@ConkyJoe89 the last zombie before you round the corner can spin and try to grab you, fail, and still the last zombie won't spawn in front of kendo's place.

its about taking the corner tight, and keeping your lines from the start well. don't go wide around the zombies and youre good.

I've restarted probably 500 runs and tested it so many times. (pc sourcenext 1 and 1.1 leon A normal and hard)

@excel86j

I've tested this hundreds of times. If you take a wide turn in one of the area when you start the game (meaning run wide around the first few zombies) then run wide around the corner, the zombie has a strong chance of spawning.

if you have good lines that don't go too wide, he will NEVER be there. i haven't had him spawn in my last 30 starts, expect yesterday when i was doing a pistol only hard mode run.

its not rng, its bad lines that makes him spawn in original mode.

fregg.. to your older comment, are flashes or grenades allowed in HG only. if they were, on chris's part then adding those in would solve this problem.

i would bet that with my choice of pistol type, not lemi, but v61 or m1911, that i could beat standard pistol only> chris part is the easiest part of that, pistol shots well time at red barrles and movement down pat and the laser shots are doable,

the only thing i see is that on VOS difficulty, Urias is going to need to be hit twice, minimum. im tempted to stream this tonight. I know standard can be done.. just got to avoid every fight possible cept bosses.

as far as the people that are doing NG pistol only. if you switch to v61 mid game or whenever, if you used that/ bought all the ammo possible, upgraded power, ammo cap, and fire rate. as well as ran away from as much as possible outside forced boss fights... i think ng pistol type only; standard could be done, and i think even hardcore would be no problem. if you sell every gun and ammo type except pistol, only fight what you need to (bosses) and trasition to v61 when you can, then upgrade while buying all pistol ammo and making pistol ammo

i think this is all doable. cept maybe vos. but who knows

maybe this is a dumb question, but how is this different to nexusmods "lazy FOV" mod or the other couple FOV mods ive seen on mod sites for RE8

I currently use lazy fov mod from nexus and i can edit FOV up to 150 (why would i ever go that high). I can also edit the aim down sights FOV as well to mimic a "scoped in" effect. if FOV tool is better, i want it forsure.

First off, thank you all so much, everyone in the speedrunning community for getting RE8 in order to start its speedrunning community on speedrun.com -- you guys are legends!

are you considering anything below by chance? Thanks for reading:)

I think a category for Pistol only should be made. and within that category i was thinking a subset of categories could be; NG (ng items/guns only) NG (ng items/guns only WITH infinite ammo) NG+ Pistol TYPE GUNS only (any pistol, no mag, no hancannon) NG+ Pistol TYPE GUNS only (no mag, no handcannon) with infinite ammo

and more subsets of those with difficulty. Specifically I would LOVE to see a Pistol Only NG+ any% Infinite ammo Village of Shadows run. At the same time I am interested in seeing how competitive and fast a category of runners doing the same thing, but on casual due to how much faster that could be in contrast.

its too much, i know. but they are just ideas. The first step and plenty enough of one would be adding a Pistol only category for NG and NG+ with casual and village of shadows as difficulties.

Moderators! - if myself, and enough others were willing to run and submit pistol only runs, would this be a possibility of seeing in the future of this games speedrunning sage?

this is a late response but as ive beaten both, there are 2 EXE files in the origin of species folders. one is labeled "HARD" that just means zombies are harder, do more damage and blah blah blah.

to answer your question tho, actually origin of species is considered a conversion mod. what you are thinking of is the Rebirth mod i think. but maybe not, although rebirth does include the "hard mode" that was called "nightmare mode" on the Dreamcast release. origin of species 1.7 is leons C scenario, combining both A and B and adding new monsters, guns, and more. also changes stuff up, adds item locations, all kinds. claire's is the 2.0 one and is the harder one for me. it too is her A and B scenarios combined, but also altered with new guns, monsters, and more. of the two, each have an "easy mode" and a "infinite ammo mode" as well as the normal origin of species mode. so three ways to play each new scenario. let me know what you have finished and if you ran them:)

if you beat all that, you should try the .exe from the origin of species mod that launched the more difficult mode. (same game, enemies are stronger, and do more damage)

it will prevent you from your best possible time, but only by 30 seconds-45 seconds at worst. maybe more.

i may be confused... but the top runners right now, i checked a few in NG+ and glitchless, and their livesplit pauses when they pause to switch to 30fps, then back to 120fps. meaning apart from fractions of fractions of a second (talking like the total ms of latency between the difference in fps back and fourth + any slowdown in AI action, like getting by enemies easier. that being said, not only is it not a substantial amount of time, but being able to consistently do that and get by the enemy is a time save, but its skill based because if you get stuck by enemy or grabbed before switching back to 120fps, you will then lose extra time due to the settings change...

To me i think the current system is one to stick with, as even Toast said above. Not to mention the precedent for switching framerate during a run, regardless of timer, has been set with RE2 remake. people would up their FPS and even lower render quality to max 120 solid during birkin fights. it is not something that the running community had control over then, and nor do we now. the devs made the game that way, and our precedence for what rules and regulations to set based on that should stay the same, if not be tweaked, possibly.

again, im new to speedrunning and re3R was my first ever game to run, and since ive only ran OG RE games. so I could be very wrong, and if i am let me know please. although, that is how i see the current situation.

No need yet to change the system as drasically as OP suggest. sry for any spelling errors, keyboard keys are super sensitive and doing double inputs
