the disc?

haha you ok bro? you feeling cool? i'm not the one who made the thread, i never made you look for workarounds to the problem, patrick. And i never exaggerated about it since with the PBs we all have it makes no difference whether we do this or not :D how about we get times that are actually even close to optimal first then come back to this topic? sounds good to me.

Germany

Read my edit, I have changed my mind.

For context, I originally said something like "I have little motivation to check if my version fixes your problems since I think you are exaggerating them".

I did not mean to cause that much offense, so I'm sorry for that. I just said what I thought. And I guess I was that harsh because I put in work and you dismissed it in an unkind way. I guess that just ruined my apology...^^ That's the price for honesty... No, I do not feel all above you or "cool" or anything.

And another edit. On second thought, I did not really put in much effort in relating to your problem in that post. So that's a point against me. I have some more thoughts - but I know I cannot think about this objectively, now that it is personal.^^ That's just not how the mind is designed. So what shall I do - just stop thinking, I guess. :D I'm fine talking with you about this or just pretent nothing happened.

does \ drop calls like caps lock? Since that would be a really comfortable key for me to hold while driving on my keyboard setup.

Germany

Yes, Anti-Streaks

I tried ICK 5 times with caps lock on v2, no problems.

It is probably this version, judging from the cover. Contact me if you want to have an iso, you still need a cracked exe, though, ofc. http://www.gameware.at/info/space/Grand+Theft+Auto%3A+San+Andreas+%28Englisch%29?emphasize=MS-CDGTSAE

Here is a way to - maybe - give your poor pinky a break and maybe fix this problem: I have not tested this well, so you should not use it in runs you care about. You get two keyboard layouts, preferably the cheat friendly QWERTZ/QWERTY is not one of them. Then, I'll list all key down and up events, let's say "<" is your call button (the button right to shift on French AZERTY).

  1. < down
  2. switch layout
  3. < up
  4. switch layout

That way < counts as held down forever - until you press and release < again. Same for all other buttons that

  1. you held when switching the layout
  2. have different "characters" assigned in the layouts you use.

I personally use Dvorak Left and switch to QWERTY(US) and back for the trick, using the button (instead of Alt-Shift or Ctrl-Shift) My call holding button is the button next to

^ That feels like cheating to me.

Germany

Hmm ok, so how about a pedal?

Haha, I think that is what I am going to use. The space bar of an old keyboard. :D Let's see if it works as expected - should.

Edit: it seems to me there is no comfortable and safe way to use a foot keyboard... I think I will still use it.
