No worries and this isn't pointed directly at anyone specific, I'm just trying to point people in the right direction to answer their own questions. We actually get a lot of the same questions pretty frequently and it kinda clutters everything. If something isn't answered, then by all means go ahead and post, but a lot of questions should be answered there and we keep it up to date when things change.

Please click the View Rules button on the leaderboard FIRST before posting questions. Many times, your questions on what's allowed, timing methods and all that good stuff are there.

Threads asking questions that are already answered in the rules will be deleted.

Clicking the View Rules first is good practice for any game you wish to speedrun, not just SMB1.

Deleted the useless comments.

What are you using to split the video between the monitor and the capture card? If you're using an unpowered splitter (meaning it's not some device that gets power from an electrical outlet) that very well may be your problem.

The mistake has been resolved.

Most speedrunning communities (including this one) do not permit the use of U+D or L+R and that option to do it is normally disabled by default in most reputable emulators.

We can't legally do that, sorry.

I think it would be okay. Just note that in the comments if/when you submit.

Re: Mesen We ended up banning the emulator and you can read about it in this thread: https://www.speedrun.com/smb1/thread/5koox

Re: Game & Watch The ROM is not the same and there are some differences. Infinite lives, faster pause buffering are a couple.

You can't directly attach them to your run. You'd have to upload them to something accessible (Google Drive for example) or send them to a mod over Discord. However, unless we ask you to provide them, I wouldn't worry about sending them with each run. Keep them on your computer for a while in case we do ask for them though.

@EvaTheWingdale How about we just let him play what he wants? Playing what you're feeling is always better than feeling forced to play something you don't want to play at that time.

To avoid getting the lag frame ever: add 500 to your score before hitting the bullet bill. If the number under the R is 0, 1 or 2 or the number under the I is 0, you won't get the lag frame.

Colorado, USAroopert834 years ago

Yes, we do allow them.

Colorado, USAroopert834 years ago

I disagree. SMB1 players are able to hit multiple sequences of frame perfect inputs on emulator (i.e. FPG) and there are a lot of players who have learned how to do that. I consider that much more difficult than both of the tricks you mentioned.

SM64 is split up because the game performs differently (i.e. lag) between N64/VC/Emulator. A number of NES/SNES emulators are cycle-accurate, so you don't have that discrepancy here.

I don't understand how this change would renew interest or provide a new challenge.

I mean, two of the three questions are answered simply by clicking the "View Rules" button on the category.

Regarding the metronome though, sure you can use that.

It's listed under the game boxart to the left, but yes, we do accept it.
