He may or may not care about things like getting a lot of attention for running the popular version. Some people are in this for recognition and glory, some are in this purely for fun and some are somewhere in the middle.
Time has been fixed. The video I was using was 30fps so a frame was lost in either the beginning or the end. I got the 60fps video and corrected the time.
Yes, we can verify our own runs. I personally try to avoid verifying my own runs, but I've done it. I know all the mods pretty well and I'd doubt that someone would be trying to slip something under the radar. Also, if something is weird or incorrect, it seems there's a decent amount of you guys out there looking for errors and will bring it up. If you do find something wrong, by all means, bring it up.
Going for FPG may not really be worth it at this point.
BBG will softlock the game.
I will apologize for not being around for the last few weeks. I'm involved with starting a side business and it's been keeping me extremely busy. So busy that I haven't had time to even look at SRC, stream or even watch streams. I'm gonna try to knock out some when I can, but as blubbler put it, we do need active people to verify runs. When I do go away, the queue builds up and sometimes it seems like I'm the only one who does verify runs. I at least verify a very large percentage of them anyway.
I am hoping that we will get this issue resolved sooner rather than later, but we do move at the speed of the American government, so I can't really put a lot of expectations on when that will be. There's only so much I can do by myself.
It's appreciated for those of you who have been patiently waiting. For those of you who have voiced your concerns/frustrations and have been waiting for quite some time...I don't blame you.
Here's the rundown of the options that you have.
-
Original console + CRT TV. This is generally regarded the best setup for speedrunning and is the most responsive to your inputs. However, since you're in Europe, getting a console and a CRT that are both NTSC may be difficult or expensive unless you willingly want to run on PAL which is 17% slower and has different physics. Also CRTs are large and some people don't have the room for that. This again is considered by many to be the best setup, but it's also the biggest pain to acquire.
-
Emulator. We accept runs on several different emulators and is perfectly fine. Many top players do their runs on emulator. There will be input lag that you may need to adjust to.
-
Wii/WiiU Virtual Console. The framerate is slightly slower on these platforms, so while running on these is perfectly fine, just realize that you're going to lose a bit of time over console/emulator. There's input lag on this as well.
-
NES Classic/Mini. We currently do accept runs on this, however, there have been some questions about what the framerate is. It is definitely slower than console, but not sure how much exactly at the moment. There's input lag on this as well.
I advise you to stay away from clone consoles such as the Retron consoles. They are horribly inaccurate and runs are likely to be rejected by using those. Save yourself some pain and dismiss those, in my opinion.
Also, realize that you will need a capture card for all of those options except for emulator. Well, you can point a webcam at the TV (and we do have a few who do that) but it's not recommended.
The number I gave you is an estimate. I don't have the capability to get it super accurate.
I talked to Cujo the other day and he mentioned that SNES Classic is banned for Yoshi's Island because it doesn't emulate lag properly.
Maybe there's something to that.
We have considered adding one or two to help out, but we will get in touch with those we feel are the best fit.
Being a moderator of this game requires a lot and we would likely only consider those who have a long running familiarity with the game.
- Ability to time runs to exact milliseconds using spreadsheets, math and images for patterns
- Ability to know when runs are suspicious.
- Ability to know what looks like natural gameplay and what looks like TAS gameplay.
- Ability to notice potential splices or other oddities in submissions.
- Ability to keep tabs on people and know who has submitted cheated or suspicious runs in the past.
- Ability to detect the use of inaccurate emulators or clone consoles visually or audibly.
We are the same group of moderators for SMB1, SMB2J and SMBCE.
I've told you. Twice, lol.
Well, I mean I responded to your forum post, but I don't know if you read it.
Aside from Twitter, Discord and Twitch are other ways you can get in contact with me or most of the other mods.
There isn't and unless you play at a high level, you're not really gonna have any clue what's coming. It's better to learn how to deal with the bros on the fly.
There's things below my profile picture for ways that you can get in contact with me or anyone else.
<-- <-- over that way <--
I've kinda sat quietly on this for a bit and honestly this is something that we should just let it be, and here's why:
If the accounts were all deleted/deactivated, then they were all likely willfully done so.
Maybe he wants to start fresh, maybe he feels he spends too much time online and need to focus on other things in life right now. Maybe he got doxxed. There's a lot of valid reasons why someone would go off the grid.
Since it seems that this was willfully done, I feel we should respect that and give him some space. I don't really think that trying to hunt him down and solve the mystery of what happened is going to do a lot of good.
If he wants to update us he probably will, and if he doesn't, well he doesn't. Maybe he will come back and maybe he won't. None of us know for sure and it's not our duty to find out. Sure, it's unfortunate, and I'm not trying to be insensitive here, but it feels like this is turning into a wild goose chase.
Kirua's sticky post on this forum explains it.
I've verified about 35-40 runs since yesterday. There's 13 left in the queue and most of them are awaiting decisions from group discussion. The CE board is probably the lowest priority one between the 5 main leaderboards I moderate.
I'm not opposed to onboarding a verifier or two, however, it's not as simple as just being able to retime runs properly.
The reset or power on needs to be in the video before the run starts. That is stated in the rules and has been for quite some time.
Sorry, but I don't know what else to say. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
If I were to run an any% tournament I would likely make each match best of 3 or best of 5.
Someone can handle that one. I probably won't spearhead another tourney until later this year or next year most likely. It has gone well, but it takes a lot of time and effort to put together.
It's pretty minimal for me, yeah, but I have noticed it.
