Thanks for considering anyway, shame you can't join us.

Also this may not be a yearly thing, might end up being something we do a few times a year.

Hey everyone. The Point & Click speedrunning community has recently got together and decided to organise the First (of hopefully many) Speedy Adventures Marathon. Where many different runners in all sorts of P&C games will be taking part. However this game is not yet represented at that marathon and we need YOU to help us with that.

We are looking for someone to run and stream the game, doing either of the main catagory's (though preferably Any%, depending on who wants to help out) Skill level is not a huge issue although of course we would like to get the highest level of skilled runners possible.

This event is still a work in progress, but we are currently aiming for sometime in May of this year.

If you are interested please let us know by joining the Discord channel here https://discord.gg/FEp37FT. Sign up for run registration by entering your details at the link provided there, and also please use the doodle poll link to indicate your availability in May.

Thanks in advance runners.

Yes that is what it means, you have to look at dreads map at the point in the game you want to warp to. So including the set up as part of the run is doable but it would only involve loading up a save file, looking at the map and then resetting and starting a run. I don't think its important enough to include considering its so quick and easy.

United KingdomaWay0fLife7 years ago

Congrats Spade, and congrats on your new PB/WR

United KingdomaWay0fLife7 years ago

Here's my first Glitched run. I set up a warp to right after the LeChuck fight and just had to get through the dialogue to finish.

Does everyone think this is legitimate? I personally would rather include a lechuck fight with all his RNG as part of the challenge and experience of doing a run. But what say ppl?

United KingdomaWay0fLife7 years ago

Ok ignore all that crap, I just found out you can load savegames using Ctrl and 0-9 and I had a savegame at the EXACT point I "warped" to. I don't understand HOW i managed to hold down Ctrl while skipping dialogue, but it must be the reason.

United KingdomaWay0fLife7 years ago

I had the glitch happen to me last night, but it was not during dreads map, instead it happened during the first voodoo lady dialogue scene. And also it was during an Any% run, so it CAN happen outside of running Lite mode.

It just randomly happened while I was spamming though the dialogue, I don't think I clicked anything other than Esc, 3 and [.]

United KingdomaWay0fLife7 years ago

So that's that. I have invalidated the run and any future runs utilizing this glitch will not be accepted.

Remember this only affects the Amiga Version of the game when playing in Lite Mode.

United KingdomaWay0fLife7 years ago

So our good friend Frozenspade discovered a glitch recently in the Amiga version.

This glitch allows you to "wrong warp" at the Dread Map screen AFTER you have picked up one of the Map Pieces. Check it out:

Also he has posted a new Any% Lite WR time using this glitch. So what we need to discuss is does this record overwrite the current Lite WR or should a separate new category be created?

I personally am on the side of creating a new one. I feel the any% route (both categores) should be preserved as they are the "proper" fastest way to finish the game and provide the greatest challenge to a runner. The time saved using this glitch is too great and cutting out too much of the run, thereby making it easier and therefore belongs in its own category imo.

How do others feel about this? I have not accepted the new WR yet and would rather wait to get opinions from others before we continue.

United KingdomaWay0fLife7 years ago

Hey there. I have been wondering since the games release if anyone playing on console would like to submit a time, and now you have asked about it I will definitely add PS4 as a category.

Sublime WR on Gameover% by Lewd, can anyone take the record below 9:50????

So after being tipped off a while ago by Osmorosvo that the Amiga version of the game (playable through ScummVM) has a faster swamp coffin speed, I checked to see if anything else is quicker and how much so. Here are my findings:

During the Opening Cutscene (where you see Scabb Island)

Dos version you have to wait 8 seconds to skip this, on Amiga you can skip it instantly

Amiga saves 8 seconds

The Swamp Coffin ride

To row to the Shack on Dos takes 23 seconds, Amiga takes 12 seconds

To row from Shack to the Shore on Dos takes 19 seconds, Amiga takes 11 seconds

But don't forget you must ride the coffin 7 times during a run (3 times to shack, 4 times to shore). So we have to multiply it.

3 x 12 = 36 4 x 11 = 44 Amiga time = 80 seconds (1 min 20 secs)

3 x 23 = 69 4 x 19 = 76 Dos time = 145 seconds (2 mins 25 secs)

Amiga saves 1 minute 5 seconds overall

The Drinking Contest (from when Rum Rogers says "You drink first" to when you have control of Guybrush again)

Dos takes 29 seconds Amiga takes 12 seconds

Both of them drink from their mugs faster, Rum Rogers falls over faster and Guybrush is controllable almost as soon as he stands up.

