Most games don’t require a timer to be shown on screen (it’s most common with PC games that use autosplitters). But as long as you have a video that’s in reasonable quality, even if it’s a webcam or a phone pointed at a TV, then you’re probably fine. Check the rules of the game(s) you’re running to make sure and/or contact the mods of the game(s) if you have further questions.

I also recommend joining the discord (you can find it likes at the series level) because that place is much more active than here and people will often get you faster answers to your questions over the forums.
2FA is a big inconvenience and I'd really prefer to avoid it. I can connect to my github account with push access on a 1K star repository without 2FA. I can connect to my gmail account without 2FA. If those don't think they should enforce 2FA on me I don't think SR should either.
Using Github and Gmail as examples of why 2FA is unnecessary kinda misses the point of 2FA. It also misses a key difference between the sites you mentioned and this one.

Rolling with your examples, a lot of major companies do require 2FA at an organizational level within Github because they want to protect their product’s code, but for singular, public repos outside an org, Github can’t mandate anything because it’s YOUR code. That’s the key part here - it’s your code, your data. Just like Gmail is your email and only your email. Getting either account compromised could be annoying for a lot of people, but neither of those sites can force you to protect YOUR data; it’s a personal choice. If it gets messed up, it’s your responsibility to clean it up or deal with the fallout.

This website is completely different. As a moderator, you’re touch OTHER people’s data. In other words, if your account get compromised it impacts data maintained by other people, not just you and that’s the key difference. If your Github account gets compromised and bad code is pushed or the repo is deleted, Github might help, but at the end of the day it’s on you to fix it. Github isn’t required to have robust ways to restore your stuff as a result of your own error, you take a personal responsibility for your own stuff. They just act as a place to hold it.

By saying that this site needs to get better backup procedures instead of making itself more secure is shifting the blame and the responsibility to the site rather than you as a user. You’re saying that you’d rather the site clean up your mess instead of forcing you to protect your account. Yes, better backup methods are needed to address one off cases like mod vandalism, but that is different than a large amount of super mods being hijacked. When your user account has the ability to touch and modify data that is not just your own, that’s when 2FA should be required. Your Gmail is your email, but this site, when you have moderator access, is much more than just your runs. That’s the key difference.

Yes, that appears to just be an N64 skin. I would recommend RetroSpy over NintendoSpy since zoggins is updating that one frequently whereas the original NintendoSpy seems to have slowed down.

Idk if that’s a bot or just another generic, “buy my game” advertiser, but the URL looks off. Although it looks like he has valid social links so ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I don’t understand your question. If it’s a multiplayer run for a co-op category on a game, you just type in the username of the second (or third or fourth) player in the designated field on the submission form.

Unless otherwise explicitly stated through a category or rules, all runs are single player only, so if you do a co-op run on a category where it isn’t explicitly meant for co-op, your run is invalid.

If you’re asking how to submit a run on behalf of another person - don’t. That person may not want their run posted and it’s not your place your add it for them. If that person ends up being okay with it being added, contact the mods of the game and let them add the run. Don’t try to submit someone else’s run yourself because it looks suspicious.

Thank god there’s finally an efficient use of filters on some of these boards. I like the idea.

There is no search functionality for forum posts. The closest thing you have right now is CTRL+F in your browser and search for words in the titles of the threads on a page.

The desire for a forum search option has been brought up before.

If you're not having fun, just stop. It's as simple as that. This is a hobby, it's supposed to be fun. Yes, it'll bring frustration and annoyance sometimes, but that's the nature of being competitive. But if you don't have the motivation, then it's not worth trying to push yourself. If you're still having fun but you just aren't motivated, well I can't really help you there since motivation isn't a magical thing, you have to find a way to motivate yourself.

I agree with Draz.

LBs are for a community/the masses, not for the individual. Nobody should get a category made just because they did a run. The 2-3 runner rule is so that community want can be gauged. If 2-3 people do a run, then it shows that it at least has some traction and should be considered for an LB because more than 1 person cared to do a run. Otherwise, people can do what Draz said - do 100 random, arbitrary runs and try to get an LB made for them.

It all goes back to the saying "you don't need an LB to speedrun." Speedrun any category that interests you, and if you want it to be on the LB, try to get others involved and show them how interesting a run it can be.

This exact same request has been brought up before, I'd have to go digging for the thread though. So you're not the only one asking for this.

One temporary solution I've seen boards do is "obsolete" % based versions of a category when a lower (or higher) % route is found. This prevents a single LB from holding multiple runs with different %s and eliminates this issue since the main LB will only ever have runs with the lowest (or highest) known %. An example of this is the Max% Child category on the OOT CE boards ( https://www.speedrun.com/ootextras#Max_Child ). The run aims to get as many items as possible as child Link and when another item is found to be possible, the existing boards is "archived" under Misc. and a new one is created for the new route.

While this isn't a great solution, it might provide at least a temporary workaround for the problem at hand. At least until the site redesign is done and new features can be added again.

People will usually talk about the stuff the disagree with rather than the stuff they agree with in these scenarios (I don’t mean that in a rude way btw, I would take it that most people agree with what you posted in the OP, hence why nobody openly disagreed with anything).

You can’t ban a trick because you don’t like it. The point of a Gold Crown run is to get the gold crown - which you do while using CoR Skip. Like it literally fits the definition of the category. Having a NMS version makes sense since the two runs are different. But if a glitch allows you to complete the run according to the rules of the category, you can’t just ban it.

Just so you’re aware, that device you listed does not support live streaming. That $60 device is made for saving recordings to the device or to a PC, it won’t work if you try to stream with it.

EDIT: new link provided to Reb in DMs, OP was updated.

TAS programs and ROM hacking programs are two very different things. If you’re looking to get into ROM hacking, I’d recommend you find one of the many ROM hacking sites out there and check out their guides for getting started. This site doesn’t have those kind of resources since it’s completely independent from speedrunning.

If you’re looking to get into TASing, I’d direct you to http://tasvideos.org for all your resources.

This is the third such thread you’ve started with this issue:

https://www.speedrun.com/Speedrunning/thread/ekg0l https://www.speedrun.com/Talk/thread/vf2js

All the previous times you’ve gotten answers and in the second one you stated yourself you solved the problem. Are you having the same issue again?

Additionally, we’ll need more information to help you. Are you using a capture card? Are you using HDMI, Composite, Component? Are you seeing a signal on the TV and not the computer? There could be many reasons for signal not showing up.

What Daj said, but that is an issue with any kind of election like this. I saw a ton of names I’ve never seen before come out of the woodwork to nominate themselves and inflate their friend’s numbers. It’s not really an issue as long as whoever ends up winning is trustworthy and all that, but it’s just a general pitfall of any elections. I think it was a good process overall, just a few kinks to work out for the next time.

I hope all the new mods do good by all the games, I’m excited to see what comes of it.

When did you submit the game request? A couple weeks ago there was a database restore so every action on the site between 3/30 and 4/3 was lost and will have to be re-done.
