I've noticed no differences in load times between gamecube and wii
Yeah I forgot to order it right lol, no problem and FALCON PAWNCH
I'm interested in running this game but I see the leaderboard is undergoing construction. As a series moderator for star fox who has added sub categories to 2 of the games, I can definitely say you can really benefit from them.
How to do it?
Essentially, the default view would be EXACTLY the same as on the left side. The real magic occurs once you get into character specific runs (for IL's)
Each character is an IL, so this will be your main categories for IL's.
The first Sub Category would then be Difficulty. AFAIK, there are 3 leaderboard difficulties currently in use here (Very easy, Normal, Very Hard), so these 3 difficulties would be under the "Difficulty" sub category variable.
The second Sub Category would then be "Version." AFAIK, only NTSC-U and NTSC-J are current "versions" allowed (probably called "English" and "Japanese" for ease of access for other submitting runners).
That would essentially make leaderboard hella clean looking. For reference, Star Fox (SNES) had 13 categories and looks like this, and Star Fox Assault had an IL leaderboard w/ 9 main categories
SF1 with Sub Categories - http://www.speedrun.com/sf SF Assault with Sub Categories (for both IL's and full game) - http://www.speedrun.com/sfassault
So it would be Sub categories consisting of "Console (N64, Wii VC, WiiU VC, Ique) / Emulator (PJ64 <specific version>)".
Console / Emulator (simplified)
I'm more against the means of emulator because saying it's too expensive to get a console to run is never a valid reason to make a leaderboard a mockery, but subcategories make it a bit more friendly. It lets us default to legitimate means of running the game, and allow emulators to be there without hiding them by default. Figure out what emulator would be best to use, and have others respond here so we can see if emulators should be used.
My opinion:
I'd honestly recommend a subcategory for each platform since this game is ran differently w/ lag reduction strats per console used. The only drawside to this is someone could be epic and claim all the console records, which defeats the purpose of having the subcategory. It's interesting to note that some runs state "N64 World Record," so why not make this a thing?
If this can't happen, then I say leave leaderboard as is, but force emulated runs to be hidden by default. I don't think runners who can't submit to a leaderboard are prevented from running the game. Anyone can use emulator to speedrun without submitting to a leaderboard, but a leadeboard is meant to be somewhat restrictive on what runs can be submitted. We don't allow turbo controllers because it's unfair to regular runners, emulation is another reason because it skews times.
tl;dr My opinion is Sub categories for each platform, otherwise keep leaderboard as is but force emulated runs to be hidden by default.
Wasn't good enough for MLG, suck at fighting games, so speedruns. Was also quite fun to see my favorite game ever (Yoshi's Island) get beaten so quickly, so that kinda reeled me in here.
He streamed a week ago, but in either instance is it really hard for Moderators to visit the site at least once a week or every other week? I'm a series mod for Star Fox, and I remove inactive mods. That little sword next to a name isn't meant to be a battle scar or something, it's meant to be responsibility on this site. That's just my take on inactive / negligable moderation
zallard tested black arwing and it does more damage output and has larger charged shot blast radius. Unsure if bombs are affected, but if you run any%, use black arwing. Downside to Black Arwing is it takes more damage from enemies
heck yeah
Um, I'm saying this because I'm pretty sure Nintendo is going to release more amiibos for this game in future. For now it may not mean anything, but it'd be way less work if it happens to do nothing. I'm banking on them releasing some that give extra content, so better now than having to fix a mess later
I was asking to delay adding times because I've been the one making the leaderboards w/ sub categories and didn't want to have to re-add a ton of runs because things have been found out afterwards which means extra senseless work. I have a general idea on how to make the leaderboard but lack the means ¤points at pottoww¤ to begin making the changes.
So for now, here's how I see the leaderboard:
Any%, All Missions (needs discussed), 100%
Sub cats: Amiibo, no amiibo
To do later, define these properly with rules (later thread)
I'm just saying IGT preferred at this point and time, but if it turns out to be bullshit like Assault where not every version is equal with IGT, then we'd need to have RTA. For now though, it's not required to show RTA but having a standard will help just in case we deem IGT to be bad
AFAIK RTA would be irrelevant in this instance but we do need to set an RTA standard timing method JUST in case something happens to the IGT down the road. I would vote we do how sf64 does it, which is gain control to lose control.
Yeah I agree there should be a donation thing for custom icon, or at least a publicly announced "How to get custom icon next to name"
VBA is a commonly used inaccurate emulator, Pokemon community stated it even inaccurate for IGT purposes for pokemon sapphire. It's as common as saying ZSNES and PJ64 are inaccurate.
Le gasp, so this is looking like star fox command? I mean, what makes the routes unique?
