I posted my routing for low% in the first thread, getting only 11 stars and 2 items I think this is the limit for humans, but I also have found a theoretical way to do it with only the bomb defuser.
This would be absurdly difficult, I have barely made any progress even with save states and TAS tools but it may be possible.
I will post updates here in case any crazy people want to try and make this human viable.
A new category requires 2 or 3 runs to show that there is "competition" :P
If you keep missing it, then at some point you just gotta keep buffering. The best way to tell when you have enough speed is to unpause when marios body is below the quality box, that way you don't have to pause a specific amount of times or pause more than you need.
I think the easiest way to do it is to have sequence breaks and no sequence breaks versions of the category. Sequence breaks doesn't have much that needs to be done, the only real problem with no sequence breaks is if sequence breaks in dungeons are allowed or not, because I that would drastically increase the item requirements (e.g. lens of truth required for shadow temple, metal required for water temple), and that would be the real challenge for rule making.
For sequence breaks allowed: I submitted a low% run to the any% no rha category since there is no leaderboard for it yet. The rules shouldn't be TOO hard to define based on what this run does.
You need the vanish cap for final bowser (even tas uses it, it's just hard to see) ((MAYBE it's possible to use bombs to hit the shell back but it would not be rta viable in the slightest)) and obviously we need bomb defuser. My run does not use any of the fountains because I think they are what give you extra stars, and I would consider them collectables, none of them are necessary so ye none used.
Unless some crazy tech is discovered to not need vanish cap, I think this is the lowest it's gonna go. So 10 shines, 2 items-> bowser for sequence breaks allowed.
I also have no idea how to use the codes with mupen, I can't find anything that shows it working with anything other than mobile mupen... everything else I find seems to imply that it doesn't work.
Also, If it's first frame of full white fading to the actual level, then the time was 15.500 (my original timing was 15.15). So either way my timing was inaccurate but it's not hard to retime when I know what I'm doing, I just don't know what I'm doing.
As far as I'm aware 2 runs is still the requirement for a new category, so Heflito, upload your runs, cuz I'm practicing too.
According to the current rules the only cage we can't skip is bowsers. I have been practicing for 8 star and found many improvements, 2 of which being a much more consistent cage skip for w3 and w5, around 70-90% success rate and it's only been a day since I found them so this is with virtually no practice at all.
Are there stars that would be faster if we could skip w3 and w5 cages?
Yeah as an rtabc runner, I can tell you they are pretty much impossible to pull off except in very specific circumstances. Even if you can get the speed, it has to be in a specific direction and mario has to be facing that same direction before the jump.
aaaand then you have frame perfects :)
Yeah, it looks like you're permanently stuck in flying cam but zoomed out a bit lol (that still exists in the others tho it's just a little bit less)
also I found the place where the camera I describe is. It's actually listed on romhacking.com as a completely different hack (even though it's not). It's called smsr with parallel camera. I seem to have gotten a different version than what is on there but it is the same camera.
I thought I was on version 1.01, but it was actually 1.1 or something like that. The camera is very different from all the other versions that I have tried, and I really like it. I've just tried 1.0 1.01 deluxe and final from romhacking.com and all of them seem to have the same camera that I hate.
romhacking.com also says that the deluxe version has a completely different camera and lighting system. I can see the lighting system is obviously different, but the camera isn't noticeably different at all.
Is there a speedrun legal version that has a cardinal lakitu cam and uses the dpad to adjust the camera in small increments? (dpad isn't actually that important but I have a feeling it's there because of the lakitu camera system)
Isn't there a way that runs can be differentiated while still being under the same category, sorta like emulator vs n64? maybe that could do it because both points are valid and very good points.
(Why is it that le any% WR holder is a moderator in some form for like 90% of the src leaderboards? just wondering, anyways:) just here to confirm that I have accepted this role lol
