As of now there are plenty of English runners on the any% board. We plan to split the categories if a new skip is found in palace of shadows. This would further separate English and Japanese as the latter would be able to skip four entire chapters due to teleporter room early. For the moment, you can still post times to the any% board no matter which release of the game you're playing. You need to understand, however, that while the fastest times are going to be set using the Japanese version, English is capable of being brought down to a 5:35:xx or lower.

We've been considering splitting the Any% category into Japanese and English categories. I can't say for certain if it's going to happen or not. In the meantime you can still post English Any% runs to the leaderboards. If the categories do get split, we're almost certainly going to move all of the English runs done previously to their own board.

Hope I helped.

A Japanese copy of TTYD is required to play the Japanese version, assuming you'll be posting to the leaderboards. If you want to get one, this guy on eBay tends to sell for pretty cheap:

If you're not looking to post runs to the leaderboards, you can play the Japanese version on your wii by installing Nintendont and downloading a Japanese ISO file. Again, runs done on Nintendont cannot be submitted to the leaderboards for any category.

Hope I helped.

You kind of just need to get a feel for the timing. A slightly easier way to learn the timing might be to perform flurrie orientation lock glitches with X+A presses. If you press X four frames before you press A, Mario's facing direction gets locked. This can help you determine how long four frames is and all you'll need to do is apply it to goombella buffer.

If it helps, four frames is 1/15th of a second.
