Does this use left+right on the map screen? If so, it violates the global restriction of no non-standard stock controller functions and isn't allowed on the leaderboard.

That being said, feel free to post the video and discuss the route here. Some people are interested in non-standard runs and may even compete with you, even if it's not going to be on the leaderboard directly.

Use this thread to bring up anything pertaining to the game that you'd like to see updated/changed/re-worked (category discussion, order, rules, leaderboard criteria) This is the place to make statements on a sort of permanent record (i.e. not a discord discussion)

wiki: https://yoshispeedruns.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

discord: https://discord.com/invite/cdUzR3Z

Recent Changes: 6/x/21:

 • blk unmodded
 • icterus supermodded
 • leaderboards split between snes and VC (snes classic/switch)
 • some category rules rephrased

Older changes: 10/26/18:

 • Modded Brooklyn

 • De-modded David and arne due to inactivity

 • Removed / Edited some old guides and splits

 • Created a board for meme categories: https://www.speedrun.com/yiext

 • De-modded Trix and Drakotou due to inactivity

 • Modded Davidb and Poahr

 • Made Warpless the default category to reflect recent activity

 • No Reset restriction removed from 100% and Warps per community vote

 • Added a "Restrictions" variable (temporary) to Warps and a "Ruleset" variable to 100%

 • Renamed No ACE to "Beat Bowser" and removed the no ACE restriction (volpe's fault)

 • Established proof requirements

Todo:

 • add updated splits / guides (current ones really need to be nuked)
 • add / practice hack / UFO is dead

Suggestions, questions, etc?

Considering the category arbitrarily bans other stuff besides resets it doesn't really make any sense to modify such an established category at this point. Nothing's stopping you or anyone else from running 100% without restrictions (Andy_Kuma already did a bunch of ILs and No Restrictions is added to the IL pages for relevant stages).

I agree banning resets is arbitrary/slow/dumb but so is running a collection category in the first place

North Carolina, USAmt8 years ago

Finished the IL submissions - report any errors here, or on the discord

edit: also changed 1-1 warp variable to "Restriction" subcategory and added "No Restrictions" to applicable 100% levels where 1-1 warps etc are faster than the standard rules. Just check out the pages for the stages with warps, i think it looks better

North Carolina, USAmt8 years ago

yeah definitely check out the GBA low% ILs and see if that's something you're into, seeing some updated ones would be cool!

GBA always being equal or lower really does kill it sadly, along with some red coins in the SNES version being VERY difficult to skip (1-4, 2-4 for example)

I'm personally not against adding this, but there would have to be a good number of seriously quality ILs already done imo

North Carolina, USAmt8 years ago

Objective: get all the levels in the IL table filled out using the wiki table so we can lock the old wiki

Changes:

 • Nuked "All Coins"
 • Adjusted "1-1 Warp" variable to only be an option on any% stages where warping is faster than completing the level normally. Now required, default is "No"
 • Adjusted "Exact Frame Capture" variable to be required, default is "No". Don't change this to "Yes" unless you've specifically set up exact (30.0494i) frame capture. (Ask me for help if you're interested in this)
 • Re-timed and submitted all of my old ILs
 • Removed mods who haven't logged in for 6+ months to reduce clutter
 • Set the default full-game leaderboard category to "Warpless"
 • Changed 1-1 warp variable for IL levels into a subcategory for applicable levels for both Any% AND 100% (!!!)
 • Moved PAL warps runs to warps
 • Split up No credits warp runs into No ACE and Magical Journey subcategories in "Legacy Any%" (was the only misc category left so....)

To-Do: done, locking that wiki page

 • Add active people as mods if needed (e.g. submissions sitting unapproved for days) [b]

[b]nevermind, didn't know only mods could submit other's runs

Post questions, suggestions, etc

Considering the tutorial is played in 0 categories, i'm not adding it. If another mod wants to, have fun.
What prevented me "to hack the game files on medical kits / shotgun / accuracy" even while here on these results?
Who are you quoting?

On a serious note, I withdraw the accuracy accusation. Artifact rates are much easier to edit and increased rates have a much larger impact on the run, thus the focus should be on that.

I am not here to defend TheButtravage, if you have an accusation towards him, that's a conversation between the two of you.
Okay, mt76907, and now look at another of my proof:
One singular run of yours compared with one run from someone else is not "proof."

My artifact claims are based on a trend, not one singular run. It is a matter of prevalence, surely you understand the importance of aggregation in such a luck based game as this?

North Carolina, USAmt9 years ago

Let me list the benefits of file editing good luck in order of preference; stamina artifacts, shotgun enemies in sarco, enemy accuracy, medkit drops.

For anyone reading, this would be editing a config file to increase your chances, it doesn't mean unfavorable things CAN'T happen, it means you are way more likely to get "Good Luck". Especially when you grind out runs.

