Not another one of these threads. Why can’t people just look at the bloody forums to see if people have asked this question before?
sigh anyways, optifine is banned because it messes with mob spawns and allows people to mess with game mechanics in a non-vanilla way. The same problems don’t exist with Sodium.
The reason why it’s banned for 1.16+ and not earlier versions is because FPS-boosting alternatives don’t exist for pre-1.16. Sodium is only available for 1.16. If there were alternatives to optifine for earlier versions, optifine would be banned there too.
It’s not banned. Dynamic lighting is banned, not smooth lighting.
It’s ambiguous because this rule is still being discussed by the mods.
For now, the current recommendation is using the default (gamma 1.0), but you can use anything up to gamma 5.0.
@Mingura666 4 hours?? LOL, you should’ve reset long ago. Props to you for the stamina though, I don’t think I could sit in one world for 4 hours just to try and beat the dragon.
Also, it sounds like you’re probably going about things the wrong way. I strongly suggest that you watch a few videos of top speedruns to see and learn the right ways to get a much quicker time. Don’t be afraid to reset when you get a bad world, top runners reset all the time. It’s necessary if you don’t want to waste all your time doing a 4 hour long run. Ideally, all normal runs should be completed within an hour or so.
@cubing_cinematics is the 5 PB thing absolutely necessary? I believe I have 4 separate PBs at the moment and I’m doing my best to target a sub30 run next. Do I really need another 30+ PB before I can submit a sub30, or is that rule bendable?
Just set up an automatic IGT, it’s not that difficult.
Apart from obsidian as suggested by RowdyCat, you can also practice using waterlogged slabs, if you’re doing 1.14.4 since obsidian is harder to come by in that version.
@the_xdude that’s just a bad idea. If you’re going to have to go so far as get armor and potions just to kill a bloody dragon that can be finished in less than a minute with nothing but 5 beds, you might as well start a let’s play at that point.
And I definitely recommend using the Emma’s Epic End Practice map, it’s the most well-coded, customisable and well-designed one out there.
Also, to the OP, if you’re having trouble onecycling, learn to do an east-west headon perch before learning other types. It’s the easiest one to do. Once you’ve mastered how to time the explosions for that, you can move towards doing north-south perches and sideways perches.
Of course you can. Vanilla is in fact the best option for runs, assuming your computer can handle it.
Tbh, no reason why kids shouldn’t be allowed to submit their runs. Just let them have fun. My stand on pirating games is that as long as you intend on buying it at some point in the future, it’s all good. And this doesn’t give them an advantage - instead it probably gives them a disadvantage if anything.
Nobody cares about your “op” seed, it’s only relevant in RSG and will never be used again
I wouldn’t trust a user with zero submitted runs. It could be an ad.
I’ve been thinking about using rodrigo’s 8x8 texturepack because I like how it looks, but I’m unsure as to whether it will render my runs invalid (because this resource pack is designed to improve framerate at the expense of visuals).
The rules state that if optifine is used pre-1.16, render distance must not be altered to anything that isn’t available in vanilla. However I am unfamiliar with vanilla settings.
What is the minimum render distance permitted by vanilla in 1.14?
I have Sodium, Lithium and Phosphor all installed and I can confidently say that it is worse than Optifine. Optifine improves my frames to about 30FPS, while Sodium can only manage 20 at best. Both have settings to the very minimum. That’s the reason why I’ve restricted myself to running solely on 1.14. Until I can get a better laptop or computer, I don’t have any other option. And I think it’s selfish of you to ban optifine on pre-1.16 and kick half the people here out of the community. So you’re gonna kill your already niche speedrunning community because of runners who use optifine not for an unfair advantage but because they need it to even play properly? Doesn’t sound like a good idea to me.
@SprinkzMC you don’t need pearls for ocean travel
@ahmed54g you don’t need to kill any of the elder guardians. If done right, a monument can be raided in less than half a minute, with nothing but an iron pickaxe and doors (and maybe a cow, or one or two milk buckets). This is because the elder guardian doesn’t dong you immediately.
@SprinkzMC you don’t need two monuments to get enough gold for the regular village + monument strat. Instead you can trade with other villagers (I’ve tried this out and the best options are farmers’ wheat trade and fletchers’ stick trade) for the extra emeralds. If done right, you will end up with enough pearls (assuming you can triangulate well and don’t need like 20 or something silly). One time-saving strat I’ve tried successfully for village + monument runs is collecting tnt from buried treasure and using it to explode wood or hay bales while trading with the cleric.
Pretty sure you can use any hardware you want. You can run Minecraft on a supercomputer if you’re so minded. A numberpad mouse shouldn’t make a difference to the legitimacy of your run.
