Probably going to aim low and have vague, general goals instead of anything specific this time around:

  • Do more Geometry Dash speedruns
  • Participate in more speedrunning marathons
  • Finish the segmented run I'm working on
  • Make at least one video guide
  • Finish a TAS
  • Add a game to speedrun.com
  • Unrelated to speedrunning, but build more Geometry Dash levels and make more art

That's it really. The reason why these are so unspecific is because I'm working on multiple guides/TASes/segmented runs at once, so I want to dial back if that makes sense. If I can do just one of each? Great. If I can push myself and do more? Even better. See you in 2025!

I'm gonna take a page out of Merl_'s book and share some cool things I actually did this year.

  1. I got another TAS published! Grew up with this Flash game back then!
  2. I speedran Disney Planes (DS) at No Fish 2024. This game got me through a really hard time in early-2022 which is partially why I'm so fond of it. It's short, easy to pick up, comforting... I just really like the game!
  3. I speedran Geometry Dash at Lady Arcaders Out of Bounds Toronto! This was definitely the highlight of the year IMO. To my knowledge, this is the first time Geometry Dash has ever appeared in an in-person speedrunning marathon. I felt extremely proud to be representing our community! This was also my first ever in-person event and it was a fantastic experience! I didn't get a deathless run, but I got all the skips I was going for first try, and I managed to get through all of my commentary.
  4. I ran two games at Fastest Place on Earth 2, a Disney-game speedrunning charity event for PrismFL. The games I speedran were Disney Planes (DS) and Finding Nemo: The Continuing Adventures. If I remember correctly, I think someone dropped out of the event and they needed a replacement. I stepped in and submitted Finding Nemo. Honestly, it felt really good to lend a helping hand (even though it meant I had to practice two games instead of one lol :P). I eventually went back to improve the runs there. I managed to bring Planes down to 23:59, just barely making sub-24! It was really weird, too. I ended up doing some last-second improvisational routing in one of the levels and it worked, haha. I've been meaning to make an Any% guide for that game but ADHD. Hope I get to it sometime. I then got a 41:28 in Finding Nemo: The Continuing Adventures. That game is a lot more chaotic. RNG, cars, and don't even get me started on the dreadful air hockey game, ugh. But I've managed to pull through and got the time I wanted. The run could still be improved, but I'm happy with leaving it like this.
  5. I did more streaming! I started doing weekly streams on Friday. At first, they were just speedrunning attempts, but I think they evolved into "Casual Friday", where I just casually play through a game, saving speedrun streams for whenever I was free. Some games I did on casual Friday were Super Mario Galaxy 2, the Half-Life series, Yooka-Laylee, Iron Lung, and many more! One of the most interesting things I did on stream was beat Mario Party 9's Solo Mode blindfolded. It was a very unique experience and the fact that I was able to do it at all was really cool! Still working on the stream highlights for that one, but the playlist I linked has all the successful segments if you just wanna see that.
  6. I speedran Quaternion at Go Fish 2024. This is a game my friend made in 2017 and oh my god I love it. It's a masterpiece to me. I love the artstyle, I love the levels, I love the music. This game is indescribably good and I'd love to submit it to more marathons when I have the time. Speedrunning the game is a blast and every category is an interesting challenge (All Levels is my favourite). The game's dev was actually co-commentating the run with me, and we both had a great time! After the marathon, I spent a few streams improving some of the categories, and got 10:15 for Any%, 29:06 for All Levels, and 44:29 for 100%. Speaking of which, this game is actually getting a sequel! And I'm playtesting it! Huge!
  7. Unrelated to everything, but I discovered that I'm asexual and came out! This was truly a special moment for me because I finally figured out why I'm different than other people after a lifetime of not understanding myself. Now that I know I'm asexual, I don't feel like I have to conform to societal standards. I feel so free!
  8. I released three new Geometry Dash levels this year. Won't go too in-depth as the descriptions for the videos explain enough. Hackenbush is my favourite one I made this year and I'm glad I actually finished it. Definitely give that one a watch (just be aware of the content warnings in the description).
  9. I beat ICE Carbon Diablo X, my hardest Geometry Dash Demon and my 600th! Never in my life did I think I would ever beat this level lol. Maybe I'll get to 1 000?
  10. I applied for university! Good to see that I've finally mustered up the courage to give it another shot!
  11. Technically not something I've done, but a lot more people are submitting Geometry Dash to speedrunning marathons now and I'm all for it. It's my ultimate dream to get Geometry Dash into GDQ. Could you imagine how awesome that would be?

So yeah, that's been 2024 for me! A lot better than 2023! Still working on a lot of projects, praying that I finish them all. A big special thank you to all of my friends and family and the speedrunning community. Please have a wonderful holiday season everyone! See you all in 2025! <3 - Walgrey

I have to split my post into two because of text limit. Sorry about that!

Hi! So glad you mentioned me! Was thinking about this thread recently and wasn't sure whether I should reply here or make a new thread for it. I really like this thread! It's like a time capsule! Hopefully @gnrts makes another one in the coming weeks.

