It really depends on the game. Some games/series allow emulators (Dolphin included), while some don't.

I would submit, but unless I manage to learn a new game on time (and actually get good at it), the only game I could really submit at the moment is around 6 hours long. xD

The mods usually will look through the forums of the games that they moderate, and (most of the time) they'll consider the suggestion(s). Now, they won't always add the suggested category to the game, but they usually will look through and at least consider it. If you don't get a response from the mods within a couple weeks, try contacting them via their social media (usually Twitter and/or Twitch is the best).

This looks interesting! I might end up submitting, but I have two questions:

  1. What's the difference between this and the other Valuethon? (Just out of curiosity. I am a bit confused about it).
  2. Is there a limit on how long each run should be? I ask because there are some games that take several hours to run, and it'd be good to know whether those are allowed or not.

Welcome to the community, EDav1123!! I wish you the best of luck on your runs! :)

One video capture software that a lot of speedrunners (including myself) use is OBS (Open Broadcasting Software).

Huh, looks interesting. Last time I did an RPG speedrun was several months ago with "Eternal Senia". I'll definitely give this one a shot.

Sounds good! Can't wait! :D

That is true, but not everyone can afford a capture card, so they work with what they currently have.

Welcome to the community, Noxter!! I wish you the best of luck on your runs!! :D

For video editing, it really depends on how professional you want the video to appear (and how much you're willing to spend for it). If you want decent quality (or don't have a ton of money to spend), Windows Movie Maker or AVS Video Editor are good, and Sony Vegas Movie Studio is around $50, and helps with more professional effects. But if you want to get as professional as possible, I'd recommend Sony Vegas Pro and After Effects (note: Sony Vegas Pro costs anywhere between $1500 to $4000, depending on the version).

If you have any other questions (or if I misunderstood your question, which is possible, haha), please feel free to ask.

"Eternal Senia" is a pretty decent one.

it really depends on how comfortable you are on the runs. If you're comfortable with doing a full run, then by all means, go for it! Your first run will very likely be rough, but as time goes on and you keep practicing, you'll get a lot better at it.

The best places to look for tips for speedrunning are the forums for the game you're wanting to run (which, in your case, is OOT). Here's a link to the forum: http://www.speedrun.com/oot/forum It also helps to look through the guides that runners have put together, to help with the routing, and just the overall gameplay mechanics. Here's the link to that: http://www.speedrun.com/oot/guides And another good thing you can do is watch the current WR of the game, since that run will have the most optimized strats for the game at this current time. Here's a link to the current WR of OOT (currently held by Torje, if you're doing any%):

And lastly, the most important thing to do to find tips is to ask the community. I personally don't run the Zelda series, so I can't help out much, but try asking in the OOT forums. And I wish you the best of luck!! :)
