bro really got it first try lmao
i will maybe come back this summer. cool new strats tho :D
Hey, PCSX2 is allowed! Sorry for the late response lol.
Dolphin is probably better since it has slightly better performance, but PCSX2 works great and is how I started running the game. It's also probably the best PS2 emulator lol. Just check out the brief rules - there really isn't much to worry about.
Actually a huge run dude it's crazy how far this game has come. I remember how hard I grinded for sub mr.challenge and you're getting damn close to that Lol.
IMO we 100% combine wii/ps2 but just have it say Wii or PS2 on the side, then give emulator a seperate leaderboard.
Also for some stages we should have seperate leaderboard for different versions of the game (like for Ultimate Decisive Battle, Frieza's Ultimate Transformation, Vegeta's Curiousity, and Strongest vs. Strongest you do more damage on the Japanese version and for Conclusion you do more damage on the USA version)
Ok, so now that levels is out how do you guys think we should time it?
I think we should start timer after the loading screen fades to black (as soon as the screen is fully black timer starts) and end timer on KO like the actual run.
Also, based on that timing strategy, don't you guys think we can combine the PS2/Wii leaderboards at least? Maybe even emulator, but the problem with emulator is that a lot of moves that lag on console don't really lag on emulator. Lmk what you guys think.
It's up to the mods, I have no issue having something like that. Also if a beginner is having trouble with a stage they could see some of the optimal strategies. I think honestly if it's in the category extensions part (like tournaments are) it isn't too big of a deal.
I can understand the want for differentiation, however in reality changing to hard/normal does not change the gameplay much. Rather, the strategies just become more inconsistent and you have to deal with more vanishes/z-counters (the most frustrating part of these runs).
Plus, you have to consider how popular those categories would be, and considering that the gameplay would just be a more frustrating version of easy mode, I doubt it would come close to regular Any% or All Sagas.
Also, I would say the run is already plenty difficult on Easy (at least if you're aiming for sub-hour). IMO it's not necessary but it also wouldn't hurt I guess.
Also just want to add in that there is in game time for everything under "Ultimate Battle" so timing pauses and stuff wouldn't be an issue.
The loading times in that video are about 6s 900ms lining up pretty much exactly with me, sill_i_am, marlon chaves, and mr challenge.
Gustavo, in the video I tried out using the same setting as him and the loading times were very similar. I'm pretty sure he used it but I have no way to get in contact with him Lol, hope he sees this post.
I've also found that this setting exists on the Dolphin emulator as well.
If you right click a game and click on 'Properties' there is an option to "Speed up Disc Transfer Rate". This should be kept as the filled in box or unchecked because if it is on (checkmark) then loading times become much more variable on your computer and sometimes I would get loading times of 1 second and sometimes of 3 seconds, much faster than in the video.
I know this is an issue that many speedrun games and moderators find a huge headache (probably the reason there was no emulator category in the first place) but this time I did the work for the mods so they don't have to waste as much time.
Before commenting make sure to watch the following video:
So after watching the video what are you guys thoughts? Should 'Enable Fast CDVD' be allowed for everyone?
Something I forgot to mention in the video is that I believe is that if this rule is changed, then Volpescu's tournament runs should be taken off of the leaderboard because it is impossible to get that good of a time without the 'Enable Fast CDVD' (at least in World Tournament, and he has a large advantage in the other tournaments as well). Reminder that this is nothing against Volpescu, but rather to make the game more fair for everyone.
Also one more thing to add is I think that if you want a really good time you should shift towards the Wii emulator due to the faster loading speeds in general (and more consistent because Dolphin is probably the best emulator for any console).
P.S: I probably put way too much work into this but I hope it was easy to understand. If you are confused please ask about anything!
I think a leaderboard for each individual level would be a bit much, I think it would be better to have an individual Saga leaderboard (Saiyan saga, frieza saga, etc.)
I personally think it would be better to have no items, but it's up to you guys.
Update for the tournament category:
I did a run for each tournament with these basic rules: Start timer on the Character color select, end timer on the last KO. No items allowed For yamcha game show that you have no items in your custom before starting the battle (In yamcha game the custom sets can be chosen randomly)
I didn't know about the Cooler thing but the fat buu on the "Conclusion" stage I already mentioned. Also, you do less damage overall with every character on that stage (including Goku).
