I would like to point out that depending on your definition of “good”, LiveSplit is your only option. Other timers will work, WSplit for example, but their level of customization is extremely low. There’s nothing out there that comes close to LiveSplit in terms of functionality and customization.

If you want something simple and easy that’ll keep time, then there’s maybe a couple options out there for you, but there won’t be much more than that.

I mean that has nothing to do with Speedrunning, it looks like those Mario pictures were created in 2008 by a fan of the game to document what each level looks like. It looks like it’s a part of a larger project to document maps for NES games in high quality. I’m not sure anyone will know the exact process they did outside of the people involved in the project, but it could of been done by editing together different photos of the level and then adding the sprites on top. Or maybe it was done by examining the assets of the actual game itself.

It’s not impossible to do for any game, you would just need a lot of screenshots and some photo editing software to create something like that at the most basic level.

Removing parts of the game from timing or creating categories just to remove RNG just doesn’t make sense to me. Nobody likes RNG, but if it’s a part of the game then there’s nothing you can do aside from learn to manipulate it if possible or try for the best luck. I’m all for creating arbitrary categories when there’s a solid goal in mind, but the category you’ve described is basically “complete 80% of the game then just stop and say you beat it” and that’s what doesn’t make sense to me.

If the rest of the game operates on a set cycle, then without the bosses you’ll essentially get runs that will be identical as long as the rest of the movement in the level is the same. What you’ve described is essential ILs for the different levels, but even then, arbitrarily stopping the time before a part of the game - especially one that indicates an end of a level - is just...weird.

You don’t stream to this site, this site is just a hub for hosting leaderboards. You steam to sites like Twitch, Mixer, YouTube, etc. or any site that has broadcasting capabilities. All of those sites have in depth tutorials on how to stream to them.

Unless the emulator has a setting to always be in focus (which seems unlikely to me) then no, this can’t be fixed. This is just how computers work. When you have multiple applications open, the one “in focus” - the one you have clicked on - is the one that your key presses or mouse scrolls affect.

It’s like if you have two web browsers open, scrolling the mouse wheel only moves one of the windows, the other one stays unaffected. You can research if the emulator has a setting to always be in focus or if it has a way to respond to global hotkeys of some kind, but you might be better off viewing your notes on say your mobile phone. That way you don’t have to worry about taking the focus away from the emulator.

I'm not sure about what game you're playing, but artificially speeding up the game will almost always be banned. You can't just artificially speed up a game to reduce lag, that won't create an even playing field for all the runners unless everyone is doing the same thing. You would need to contact the community and/or the mods of the game in question to get a more definitive answer on the legality of something like that.

Unfortunately, the downside with running PC games (or games that run in browsers) is that if your computer can't handle everything running at once, then it sounds like it's time for a computer upgrade. Alternatively, you could try to lower your OBS settings and use a lower resolution or a lower bitrate to see if that frees up resources for your computer to hopefully prevent the game from lagging.

Are you talking about a load remover/autosplitter? If so, you'll need to check with the Minecraft community for the game you're running and see if they have one. I checked a few of the games in the series and it looks like some of them have one, but idk which game you're running exactly. If you need help setting it up, anyone in the community should be able to assist you with it.

Point a camera at it - either your phone camera or a webcam. Those are your only options, there are no capture cards for the Switch when it's not docked.

No. Nobody here is going to talk to moderators on your behalf. You have 3 options right now:

  1. Wait 7 days and send any active mods a PM on the site.
  2. Post in the forums of the game about the category you want created. I even linked the forums up above, I don’t know how to make this option any clearer.
  3. Continue running the game without the category created on the LBs.

Mods also have social media links on their profiles for contact methods, but I would not suggest spamming them there or even messaging them there about this as category creation is best handled in the game’s forums so the wider community can comment on it.

You go to the LB for the game and you can find the mods on the left hand side under the “Moderated By” header.

Alternatively, you can post in the forums for the game asking for a category to be created. The mods should see it and you can open a dialogue with them, and the community, that way.

You’re probably best off running the game through XP in Virtual Box (or whatever you want to use to host VMs) and just capturing that in something more modern like OBS. I wouldn’t even bother trying to find software that’s going to be compatible with XP.

Not only did they post this same issue last week, they said they figured out their issue and got it all fixed. Also, you have a run from 4/21/2020 of a game played on an NES and it has the game audio in it perfectly fine.

Did you fix your issue then have it stop working again? What did you change in your OBS settings over the last two days since you had the audio working?

It may be easy to download, but that still doesn’t fix the main issue that after 3 months the video can (and probably will) be deleted from the site.

  1. Buy a capture card and record your runs on a PC with something like OBS. Capture cards can be a little pricy depending on what brand you buy, but this method will be the one that gives you the most customization over your layout and the investment is worth it if you want to do this hobby long term.

  2. Use the PS4’s built in recoding feature to capture the game. The default recording length is 15 minutes but it can increased to an hour. Not ideal for runs longer than something in that range.

  3. Use the Twitch app to stream directly from the PS4. From there you can download the broadcasts and upload them to YouTube or another site.

I would say yes, if the site chosen doesn’t provide an easy way to verify the authenticity of the run, then that’s grounds for rejection. As a side note, I’m pretty sure Streamable removes recordings after a while too so it’s not even that reliable of a hosting site.
