how about you stop causing drama and just speedrun the game you want?

Unknown
GermanyVolpey8 years ago

there is no difference between each platform, if you want to use emulator, use snes9x v1.53

fastest version is japanese, it saves around .4secs due to text

we don't decide which category is fun. for example: we had NSW (Submap Warp) on the main leaderboards, it has 2 times and now we moved it to SMWMemes.

it's pretty obvious which categories will be popular.

GermanyVolpey8 years ago

what 9:39 are you talking about?

the only 9:39 i've seen so far was the theory TAS made by Seth.

also ACE completely ruins a speedrun tbh.

for example it's possible to get a 96 file by doing some ACE in YI2, then go to the yellow switch palace, execute the code and voila, you have done 96 exit.

is it fun? no.

does that rule make sense? no.

speedrunning is arbitrary, every category except any% is arbitrary. we make categories to make the game fun, not just to beat it as fast as possible. why would you do a 96 run that's 1:30hrs long, if you could beat the game in 1min? because you want to have fun.

but i still don't know which 9:39 you are referring to.

edit: now i know which ACE you are talking about. the one which completes every exit as soon as you enter the level. of course we could make a new category for that, but what is the point? is that really fun in your opinion? for me it has nothing to do with skill to execute some ACE as fast as possible and the game will finish itself, so nobody will run it. not a good run imo.

normally i'm a fan of materiel designs, and this has a lot of potential. i love you pac, but this is done really poorly here are some examples of things i dislike:

also when you click on a misc. category in a game, there is no indication on what category you clicked, except in the URL: http://i.volpey.com/1RcLN.png

and why is this on the default Arial font? http://i.volpey.com/IfxNA.png

like i said, it has potential, but it's done really poorly

too many levels, too many power ups, too many categories, yoshi / no yoshi, orb / cloud, etc

yea it's a pretty tough stage for beginner, idk if i will update my tutorial, but there are propably other tutorials for that stage.

GermanyVolpey9 years ago

ILs are pointless because there's too many categories.

GermanyVolpey9 years ago

everything Bramz said, All Castles, No Cape is already pretty arbitrary, this would be such a muss at some point.

also we have www.speedrun.com/smwmemes

GermanyVolpey9 years ago

because the submission page was spammed with easy ILs, ILs that would never happen in a real run like YI1 with cape, and nobody wanted to download them and retime them on the frame.

GermanyVolpey9 years ago

it's really pointless in this game and we discussed this for a long time. but SMW has a lot of categories which range from 1min to 1hr30mins, i am sure you'll find something you like.

GermanyVolpey9 years ago

ACE is banned in the whole game, except for 0 Exit, so it won't be a new category.

GermanyVolpey9 years ago

the point of ILs was actually just to share the best strat for each level, but because there are so many different categories and routes, there is literally no point in having them.

we used to seperate 11 Exit with cloud and 11 Exit NMG, but there is no point. it's just a faster strat which saves a significant amount of time, so if you don't want to learn it it's your fault.

yes, mario does swim upward when holding an object. so if you want to swim in SW2 you just hold forward to go fast and if you want to go down you just hold forward and down.
