So for some reason I really like this game and decided to buy both rebirth and the afterbirth DLC. At the moment I really have no idea how to start playing this game. Here's what I know and hopefully people on here can help me with what I do not know/what I need to know.

I know I have to unlock certain items/characters. Most of the good items have to be unlocked and to be able to play as anyone but isaac you have achieve certain things in game. I have the pastebin about starting items, so I know what I'm looking for on first floor treasure rooms. And that's all I know (in retrospect I don't know anything).

So uh yeah, what do I need to learn? I'm assuming I need to memorize what items do what so that I can get a good build. That's the only thing I can think of, but yeah... any help would be appreciated.

Sidenote: I know I have to unlock the starting items to be able to use them, but what other items should I unlock? Should I unlock all of them or is that not necessary? Sidenote2: I have yet to decide what kind of speedrun I want to run for this game, putting this here in case anyone asks.

Hello! So I'm kind of new to speedrunning, and decided to go ahead and start with my favorite pokemon game series (mystery dungeon). I looked for information online about how to speedrun this game, but all I could find was for previous installments in the PMD series. I've beaten the game in its entirety (main story wise +epilogue), so I'm open to suggestions on how to speedrun this game.

The only real questions I would have would be:

  1. At what point would we stop the timer? I've seen that in other PMD games you stop when the credits roll, and personally I dislike that. Mostly due to the way PMD stories end when the credits role. There is that feeling of not finishing since your partner leaves (spoilers). What I was thinking was continuing the game until the point at which your partner returns, so that the story ends in its entirety.
  2. Would we be allowed to use the wonder mail codes that give you in-game items? From looking at the list over on gamefaqs (NA version), I'd only ever want the Orans, wands, and reviver seeds, as well as a TM or 2 depending on my playable characters.

I am just posting this here because when I mentioned in my introductory post that I wanted to speedrun a new game like PSMD, the personw who commented said that it'd be best for me to make a post here as to what I should do. Any help would be appreciated :)

So yeah, I blame searching "yoshi's island" on youtube a few weeks ago for getting me into speedrunning (agdq 2014 tri-hex 100% run). So now I want to learn all I can about speedrunning so I can be able to speed run some games that I enjoy playing. some examples would be etrian odyssey untold, the pokemon mystery dungeon series, and of course yoshi's island. i found the gba version of it in elementary school and loved it ever since :). So since I want to get into speedrunning, I have a few questions that hopefully the people here on the internet can help me out with.

  1. I've seen people have a timer on the side of their screen that keeps track of their time, goals, etc. What i this and is it useful?
  2. Where do I go to find information about speedrunning certain games. I know there is a yoshi's island speedrunning wikia, but is there a place like that for all games?
  3. What do I do if I want to speedrun a new game? Cause I want to speedrun pokemon super mystery dungeon (just came out in english friday), but no it's so new there's probably no information about what speedrunning the game entails (i.e. information from question 2).

Please help me out, cause I've always wanted to speedrun, just never had to drive until I saw someone speedrunning yoshi's island :)
