Did not that see, lol. Since, Nate isn't a mod anymore I will fix the wording.

Agreed, Lazarus_DS. It's been taken care of for now. I don't think top 10 is going to work out the way SRC does times; it might have to be a "Times under x" scenario in the near future.

Hey everyone,

Now that a lot of top runners got back from AGDQ I talked to them about the best to way to handle the ms situation. They, I and from what I saw in the other thread we will be having it so top 10 times will be counted with ms and the rest will not.

This should be a good compromise between the two parties which both have valid points.

So if you are not submitting a top 10 time please don't bother adding your ms we will edit them out.

That should do it for now I am going to be working on that and cleaning this board up.

Thanks

Already on it. Was talking with other top runners that are back from AGDQ about the board and also with what I see in here... top 10 with ms is where we are heading and the rest will be as is. I feel this is a good compromise for both sides and will also reduce the workload on the mod staff not having to frame count every persons run.

No matter which way we go some people will still be unhappy, but unfortunately we don't always get what we want.

So the board should be changed in just a few mins.

I know it's a pain, Nerdy, but k0zzx does bring up good points about silent videos. As sad as it sounds people do cheat runs (way less popular then this like Roger Rabbit no less) and for NES games especially with FCEUX and Bizhawk it's super simple to do. By all means you can have whatever audio playing in the background it's no big deal to any of us as long as the game audio is present with it.

Sorry that it inconvenienced you, but I know you can get a better time soon!

California, USASubStylee6 years ago

So this is going to be a hot topic, but for the time being Strider will stay off of ms. As noted the times are not competitive and other leaderboards with big runs and I will list examples don't do ms. Now some do have ms, but that's usually for when frames count for WR and top spots (ie top 5 or so). When times get tighter and if it ends up being needed we can convert it back to ms it's not that hard.

On that note though, if and when we go back to ms, some of you need to do your due diligence and make our lives easier and accurately note your ms with your video editing programs. I can easily frame count my stuff, but I don't have your vods on my PC, so it becomes a huge pain on my end and for the other mods to do yours.

One more thing we are all about hearing opinions and ideas, but do please bring them up in a polite and clear way with good examples if possible. Snarky, passive aggressive and overall hostile tones is not going to help your cause at all.

I guess that's it for now so by all means keep on voicing concerns or suggestions in a civil manner and I plus the other mods will take stuff into consideration. Thanks!

Examples of LB's with no or little ms runs.

We can drop the ms I have no problem with that. Makes my life easier.

California, USASubStylee6 years ago

Naw, Pup if you get a 5:52.00 for example then that's fine because that is the time you hypothetically got. If you did a run without the milliseconds though and it just shows 5:52 on your timer then we will add .999 to the time unless I or one of the mods is feeling nice and retimes the run, but with how many I myself have verified the last day or so that won't be happening anytime soon, lol.

(Edit: For an example you can look at Chelney's time on the board. He has a 4:33.00, but it only shows 4:33 because of the way the Speedrun boards work.)

California, USASubStylee6 years ago

I'd like to add that any runs that have been verified before Nate's post are grandfathered in so there is no need to resubmit them to adhere to the rules posted above. Any new runs however will need to follow them.

Hey guys!

It's awesome to see all the new people getting into speedrunning and participating in yet again the hot meme speedgame of 2015 and now 2018.

So, no one has said anything, but I just wanted to give a heads up between the huge influx of runs and the site being wonky because of AGDQ. Runs are being verified slower than normal. So don't stress if your run hasn't been verified yet, Nate or I will get to them sooner or later!

Thanks for understanding and other than that keep on Striding.

So after playing with it you can't do the double ko trick on the 2nd boss for this glitch. For whatever reason being stuck at the beginning of Red Dragon is why it works. Also Tarbash did some timing and it seems to be only about 1-2 secs faster than the old route. Still it's WAY easier to do so no reason not to.

(Note: With the new way to kill the final boss it saves about another 5+ secs so yeah the final part and game overall is super free to run now.)

Yeah that's very new and bypasses two very hard frame perfect tricks so that'll make the run and rankings interesting. Good find, man!

California, USASubStylee6 years ago

There is one for the 2014 runners, Nate, but none for NES or the others as far as I can tell. If you want make one I'll join it.

Hey, Speedrun.com

RGLTV on twitch is having a one night only tournament for the any% category of Strider NES on Nov 11th. If you got a time or have been looking for a run to learn this is a good time as it's an easy one.

Sign up here!

That sounds good to me, Guido. If you have a dedicated SNES page no need for the SNES category on here. Also you can stay as a mod I have no problem with that. In fact I was surprised to see I was a mod for this game all of a sudden. I don't know what happened to Rantron since he's the mod for almost every retro game that exists, haha.

Just piggybacking on this conversation. I feel msecs should be opened up for the runs since once the route gets heavily optimized it's going to come down to frames in the end.

Hey there,

So I've been thinking about this for a bit and wanted peoples feedback on it. I've never liked the way time was started in this game and since the game is pretty dead atm, I was looking into if people where open to a new way to start time.

I personally think starting the timer when you hit start on the title screen makes the most sense. If someone has any other ideas about a good place to start time toss it out there and we can talk about it.

If there is a consensus on a new start time I will slowly work on re-timing runs so they are accurate and up to date on that front. Anyways let me know.

I have a question. Why is it the MMX community cannot/won't mirror their boards with SR when other boards like Deer Tier and many others do? Just glancing over SM any% with over 500 submissions it's almost completely identical; especially the top 5-10 which is what the majority of people are going to be checking out anyways. No MMX game comes even close to that many submissions except for x1 100% which does have 200+ runs. It shouldn't be an issue to get a 1:1 rankings list between the two sites.

Just as a side note I see someone added my bad MMX6 run that's almost two years old to MMLB. All it takes is non lazy mods to keep things up to date.

If we are talking fast any% glitchy runs. No conversation is complete without mentioning Strider (NES).

TASing isn't Speedrunning. You obviously have no idea on what you are talking about and the communities at large don't need some nobody like you trying to bridge them together. It's really simple play by the rules of the established community (In this case the NES one that has been around for what 12+ years?) or don't. It's not hard to ask people in the scene before you what the rules are.

This guy wasn't even trying to do a TAS run. He used a save state (And edited it out of his runs) to give him perfect RNG seed manipulation so he can easily go for the oldest unbeaten NES record. It's a scummy move, one that cannot be done on a NES console and should never be allowed. Your "devils advocate" argument is weak. If you want to TAS go to the tasvideos site you linked; they would love to have more people that are into that stuff.

(Edit: On second thought please don't go to tasvideos. I would hate for them to subjected to an unbearable twat like yourself.)
