Also if you look in this forum post alone https://www.speedrun.com/user/ILoveSMB claims that emulated runs are easy to detect, and the fact that you can also cheat on a console just as easily. And he, similar to me, points out the fact that no video runs are far easier faked.
@MaxDragonSoul where do you stand?
Also, if IGT is being used soon, which I just heard might be a possibility, the emulators would be fully consistent with wii+wii u and there should be no issue allowing them.
@Frikkingfriks14 If IGT is allowed, then dolphin would ALSO be consistent along with the consoles. And while emus weren't allowed up until now, i don't see why you feel the need to stay consistent to the past, especially when so many players could end up joining if the emulators were allowed, and there is literally no reason other than "this game is general has never allowed emulator". Which i don't really see as a valid point.
Just thought I'd make a new forum restating some very good claims I saw for why emulators should be allowed (since the other forum posts have a lot of replies)
Regardless what's banned and what's not, at least require videos for the runs or some kind of proof like a photo of the end of every race or a screenshot of the splits. There's no way on earth someone can say they can't take a picture. I'm 100% confident some of these runs without video are simply fake times. Allowing emulators would let recording be easy for everyone. WiiU has better loads than Wii. Wii hard drive has faster loads than anything else. So allowing both of these and not allowing Dolphin based on load is just not reasonable. It's not any harder to fake a run on console if you really want to. It's also much easier to use cheats on homebrew, since Dolphin rejects master codes (like the item wheel, always have item, etc). I just believe in people being allowed to do runs on emulators to help expand the community, and plenty of other games like mario party ones and mario 64 allow emulation and thrive even more because of it. I think we could just make a sub category for emulators if allowing them against Wii runs is really that big of an issue, even though that is a bit hypocritical as Wii Us are allowed. I simply feel that emulation could really help this game grow as I personally know 10 or so people who want to run this game but sold there Wii a couple years back and just play it on an emulator.
honesly, i can see your point now, but at least put a sticky with a link to the other website for newcomers like me.
@Frikkinfriks14 I'm not saying that you need to transfer all the times, not even the WRs, I just feel like we could start an new time trial leaderboard on here, which now that I'm tyiping is starting to make less sense.
And also as @ILOVESMB stated Regardless what's banned and what's not, at least require videos for the runs or some kind of proof like a photo of the end of every race or a screenshot of the splits. There's no way on earth someone can say they can't take a picture. I'm 100% confident some of these runs without video are simply fake times. @Frikkinfriks14 I'm not saying Wii U saves as much time as an emulator, and I'm also not saying that it is less reliable, I'm just saying at the end of the day, it does have faster load times then a Wii. I don't think the official console statement is really that important as long as they are consistent, and I'm not saying that dolphin should be put in the same category as official consoles. I just believe in people being allowed to do runs on emulators to help expand the community, and plenty of other games like mario party ones and mario 64 allow emulation and thrive even more because of it. As for the no-video runs, i'm not saying that they were WR or unbelievable, i'm just making a point against people who say dolphin allows for easy faked runs because it is much easier to fake runs with no evidence(even though the non-recorded runs are probably real). Some people just care about their ranking on the leaderboard and just because a fake run isn't WR doesn't mean it should be allowed. I understand what you are saying but in mentioning "The load time difference isn't even that much between Wii and Wii U (Around 2 seconds per 4 tracks if I remember correctly)" you proved a point that Wii Us already give an advantage, and might cause an actual difference in the future between WR and non-WR. I simply feel that emulation could really help this game grow as I personally know 10 or so people who want to run this game but sold there Wii a couple years back and just play it on an emulator.
It's not like all runs HAVE to be here, I think it would be cool to be able to submit them here so you don't have to check multiple websites for one game you speedrun. WRs could still be tracked on that website but I feel having a leaderboard on this website would be really good not only for convenience but also expanding the playerbase.
@Frikkinfriks14 that's why I suggested it to be under ILs or a category extension or something. I don't see why we couldn't transfer it. At first, it would be a bit of an inconvenience, but once people start transferring runs, I think it would be far more convenient.
Before this becomes an issue, how will this community stand on the topic of emulation? As you can see by the channel behind this video: , the switch emulators are getting closer every day to being able to run odyssey. Will we flat out ban emulation, make a separate category, or allow it like other communities? I know this currently isn't a big issue, but I thought it would be good to discuss it before it became a big issue.
