There is some sparse information in the "Guides" section: https://www.speedrun.com/Gothic/guides
Do you have a specific category in mind? My old 16:28 "no OoB" run has video annotations that describe the tricks: Other than that there isn't really a guide. I suggest asking directly about stuff you don't understand or have trouble with.
All emulators that are ok here, should be ok in the tournament too. It's 1vs1 runs and the winner gets to the next round.
I submitted it anyway for you, since a framecounted time is better in this category.

"I've beat my current PB like 3 times in 18 days, none of them verified yet. Please verify " There is no run older than 7 days in the verification queue (except for one special case). If you delete your runs, they can't be verified.
The Japanese Peercast community has an Any% Single Elimination tournament every year during the summer. This tournament has been happening for 10 years and this is the first time runners outside Japan enter.

Note that the timing rules are different from this leaderboard:
- Timing starts on pressing Start on the titlescreen.
- Timing ends when Peach's finishing speech has finished.
- Highscore is used as a tiebreaker at second ties.
You also need to include a clock on your layout - such as this one: http://download.cnet.com/Big-Free-Clock/3000-2350_4-10774287.html
Timezone Conversions: Universal Coordinated Time, UTC 2017-8-5 at 11:00 Eastern Time, ET 2017-8-5 at 07:00 Pacific Time, PT 2017-8-5 at 04:00 Japan Standard Time, JST 2017-8-5 at 20:00
Why can you use stage selection in one run and not the other? Because you only use it after you have already unlocked it. You can't just do stage select to world 8 and submit that as any%, because you're starting from an already altered gamestate without including it in your timing - not so in Both Quests.
And regarding a general NES/SNES subcategory tab: That would literally double the number of categories and most SNES ones would stay empty or only have very bad runs, because the version is really unpopular. Any% SNES has 1/9 the runs of Any% NES. Now divide the average number of players per category in this game by 9 and you see the problem.
For SMB1 there is no difference between "regular" and "Rev A" (or "1.0" and "1.1"). You do want the Japanese version however, because the flagpole sometimes drop you off faster.
I'm not going to defend the Roger Rabbit runner, but I do feel there should be some global rules page. People submit runs with Turbo or left+right or runs on outdated emulators like zsnes all the time. And I don't really blame them, because the only way to find out these things are wrong is to already be really involved in the community or find some old SDA rules pages that don't even apply 100% to speedrun.com or you are lucky and the moderator bothers to put all this stuff that should be global in every category's ruleset.
The BBG doesn't save time, because the SNES version doesn't trigger the level change early like the NES version does. At best you will softlock walking into the block or you will clip through the block and still walk to the castle.
I think the most logical answer would be that it's not allowed since you would get an advantage over an actual SMAS+SMW cartridge.
