@crasyfingers I read it somewhere, but do not recall where. If tests have been done, then I think by all means it should be added.
All Warps Deathless was previously a category but was removed in the great pointless purge of 2017
Not personally a fan of any of the other recent category suggestions
“Minus World” (with non-FDS in rules) vs “Minus World Ending”. 2 different categories :)
A question I have is if the game over manip is actually faster? If it's slower, it would be a lot less of a separate category thing. But it looks like only just this one run would be affected so why not do the cleanest thing and remove that run, change the rules, and go from there?
"Style" is a bit subjective and arbitrary for speedrunning
Since you are talking about setting examples for other games, I am putting my 2 cents worth in. Admittedly, this is coming from someone who isn't a main Contra runner - but just as a speedrunner in general, I shy away from any category rulings that stray too far into manufacturing a certain style of play vs. allowing what is possible in the game to be done. This especially in terms of death and game over abusing, which are both a standard part of speedrunning. That doesn't need to change in co-op runs.
That all being said, in SMB1, game over warping one player to the world the other player is on is indeed banned. But in that case the entire nature of the run is more affected than the SDA Contra run, which to me (subjectively) that run is actually quite interesting.
Thanks for opening the floor for this, will be interested to see the arguments. Would kind of hate to see historic runs retroactively removed because of modern rule changes in any game, though...
the timer speed is not the same as arcade for Switch
In 100 Quest, you would do Any%, then select and loop world 8/second quest 99 times. While this breaks the duplicate rule with both quests, it does present a neat long-form challenge. I am guessing like 5 hours?
For the warpless version, you would do a Warpless run then loop Second Quest Warpless 99 times. I estimate a good player could complete this in about as long as it took Dode to do 2016 Exit in SMW. Around 32 hours?
Some mods are stricter than others. I went ahead and verified the run (I had rejected it). In the future try to make a video of your accomplishment! There have been many cheaters lately
xelna just did the entirety of A Link to the Past - No Major Glitches blindfolded, sooo
1-2 I suppose is a bit special because of 1-2g, but it would be too much of a duplicate because of minus world category imo
Hey! You should also check out megamanleaderboards.com That is where you'll find more active leaderboards for mega man, including AC!
I think this has been done, and great idea
yep, you can use the final coin to get up to 1,000 if you don't collect enough. The route is actually pretty simple. I finished in 8-2. I did every coin heaven and every underground zone except 5-2, where going underground skips the more valuable coin heaven. Did hit every hidden coin block, and ofc tried to get as many coins as possible out of every multiple coin block.
Need a Multiple Yoshi for that! Would love to see this run though
i think the route is going to definitely have to go down every available coin cash pipe, every available coin heaven, all the 16 coin blocks and all the coins in levels. For 1000 in 1st you'd have to get most all of the possible coins i ¤think¤... i'm actually going to try it
Added!
What are your thoughts on 1,000 Coins Deathless? According to tasvideos there are 1245 distinct coins in game. I think an allowance to go into 2nd quest would be fine though. I'm not sure how viable actually getting 1,000 in 1st quest without dying would be