For the record: as long as it's an even playing ground, I don't care. This game is very hard to check for legitmacy, for example, if the community decides to allow a tier 3 stamina artifact of the 1st body for everyone that's fine. Just looking for a level playing field here. But you still need legitimacy checks, I'll make a video demonstrating this later.
---> Regarding cfg files. all you want Since I know 100% that I have not changed anything in the files. I am confident in its purity.
Meaningless statement
with regard to autosplitter: Since on my vods and vods TheStalkerVal, Client: Synchronizing lasts ~1,5 -2 sec, while on TheButtravage vods: Client: Synchronizing lasts ~ 6-7 sec. It still does nothing. In addition, if during boot - time stops, you can just use it in Sarcophagus. ---> Saved - loaded - run 10 meters - saved - loaded. Thus it is possible to pass sarcophagus without a medkit. Since at boot time with you falls attention Monolith. And they are more besides in the first seconds loaded - reload a weapon. It will RETARD strats.
Not sure if this is a translation issue or what. Do you know what an Load Remover does?

Synchronization isn't counted in the auto-splitter (and the game doesn't consider it a loading state, you can move/regain stamina during the sync screen). Please ask if someone can translate your response.
---> unless he provides a run with views of config files before the run I have already written about it.
i have not seen this? link please?
---> This requires mic audio to prevent splicing. mt76907, probably you do not know that not everyone has a separate house with a separate room, how in the USA.
We don't judge your living situation, trust me

There are many things you could edit, % for enemy to spawn with shotgun vs machine gun (this is the most obvious one since shotgun deals virtually no damage and I have seen PB of yours where literally every enemy in sarco has a shotgun). The focus is more on editing files in general more than one specific edit.

As far as ensuring legitimacy goes, If you're doing 6 hours of runs, show the file values and launch the game showing the path that has the files. I can make a video of this if it is confusing. This only has to be done at the beginning of your 6 hour stream or if your internet goes down.

I'm not watching hours of video, i'm going off of the stamina artifacts of your pbs, which is ridiculous given you only check 8 bodies. Go through the lengths to show legitimacy or not, up to you (and the mods here, if they consider it sufficient)

North Carolina, USAmt9 years ago

it's just an issue with how easy the game files are to edit. Either the community goes through lengths to show legitimacy or the game is forever seen as easily exploitable with no legitimacy checks. It's just how it is.

North Carolina, USAmt9 years ago

here's a section where he gets TWO flashes in once run.

that run died because he failed the tree jump in red forest, no luck involved

North Carolina, USAmt9 years ago

if you post a video at least link a timestamp

North Carolina, USAmt9 years ago

Is that so? Are there recordings of him losing runs to bad rng?

edit: are you aware what the rate is for stamina artifacts?

North Carolina, USAmt9 years ago

I formally accuse die_mann of editing cfg files to give higher chances of stamina artifacts and lowered enemy accuracy. Something like 7 runs in 2 weeks all with stamina artifact drops is beyond sketchy.

I propose:

A) Using the autosplitter for all times, now that there is a consistent autosplitter. Removing loads equalizes everything.

B) Adding a column for time without loads and having this column be the default sort

C) Removing all of die_mann's runs unless he provides a run with views of config files before the run, as well as launching the game from the same directory as the config files. This requires mic audio to prevent splicing.

I've been meaning to reply to this for weeks, sorry.

I tried for a few days and wasn't able to find a working pointer, haven't tried since then because I had other projects (and AGDQ submissions) that didn't require hours to narrow down addresses and do pointer scans. lol

Someone else put together a complete auto-splitter that used log files, it was working for TheButtravage but wasn't removing loads when I tried using it. Pointers work better and the code is way simpler, but they take longer to find.

Neither of these require patching, you just add the .asl file to your livesplit layout (log method requires copying a few other files to your game directory as well).

I might look again before AGDQ, but it's slow and incredibly boring so don't expect anything from me

North Carolina, USAmt9 years ago

How did you get the impression that the game was updated in any way? Virtual Console is just an emulator. Are you refering to post-processing effects like screen smoothing?

Submit to the GBA leaderboard, it doesn't make sense to compare runs of the GBA version with runs of the SNES version.

It's gotten to the point where load times make up a non-negligible part of the run, this isn't fair to runners with significantly higher loading times (thebuttravage).

I've started working on a autosplit script for Livesplit, at first it will just pause the timer during loads, but I'd like to have it start automatically when you exit the intro cutscene and split automatically when the ending cutscene begins. I'm not too interested atm in having all splits automated, personally, just because it's more work for me if I'm the only one working on it.

One thing to note: with the pointer I'll be using, Client Synchronization won't be included in load removal since you have character control (or can just stand still and regain stamina).

Thoughts?
