Yeah, the wording was wrong, but I can't edit it. Ok, I tested what you said, but it made no difference. So you do not have the problem of saving game time for no reason if you save and load while walking forwards?
Ok:
I use the DX component that is linked in this article btw: https://www.speedrun.com/dx/guide/1s0i2
You need to hit the rope more in the middle. If you look at my run, the spot where I touch the rope is almost perfect.
you need to wait a little bit after pressing left before pressing right but anyway, it's not a simple jump, so don't expect to master it after a few hours
The time is 4:54.28, not 4:54.77. The 1-2 clip has never been done in a way that saves the framerule. 4-2 is actually 2 framerules faster than the WR. The very fastest framerule doesn't really seem humanly possible. The flagpole glitch setup is too slow to save the framerule in 8-1 (fast acceleration may also be required, idk). The 8-2 framerule is just very tight and requires perfect play at the fast acceleration, the jump over the pipe in the middle, instant bullet bill shot and hitting it as early as possible. Probably not humanly possible. 8-4 saves time at the start of every (non-water) room and in the turnaround by fast acceleration (the 2 small jumps backwards) and general flawless play.
No, I just have to insert 1 frame before every test to cycle through the boards. I found the same board and it always solves in 1.775 seconds with A held down. I don't know what you mean by starting boards faster. When I try to mash or delay the A input, it's always slower or the same.
Xaephod's run is on VBA, which everyone says is really bad, so I tried to get the same pattern on emulator and took the framecount from there (and my run is timed by framecount too). Testing all possible 256 boards on the lowest difficulty, I thought my PB's board + holding right and A while it loads is the fastest simple strat (there are a few that are faster but require manual inputs), but Tron played on a higher difficulty, which I didn't test. I'll try to replicate Tron's board on emulator tomorrow.

In Windows you can activate mouse keys to make the Numpad keys control the mouse. I used 5 and + on the Numpad to send mouse clicks instead of the actual mouse.
I could add a category with user-defined subcategories. Then you can submit literally anything.
I don't think the video was ever shared online. As far as I know it was just the first time submitted to Twin Galaxies, most likely by sending in a VHS or DVD.

I should have clarified any% runs. This is 4:59.80 for example: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/860650141/SMB-1229.fm2 All my other any% pbs have fm2s linked in the youtube description too.
