Hi!
Recently I was made aware of a beta branch that allows access to version 4.4.2.1. This is of extreme importance, as 5.0 made a lot of speedrun tech completely impossible to preform, and version 4.4.2.1 is much more fast, and subjectively enjoyable to run. As stated, you can access this by inputting "takemebackthere" in the Steam private branch code entry. As always though, back up your save. I am not responsible for any effects that may occur when transferring versions.
With this, I've gone through and did some more changes. Any% chapter names have been reverted to pre-5.0 names, and the Intended% category has been rebranded to Current Patch. As stated, this is a run of the game on any version 5.0.1 or beyond. Because of the removal of various exploitable bugs in 5.0, it now effectively has the same rules as the old Intended%, unless something develops in modern versions.
All currently uploaded runs will stay on their respective any% category. Now that we have access to the most usable version for speedrunning, there's no point in removing them.
I'm still currently working on various changes, but everything of importance has already been done. Likely, by the time you see this, everything will have been fully updated. Have fun!
Hi!
I've gone and changed a lot of things to account for changes made in the (not so recent) 5.0 update. Notably, all of the categories have been renamed to their new chapter equivalents. There's also a new Chapter 3 category to account for its split. Additionally, shift-enter is no longer a thing that exists in the current version in the game. If modding for the game ever gets allowed, I (or someone else) may make a patch that readds shift-enter and other speedrun tech like the Betweenspace speed up bug, but currently that's not an option. I'm still wondering what to do with the current runs. I've left them untouched for now, but when a new run gets submitted, I'll take a look at them further. If you have any ideas, feel free to DM me at @plixona on Discord!
Hi!
A new category was added for those interested: Betweenspace. As the name suggests, its a speedrun that aims to collect all items in Betweenspace as fast as possible, as measured by the things in the "Betweenspace Progress" card. If people see fit, I can add a section that allows for people to start after game completion, however, that would require a way to finish the game without doing part of Betweenspace, currently impractical.
Additionally, because of the new category, I had to strictly limit the Chapter selection to Any%, rather than both Any% and Intended%. I couldn't do both because speedrun.com doesn't allow that for some reason? If someone actually does submit an Intended% run, I will add them back.
Sawayoshi had also been doing some Soundscan EP speedruns (i.e., reaching 10k EP as fast as possible). They've even been on GDQ with these. If people want it, I could also add a Soundscan category.
The game will be leaving early access on June 23rd of this year. Presumably, several debug tools will be removed, primarily shift+enter. Shift+enter is critical to the any% speedrun (saving dozens of minutes), and the only primary thing currently defining the run. I'm curious as to how you all would react to a potential board wipe, or any% removal (since there would be no difference between the two). If you have a thought, feel free to make a forum post about it. Or DM it to me on Discord (plixona). You can always do that.
If I receive no input, my current thoughts are to kind of archive the current runs (if that's possible) and rename Intended% to a new Any%. My opinion could definitely change, since there's still two months until the event happens. Or shift+enter could not be removed, and if so, nothing would need to happen. We'll see, but I would like additional thoughts even if no one else really runs this game.
