Good point!
Get it. Use it. It will just make sense ;)
Basically, you can choose different capture sources and arrange them how you want, within OBS (Open Broadcasting System...or is it broadcaster?) So, instead of organizing a timer and your windowed game and whatever else on your desktop and then recording your desktop, you can place things where it is convenient for you on your desktop and have them arranged in OBS to be recorded from OBS. OBS is a canvas where you place different sources.
Maybe you should just try it, unless you think it would be unsafe.
Wait, maybe I wasn't paying attention, but wouldn't Twisted Metal fit what you're into?
I was wondering why so many people are drawn to VBA for GB games, in the first place. I used it initially because I was playing GBA games and noticed the extra feature, but I don't suspect that GBA games are so popular that this is a commonality. But even for GBA games, I ended up moving to mGBA, so I couldn't figure out how people choose VBA as a starting point for GB games. Then I realized that it's toted on ROM sites as one of, if not the best emulator for GB games.
Could there be a way to propose removing VBA from those types of lists, at least on the major ROM sites? Does anyone have connections with anyone affiliated with one or more of them? I would argue that VBA isn't even the best for GBA games, let alone GB.
What is a demo? How does it differ from a recording?
Yikes, that link caused my reply's format to go haywire, and the edit button disappeared. Hope it's readable on your end :D
I'm on my phone and can't post many links, but if you search Google for "windowed mode", then the results are all relevant. A majority of them even pertain specifically to gaming. This is the first result, and it is fairly in-depth: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://www.ghacks.net/2014/05/04/force-fullscreen-games-play-windowed-mode/&ved=0ahUKEwiOtJrP5LvPAhXL4CYKHX2yCwUQFggcMAA&usg=AFQjCNGSBVTmD5F7_AUJQOUBOwp2x3yE1w&sig2=wQ0Ce52Bej-LPsnhxHiJzA
I use a program called "windowed borderless" (I think that's the actual name. It's the name of the shortcut, but I'll check it later, if no one else can help you before I'm able to check.) It's for windowed borderless, not windowed, but it serves the same purpose for me. I'm sure there are also programs that do just windowed. Again, I would look, but I'm on my phone.
Also, think about how beardedbusker welcomes new viewers to his stream. He always takes a moment--or even a whole run--to explain what the heck he's doing in the game. OTS may not be as clippy as the game you're thinking of, and it's a really short run, but there are a lot of interesting things going on that wouldn't be immediately apparent if he wasn't so gracious :D
I agree, though it is still helpful to also create a more generalized awareness.
Crash Team Racing is good. It's a rip-off, but not in a bad way.
I'm working up to it :D
I'm actually supposed to be racing a game this afternoon. Besides the occasional race--this being only my second--I don't yet stream regularly.
What do you think about using parts of a longer run as submissions for a shorter category, rather than using the exact same run in full? For example, timing a segment of a full run to post as an individual level.
If neither of you are familiar with that game, it might be helpful to look deeper. I'm also not sure how much of the run you two are actually watching. I say this because I saw one of the runners of the game mention in a different thread that the leaderboard itself is a joke that got out of hand. I can't personally verify why that statement was made, but it may point to something that us non-runners may not immediately be able to distinguish.
That could be because of the version that you use. I should have mentioned that I'm using the Windows version on Windows 10.
@tocaloni1 @Klashik
That's actually something that I've noticed with a lot of mods and games. I have seen many forum posts that have gone unnoticed for months, not to mention some of my own posts. There are many mods who don't know to follow a game in order to be notified of forum posts. It seems reasonable to make forum notifications an automatic, default (and dare I say mandatory?) feature for mods, rather than requiring the extra step of following the game. This is especially so, considering that one of the main ways that it is usually suggested to contact mods is through the forums.
Is VBA even worth using at all? When I play GBA games, using save states causes it to crash. Does anyone else experience these issues? Maybe it's different for game boy games.
This is perhaps slightly off-topic, but I no longer use VBA for GBA games. mGBA is better, for me.
Transfer the video to your computer, load it into a video editor, and use the time stamps. If the game mods require the time to be visible throughout the video, then ask if you can screen cap the starting and ending times from your video editor, as well. That seems reasonable to me, but you never know how strict a mod might be.
You can also play the video while using a timer on-screen and record your monitor with OBS or a similar software.