  1. Get back into speedrunning Skylanders: SWAP Force, learn all the new glitches, then board sweep. Sadly, this did not end up happening. I did try to run "No Double Sprocket" (the category I was running before Sprocket glitches were discovered) but I ended up getting too frustrated. A lot of runs were dying to wall-clips in Chapter 2, 4, and 7, over and over. The one run that did get past Chapter 7 immediately died in Chapter 8. I kinda feel bad about it, it kinda feels like I lost the spark I had for this game. It's not completely lost however. Some runners are thinking about adding a new sub-category, whether that be Inbounds, No Major Glitches, No Major Skips (we're not really sure yet), and I improved some categories on the Category Extensions board. Anyway, maybe I'll have better luck next time I get back.
  2. Get sub-2 hour RTA Skylanders: SWAP Force (All Story Levels, No Double Sprocket). Didn't happen, see above. Getting sub-2 is so difficult.
  3. Run new Geometry Dash categories, get first on all mobile Gauntlet categories. Geometry Dash Update 2.2 was really great! The early 2.2 Gauntlets had lots of skips in them, making them really fun to grind runs on (this one is one of my favourites). Tower and Platformer mode became very popular, and although I prefer Classic Mode speedruns, I'm very glad to see our community grow. As for me running mobile Gauntlets... I didn't get around to it. It didn't feel super important or demanding, so more important projects took place. Honestly, with the way things are going, I think the PC categories deserve more attention from me, heh.
  4. Finish the Ratatouille GBA TAS. Didn't finish it sadly, I worked on it once in May and then left it alone. My user file says I have 3/17 segments done, but it's actually more like 4/20 because of the cooking minigames. Doesn't help that I don't really know how to TAS those minigames either. Not giving up on it though.
  5. Add some more games to speedrun.com. I added 5 games this year, compared to 39 last year. Those five games are: Yars' Return, NHL 2K11, GRAVITY: DON'T LET GO, Geometry Dash: Nexitron, & 3Dash. Honestly, I think my "adding games to speedrun.com" phase is dying out. I guess I just don't see the point just adding a game if I'm not going to give it any real attention outside of one run. I don't really want a game on my profile if I don't really care about it, you know? There's so many speedruns I did for garbage games I don't care about (Anubis II, Non-Euclidean Chess, Girl Time just to name a few). I straight-up just unlinked my account from runs I don't think I'll ever come back to. There's still a lot of games I'm genuinely interested in speedrunning and adding to the site, but a girl can only take so much licensed shovelware slop. :P

Ok Walgrey, so you barely did anything on this list, what's the big idea? Well ok, lots of things happened this year. I had to move again in May, so a lot of my time was spent on finding a new place to live. I also discovered I have ADHD! Well that explains things, doesn't it? I just come up with a new, grandiose project, start working on it, burn out, rinse and repeat. On some days, I would even start crying because of this. Having undiagnosed ADHD for two decades is wild. Many people say that I should get my ADHD checked out. I tell them the same thing any other person with ADHD would say "eh, I'll get around to it" (in all seriousness, I will try to see my doctor as soon as the holiday season is over).

In other news, I've also been trying to take better care of my mental health, and I think things are actually getting better! So that's nice. I'm slowly making new friends here, I'm slowly connecting with more people, I'm slowly exploring the city. I don't know, I feel like I'm maturing? Feel more mindful and aware than before, and really happy, too! Things just feel... alright now, and I couldn't be happier about that. My transition has been going really nicely, too. I love looking at myself in the mirror now. Everything just feels right. <3

Here's mine!

Some of my biggest highlights this year:

  • Running Geometry Dash at Lady Arcaders Out of Bounds Toronto (GD's first in-person marathon run!)
  • Finding Nemo: The Continuing Adventures & Disney Planes (DS) at Fastest Place on Earth 2
  • Quaternion at Go Fish 2024

This is how you choose to behave? What a horrible thing to say. You could've at least worded it professionally, but you now just come across as whiny and petulant at best. I don't care what you think about site staff, no one deserves having their ear chewed off so aggressively. I'd be ashamed.

Currently mine is a 100% run on Skylanders: Giants on the hardest difficulty, Nightmare, clocking in at 8:43:29.

Six months before this run, I did 100% on Easy difficulty, which was the first 100% in the mainline console Skylanders series. I also was the first person to do it on Nightmare mode as well, and for someone who primarily runs SWAP Force and did this blind, I think both of these are great accomplishments. Both categories got hours shaved off, and it's good to see just how far the category came.

If we're going by technicalities though, then the longest run I've actually done is a speedrun of Crosswords DS in 13:09:33, although I don't really count it due to it being a segmented IGT run.

Games you don't follow appearing on the home page is intentional and has been for since as long as I can remember.

... Why are you making the Category Extensions board the base game?

Shouldn't it be the other way around?

@qeuqz Having the endscreen required is part of the rules. If you didn’t read them, that’s not our problem.
