Moderators should have social media links under their profile, you can contact them via any of those links. If they don't have any links, then the only way to contact them is via the forums in the game (mods should hopefully get notifications for new threads in their game(s)).

When you request a game, if it's accepted, you become the first moderator of the game.

You can't become a moderator without social media links on your profile so people contact you if needed.

Therefore, without any social media links, you can't become a moderator. If you can't become a moderator, then your game requests won't be accepted.

A timer doesn’t matter for doing runs* since it’s just a tool for the runner and viewers to know the pace.

*an exception for this is odd cases where a game might require to see one or uses an auto splitter (which requires LiveSplit). But most games won’t care one way or the other.

It’s been requested many times before, so it is on the Staff’s radar. Whether or not they plan on doing it or when they plan on doing it I do not know.

No you cannot currently change the order that runs display on your profile.

It doesn't matter what the timer shows in the video* as long as you submitted it with the correct time.

*Obviously this depends on the game's community since each game sets their own rules, but in most cases it won't matter.

Oh duh, I missed that in the original post lol. But tbh that probably is a cheaper way to go than buying a good quality SCART splitter. It should be decent quality too.

I’ve never needed a SCART splitter so off the top of my head I don’t know if a good one :/

But before I go looking for one, what CRT model do you use? Some professional models like PVMs or BVMs can do the splitting for you without the need to purchase additional hardware.

I don’t have any experience in making input displays, so I can’t provide much help there.

However, I wanted to say that would recommend using RetroSpy instead as zoggins maintains that a lot whereas NintendoSpy hasn’t been updated in 5 years https://github.com/zoggins/RetroSpy

I don’t know if NintendoSpy is just old and not working for you or if it’s an actual hardware implementation problem, but I wanted to toss that out there just in case.

Yes you should be aware of cheap splitters. The cheaper the splitter, the more degradation of video and audio you get which can result in delay on the various sources you’re splitting to. Powered splitters are a good choice to prevent this.

But that setup confuses me. Why are you splitting the SCART and the HDMI? Why are you essentially putting the game on two TVs/monitors? Are you playing off the CRT or the gaming monitor?

If you want to play the game off the CRT, then simply use the SCART splitter and plug the HDMI out of the OSSC into a capture card - there’s no need to split the HDMI.

If you want to play off the monitor, then simply plug the SCART directly into the OSSC and then split the HDMI coming out to the monitor and the capture card (some capture cards have the ability to do this for you) - there’s no need to split the SCART.

While there’s technically nothing wrong with splitting twice like that, as long as you don’t degrade the feed with the splits, I’ve never seen a use case for a setup like that where you essentially have 3 different displays for the game (CRT with SCART, monitor with HDMI and capture card with HDMI).

My setup is similar to yours if you want a reference of what someone else does. I use Component instead of SCART, but I take the Component out of the console and connect it into a powered splitter. From there, I send one split to a CRT, and the other split goes to a RetroTink-2x. The RetroTink-2x outputs HDMI which goes into my capture card.

I see zero difference in these videos. And I really don’t know what the point of this is. Who cares if we think the categories need to split, that’s up for the community of the game to decide. You should be asking them what they think, not us.

Not to mention that most of us here won’t even understand what’s going on in the video, especially if we’re not familiar with the runs/category in question.

Edit: Sometimes I hate the “Delete Post” button.

I’ll touch on GBA first since I think that’s more clear cut. I see no reason not to allow it, but I really don’t think we should be using VBA. A lot of GBA communities that I’ve seen have been saying that the most accurate emulation for GBA is using the mGBA core on Bizhawk with the GBA bios. An example of a community that does it (along with their reasoning) is Minish Cap: https://www.speedrun.com/tmc/thread/ev4wd/1#z44mc

I think that should be the way to go, especially since VBA has gotten a bad rap for being quite inaccurate (primarily for GB/GBC games). Maybe it’s gotten better in recent years, but I think the Pokémon community used to ban VBA outright for its issues.

Now onto DS...

First I think that it should probably be it’s own category since as we’ve now seen, it’s not a perfect comparison to console. I don’t see any reason to outright ban DS emulation, but allowing it opens up a choice (which I think you’ve already laid out).

If we allow it, a decision needs to be made about either standardizing the settings or using whatever settings you feel like. If we standardize the settings, it will probably result in Jel and Green’s runs being removed if they used non-standard settings. But it levels the playing field.

If we use open settings, that may allow us to create faster runs, but the problem I see becomes what kind of computers each person has. If we allow people to use whatever settings they want, what if someone else’s computer can’t run the emulator with those settings? It essentially means they could never compete at a high level and that is counterproductive to allowing emulator to boost competition in the first place. Maybe DS emulation isn’t that resource intensive even with the best settings so this may be a moot point, but I think it should be considered.

To summarize, I think we should allow GBA emulation, but only allow Bizhawk with mGBA. As for DS, I think we should separate it from console and we should standardize the settings we allow and make sure that the settings don’t require too many resources to run on weaker computers. It will invalidate a couple runs that may not have used the decided upon settings, but I think opening the settings leaves more questions than answers (but remember, this latter concern may not be an actual thing depending on how resource intensive DS emulation is).

How else do you expect to see a list of games without going to the Games page? You’ll have to go there to do what HDK suggested.

It doesn’t freeze my browser but it can take a few seconds to finish losing.

Avidemux 2.5 (I think, I don’t remember if newer versions do frames) or Sony Vegas (really any good quality video editor will do it).

After that’s it’s simple math to go from frames to seconds based on your video’s FPS.
