No worries, kinda makes sense as an alt category since that optimises for game time.

Hey, GG on your run! Unfortunately the duel slowdown isn't an emulator bug, it happens on console too. The manual tries to play it off as the boss casting some kind of evil slowdown spell. It seems to mainly happen when using arrows heaps, so I've had some luck avoiding it by slowing down or swording instead.

For the other glitch, I'm pretty sure you need text in both Amon and Pharazon to trigger that path from memory. That might be causing the issue as you need the text from two places.

From what I've seen, Emulicious is the best to use, followed by Fusion. Bizhawk might be able to work if you bind a reset button in the controller config menu. Just be sure to capture the whole window if using bizhawk since it has TAS tools.

Yeah it does

Awesome find. I've been messing around with this in a TAS setting and have been able to skip every level apart from the round 2 levels (I suspect 2-3 is possible but yet to confirm). I thought 2-1 might have been possible but I can't grab the potion when dying since you need to duck to get it inside the wall.

I made this demo of what a theoretical glitchless run could look like in a TAS setting. Route is a tad different to RTA at the start with the money route and sword choice. Definitely some more time to save here, but this could be a useful resource

Saves 367 frames (6.12 seconds) over current RTA WR. Level 1 - 23 frames Level 2 - 40 frames Level 3 - 0 frames Level 4 - 0 frames Level 5 - 232 frames Level 6 - 72 frames

After some careful timing it's most likely a 9.88. The 30fps makes it really difficult but it's definitely a 9.86 or a 9.88 and it's not a 9.84. I'd recommend trying it again now that you have your OBS working. Another thing you can do is go to file > movie > record in bizhawk. This will record all of your button presses without being resource intensive on your computer. It's a good idea so that you can analyze your runs precisely.

South Australia, AustraliaThe8bitbeast5 years ago

If you do the 9.88 route, then pause and unpause frame perfectly either on the frame you let go of right or the frame after, you'll get a 9.84. If you're slow by a frame you get a 9.86

Update: You can do the pause a bit earlier. Anywhere from about halfway through holding right up until the frame you let go of right.

Double update: I made a video tutorial for this

We need to make sure people are running at PAL speeds (50 frames per second). It looks like all 3 times on the leaderboards are running on NTSC. This is technically invalid since the game only came out in Europe which is PAL. You can change to PAL really easily in emulator settings and you can check if a run ran on PAL by timing some of the credits sequence. For example I timed from the zool characters appearing to the end of the bit in the credits where it says Art: Michael Hirst and had these times:

1st: 45.73 2nd: 45.52 3rd: 45.61 TAS: 54.54

As you can see above, since the TAS uses the correct region of PAL, it runs 20% slower. Any slight variance there is just due to my rough timings.

I'd recommend correctly relabelling all 3 runs regions to be NTSC and putting them in a misc category of any% NTSC, then wiping the true any% leaderboards and adding the rule of PAL.

Bizhawk can be set to PAL through SMS > Display Type. Fusion can be set to PAL by setting country to EUR in options.

Just realised I can't add to resources, but I'll drop the patch in the Discord.

South Australia, AustraliaThe8bitbeast5 years ago

You can make a hack where Bridge 2 doesn't autoscroll by changing the ROM address at 156A3 to 04 (with a hex editor). I'll also put an ips patch in resources.

This could be interesting as a misc category or something? Since it'd be way more enjoyable to run. I'd be interested to hear what everyone thinks

A good place might be the discord (linked on the left of this page). We've organised a few marathons through there before

G'day FireNinja,

The main thing with TTC after CC is to do with feather count. CC first allows you to pick up a few feathers before getting into TTC. You should learn red feathers through FFM since talking to bottles takes so long on xbox, but this means that you dont get the 25 feather refill. You should be fine to do TTC first without losing heaps of time, you might just need to find some extra feathers to grab.

Someone that knows more about xbox than me, feel free to correct me on any of this.

Also if you're interested, there's a BK discord here: https://discord.gg/f779bB

yeah, just be sure to tick the emulator box when submitting a run

First you'll need to choose if you want to run xbox or N64. I'd personally recommend xbox since it's faster and it doesn't use some of the really hard tricks like TTC early and DoG skip, also xbox any% is newer so you could potentially break new ground with routing and stuff which is really fun.

If you choose xbox, just watch the world record video and use that route to start with. It does the FP early clip twice (the beakbomb into the slope). One is for entering Frezeezy peak, the other is for skipping the 450 note door, but you can just get the blue cauldron after RBB if you want, then you only have to do that clip once since you dont need to clip past the 450 door (it costs about 10 seconds to get the blue cauldron instead).

If you choose N64 then use the route from the WR vid but swap out PAL RBA for NTSC RBA (NTSC RBA: ). Also Treasure Trove Cove early is harder on NTSC so you might want to avoid it. My run does it but stivitybobo doesn't so once you make that choice, use whatever video suits it.

We don't have an up to date full game tutorial for any% but here's a few specific trick tutorials: Both xbox and N64 tricks: FP Early (and 450 skip): 640 skip (from my any% tutorial):

xbox tricks: Cauldron RBA:

N64 Tricks: DoG skip (this video is PAL but NTSC is similar): TTC Early: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1CRK4FfKaNX37-GN0zbR1oOx9BgeO8y2jBPcu5a0qydc/edit?usp=sharing

Good luck learning the run!

Personally I'd like to see both all chaos emeralds and max special bonus added if possible. I think there's been 3 runs of max special bonus and several of all emeralds that we could add.

Since they use Bizhawk for TASing it should be fairly accurate. They changed the SMS core from 1.11.9 onwards. so <=1.11.8 and >=1.11.9 should be considered different emulators (although I've noticed more glitches on the later ones). About the single segment thing, rerecords is a good way to check but in the lua console: movie.setrerecordcount(0) sets it back to 0 so it's possible to cheat it. That being said, its possible to cheat in almost every way of verification so I wouldn't worry too much

South Australia, AustraliaThe8bitbeast8 years ago

That looks like an accurate emulator so it should be fine. Different consoles and emus seem to give different maps sometimes so that shouldn't be an issue.