Amiga saves 17 seconds

The fall into the Tunnels at Dinky (from when Guybrush's Rope breaks to the scene ending)

Dos takes 7 seconds Amiga takes 3 seconds

Guybrush's long fall is cut much shorter

Amiga saves 4 seconds

So in all playing the Amiga version saves you 1 Minute and 34 Seconds

You may be asking "well is anything slower on Amiga?". The only thing I noticed was the Cutscene inside LeChucks Fortress (after leaving Scabb for the first time) took a little bit longer to skip than on Dos, maybe costing 1 to 1.5 seconds.

So remapping the controls has been mentioned a few times in various threads, however I think its a good idea to have all the info here and not spread out.

For those who don't know, you can edit the games prefs.json file with Notepad. To quote Maerus from another thread:

"If you don't know where the prefs file is, if you go to your Users folder in your primary hard drive and then go into the administrator user folder it will be under AppData\Roaming\Terrible Toybox\Thimbleweed Park (You may need to show hidden files)"

Open the file with notepad and you can now add and edit what you need. For more options you can use, check out the following Post from Ron Gilbert himself:

https://blog.thimbleweedpark.com/options_options

To add a new option, copy and paste it into the file, don't worry too much about where you put it, it's not picky, Just make sure you save when done (and reboot your game if it was already running)

The most useful additions you can make (in regards to speed running) are:

rightClickSkipsDialog: 1 (Skips dialog with right mouse button, when used in combination with . key allows you to skip dialog very very fast)

keyOpen: "q" keyClose: "a" keyGiveTo: "z" keyPickup: "w" keyLookAt: "s" keyTalkTo: "x" keyPush: "e" keyPull: "d" keyUse: "c"

(Remaps the controls back to SCUMM era keyboard shortcuts; P is pick up and U is Use ETC. But this is a personal preference, you may be used to Thimbleweed Parks default controls)

keySelect1: "1" keySelect2: "2" keySelect3: "3" keySelect4: "4" keySelect5: "5"

(Besides Right skip dialog THIS is the most useful, it allows you to select dialog options with Keys 1 to 6 on keyboard. While still allowing you to use 1 to 5 to switch between characters when not in conversation trees)

That should be everything that matters, if I have forgot anything let me know.

I just read that you cannot get all 75 specs of dust in one casual play through, so playing on hard is required if that's true. Or apparently you can play casual mode twice to get them all.

Also read that the dust specs are random and sometimes appear again in locations you picked them up in. If this is true it makes routing very annoying.

I been thinking about this and I'm not sure. How far in the game do you have to go to get all the dust?

If you have to go practically near the end then you might as well finish, but if not and it adds several minutes to the time then I would say just stop when done. So it depends.

Also remind me, does your notebook/journal (for whichever character) show that you have collected all the specs? If it does then I feel it should be required to show that screen for proof (either during the run or after timer is stopped)

United KingdomaWay0fLife7 years ago

Nice work dude, great find with the Tron Machines. Regarding the kid, maybe you just skipped the text so fast it confused the game.

GL with WR attempts

United KingdomaWay0fLife7 years ago

That answers my question, thank you. :D

United KingdomaWay0fLife7 years ago

Hey everyone.

I have started running this game in Any% recently and I am a little confused about when exactly the timer should start.

As the rules state "The timer starts when the player did the first action with the character. The short cutscene at beginning and dialogue from Indiana Jones does not count. "

So as far as I understand, You skip all the cutscenes, and you also can skip the 2 lines of text Indy speaks when outside the Theater in New York.

However there is a lack of consistency in runs on the leaderboard. The 1st placed run has the runner start the timer as soon as all the graphics have faded in (and before the text appears). The 2nd runner starts the timer (apparently) after the cutscenes are skipped and the 4th placed runner starts when everything has been skipped (as per the rules)

So I am just asking for clarification on this before I start submitting runs. But I'd like to state I have no problem starting when the rules say you should, I actually think that's a good and fair place to begin a run.

United KingdomaWay0fLife7 years ago

Yes, ScummVM is allowed.

I would actually be surprised if anyone wasn't using it.

Ok, so I don't know if anyone else is aware of this, but if you Press Ctrl-W during gameplay it asks you "Are you sure you want to win? Y/N"

If you select Y (yes) the game skips to the end credits, with a screen that congratulates you (You win) and proclaims you scored 800 out of 800 points.

Now, what would stop anyone from submitting a run with this included and getting a 2 second time? Common sense would dictate that it is stupid and would not be allowed, but when there are no rules this can happen!

Can we please get some rules established? Something simple like what I said above, "Timer starts when the Lucasfilm Games logo is skipped and ends when the game fades to black after the final cut scene."

Thanks in advance Mods.
